      I change diamond burs after 3-5 preps. If cutting dry, even more often. The handpeiece should be lubricated daily. and when you turn the bur with your fingers it should move freely with no resistance. Other than that, keep experimenting to find your zone...

    Hey.. Did you use 847 KR supercoarse or fine grit??

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  Před 3 lety

      847KR-016 is considered a medium grit and has 100 micron diamond particles, and has no color ring on the bur shank. The 6847KR-016 is a coarse grit and has 125 micron diamond particles and has a green ring around the shank. The 5847KR-016 is an extra-coarse grit and has a black ring around the shank. The finishing diamond in this shape (the *847KR* shape) is the 8847KR-016, with a red ring on the shank with 30 micron particles - a fine grit. I use the 847KR followed by the 8847KR, however it works equally well to use the coarse 6847KR instead of the 847KR.

    Why did you not use end cutting bur, instead using it at the end?
    I found that, when I use end cutting bur while doing finishing line on buccal surface, my preparation tends to have equigingival shoulder on line angles.(any suggestions to improve on this plz)

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  Před 5 lety +1

      The end cutting bur is potentially very dangerous, as it can cause internal undercuts. It should be used to simply refine the shoulder carefully. Keep the finish line 1 mm above the tissue before refining - this way, the end result will be 0.5 mm in most cases.

  • @CR-uz8qq
    @CR-uz8qq Před 5 lety

    Hello, Dr.
    The margin width is not constant when preparing. And the margins are shaped to be rugged.
    What should I check for?

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  Před 5 lety

      Great questions: If you have an electric handpiece, turn it down to 2500 and use a finishing diamond to smooth the finish line. Otherwise, use stall-out speed or even a slow speed fitted with a friction grip attachment to refine. Correcting uneven depth takes practice but try using the bur tip to define it more uniformly - the tip of the 8847-016 is 1.1 mm. Another great bur to try is Brasseler's 8881-012 - Best to you, Dr. S

    Hello doctor. In Australian Dental Council exams we have to prepare 1.2mm shoulder. When I do that I tend to get more cutting from proximal areas. Is their a criteria for proximal cutting? Or as long as the taper is fine and margin in transitioning it's ok?

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  Před 2 lety +1

      As long as the measurement is 1.2 and the taper is correct, the results wil be good. If you can use a more narrow bur at first, like a 850-014 this might help...

      PFM: Facial Shoulder 1-1-2 mm deep and relatively sharp internal line angles, and minimal reduction on the lingual with a chamfer margin. ACC (e.max): 360 shoulder with rounded internal (aka fillet) which may measure between 0.5 for e.max in the most conservative cases to as much as is needed for esthetics, but typically about 0.6-0.8 mm. MONOLITHIC ZIRCONIA: Same as ACC but must be at least 0.8 mm deep axially, but may be less on the occlusal.

    Im trying to follow this. The only problem im facing is that im unable to reduce the lingual/ palatal part evenly ..i either reduce too much or too little. Cant use any of the guides u use except putty in my exam. Same problem with the upper central incisor. Then it shows on the temporary crown i make after wards... would appreciate any tips from u in regards to doing the palatal / lingual reduction evenly . Thanks dr !

      Use the tip of a diamond which measures 1.0 mm, like an 856-016 and use it as a depth cut, following the contour ideally. You might also try the "Tenon Prep" from my video - works really well!
