    That is a very nice gold crown preparation. I was an assistant professor in fixed prosthodontics at USC, and you pretty much matched our ideal standard. Your tooth reduction was conservative, and your actual walls fairly parallel. The only thing I used to do differently was to reduce all four axial walls before reducing the occlusal surfaces. I found it easier to avoid nicking the adjacent tooth during occlusal reduction. Nice work!👍👍👍

    Dear doc thanks for taking out time to make this video on very basic steps of tooth preparation for the benefit of those at college and just out of it to be able to grasp the essentials, especially for those who get to see mostly the back of the head of the peers standing ahead of them . It's a real refresher for the others .

    how was the finishing and polishing done ?

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  Před 8 lety +7

      We work carefully on the sharp lines, line angles, point angles, and transitional lines.
      In order for you to have a well-finished and -polished preparation, you have to pay attention to both the parts you finish and round, and to the instruments you use to do so.
      Follow a systematic approach in this step (as with all the other steps) to make sure you round and finish every single part of your preparation not missing a sharp line or point.
      You can do this using your regular blue-color-coded diamond stone with a slower speed (just a lighter touch on the foot controller). There are some specific polishing kits for finishing and polishing your preparation. Check your local dental suppliers for them.

    • @omaromar11234
      @omaromar11234 Před 8 lety +7

      chamfer; it provides appropriate thickness for metal (0.3 to 0.5ml), it's easy to make and it's more conservative than shoulder... shoulder is used with ceramic restoration as it provides thicker finish line and thus more space for porcelain ( porcelain is brittle so requires thicker section(~ 1ml) to withstand forces.

      Use half of stone (0.5mm) as thickness of finish line and leave at least 1mm of tooth structure unprepared from the gingival border.

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  Před 7 lety +1

      In the buccal (MCR) half of the preparation, you can use flat end tapered stone with a tip diameter (1.0-1.2 mm ) . And for the lingual (full metal) part, you can use tapered stone with round tip and tip diameter ( 0.6-1.0 mm ). You can measure the tip diameter using any measuring devices ( such as a digital caliper ). When using a flat tip stone you can prepare the finish line with the full thickness of the diamond tip, therefore, if you use stone with a tip 1,0 mm in diameter, you can accurately obtain 1,0 mm finishline thickness. On the other hand, if you use a rounded tip stone, you can only prepare the finishline with half the diameter of the tip, thereby, if you want to obtain a finishline (Chamfer) of 0.5 mm, you should use diamond stone with a total diameter of 1,0 mm.
      Regarding the distance between the finishline and the gingival margin , you should leave (0.5 - 1,0 mm) coronal to the gingival margin according to the situation. Ofcourse , some situations nessissitate to go below the gingival margin (sub-gingival preparation). you can review this information in any text book.
