The infamous "pillow hands" (similar to Strickland and some others), dude don't have enough "torque" in his punches and even when he does use his core to punch correctly with full force, he still couldn't knock out Whitaker (who has a weak chin himself). It's funny because Alex Pereira posted footage of his training camp with Strickland, he demonstrated the correct way of punching by using the weight/shoulder movement, still, even if Strickland lands one of those, he will not have enough power anyway, you either born with heavy hands or not

Johnny Hendricks the man who was knocking everyone out until usada showed up then he couldn't even win a fight.
Paulo costa is so weird dude can only cut the cage against southpaws. Whenever he’s against a orthodox fighter he struggles to cut them off. Also for a “power puncher” he tends to rely on volume than 1 punch ko power than someone like DDP
he tries to throw volume shots then find the big one punch after his opponents are hurt

It’s because of that check left hook it’s one of his most underrated chip damage weapons cause southpaw blinds opponents to it
@@siddarthkc8686 Great point and it opens up the body and head kick for costa his most devastating strike. Doesn’t need to set it up as much he just blasts it because the check hook forces southpaws only 1 direction away from costa’s pressure. Issue is there’s not a whole lot of southpaws at middleweight.
Costa is still dangerous but without easy access to his best weapons his offense really struggles to land. It showed in the whittaker and adesanya fights he struggles to get the pressure going effectively. At least with strickland if he can get past the jab and front kick he can get some offense going

After the Izzy defeat he lost something… he used to charge forward, corner his opponent against the cage using forward movement and cutting angles, and then unload on them with vicious kickboxing until he overwhelmed them for a TKO victory. Since the Izzy loss, he trades a lot more now, he’s more hesitant and allows fights to be back and forth. He doesn’t have that same aggressiveness and fearlessness.

I think Costa will probably use more grappling vs. Strickland than he has in any of his previous fights.
Nah he won’t be able to hold Sean down, but might be able to stand and bang since sean doesn’t have the power to get his respect but he still might hurt costa due to the skill difference

Costa's fights in which he does not put pressure towards the fence and do not make powerful and long combinations lose the fight. Against Adesanya, Vettori and Whittaker he didn't and he lost the fights.
That left hook to the head into right rip to the body is brutal. He conditions them to high guard for a while then just spams that body shot and wilts them.
Whoever fights alot, I want Paulo to fight as much as him

Costa really does big brother people into the fence better than most people, besides grapplers obviously. As a striker, his size and presence just forces people to end up backing into the wall and then he fucking boils em down like potatoes.

Yeah he was just scared of his counters and powers after going face forward against way heavier punchers like romero and hendricks, uh uh.
He's so fast and explosive. But he always gets tired. It would be awesome if he could improve his cardio, but I don't really think it's possible. The better strategy would be to just pace himself. If you can win the round with 10 strikes. Then do that. No need to throw 30. It's gonna be a 10-9 round regardless unless he nearly stops the fight, but it's risky to use all that energy.

Fun fact: Costa also punched Uriah Hall in the balls three times in that fight.
