Dan Hardy said it the best, his style turns every fight into a ugly sparring session. That jab, right hand, those 50-70% shots and weird defense has turned everyone besides Pereira into a sparring partner

    • @Taabituubi

He can just pop those shots all night like a piston, and all he needs to do is see the opponent start wilting and start putting combos together. Plus his teeps are money to stop people in their tracks and plop them straight back into his range if they try to blitz him. Sean is a bit flat footed but if it works it works.

      Thanks.
I must admit though, its the only think even closely related to kung fu that I know the name of & is totally harmless to an opponent.
Point I making is that if you practice a horse stance in Kung Fu (what Bruce came from) 10,000 times its still gonna be a harmless move to an opponent. Equally if you practice being timid by hiding behind a defensive jab 10,000 times its still gonna be a pretty harmless move to an opponent.
With that said, Im a big fan of a good jab & although not a big fan of Strickland I do rate him, I just find it annoying that he went from being totally ignored as a potential contender to ending up with the title over night, without fighting anyone in the top 5.

Have you got a physical disability preventing you from slipping a jab?
You don't even have to slip it, you kno there's nothing of serious quality coming behind it so let him put his jab out there n attack off it. Its not like there's no tape of him out there & its not like you wouldn't have weeks to prepare for him.
With Strickland a jab is just a jab, he isn't setting anything up with it.
Besides you lose the fight if you get KOd. Get touched by a timid jab 200 times n theres still a sizable chance you did more quality work than him n the judges are gonna give it to you, unless of course you are actually physically disabled & did nothing but let him jab you 200 times.

Something most people don’t realize: Consistent damage to the same area over the duration of the fight causes swelling to that area. A good jabber with decent power will always swell up their opponents face. Power punchers rarely cause that much swelling, because their punches are usually too far in between for consistency, not accurate enough to hit the exact same spots over and over again, or the fight is already over after 1 combination or well placed shot. They can maybe get off a hematoma, but those are pretty scarce and random.
Extensive swellings from something other than jabs are very rare, since you don’t usually land as consistent with your other weaponry as with your jab, but they’re not nonexistent. Example: The first fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier had Ali‘s right cheek swelling up extensively, because Ali kept getting hit by Frazier‘s left hook throughout all 15 rounds, without ever finding an answer for it.

The jab is a set up punch, nothin more.
It either sets up a power shot or it sets up a defensive move, NOBODY has ever been beaten by a jab alone ... except Loyd Honeyghan when MArk Breland KOd him with a jab ... & Josh Koshcheck who GSP jabbed to death.

@@SPIDERM0OSE I just want to point out a fight where someones jab droppped their opponent of the top of my head. When Kamaru Usman's jab dropped Gilbert. He seems to have a crazy strong jab, or Gilbert just has a major weakness to jabs for whatever reason lol. Coz his chin is clearly good. He's just vulnerable to jabs it's wild

      A jab is a still a punch.
Time it right & it can catch a man off balance n deck him or you might even get lucky n catch him on a nerve when hes still cold n make him wobble, but all in all, among competitive amateurs & pro fighters a jab is only a set up punch.
In a fight you may see an opponent with a cut, you may see them with a broken nose in which case the jab becomes something more than just a set up punch but typically its not a jab that caused the cut or broken nose.
Go check out Mark Breland vs reigning World Champion Honeyghan if you want to see a Kronk Gym styled powerful well timed jab, then go look at Usman n be thoroughly unimpressed.
