      LMAOOOO Spoken like a true casual fan. Was he TECHNICALLY a double champ? Yeah, but he was also gifted the belt after he lost to Jones and Jones had to relinquish the belt. I'm not disrespecting his legacy because he's definitely one of the greats BUT the "champ champ" nonsense was definitely overplayed.

      I know it's actually kind of a trip. Especially when you realize he was destroying guy's who were much taller with longer reaches and some just seemed overall bigger than DC. Even tho people see DC as this big teddy bear, he really was sort of a honey badger in the cage.

    Cormier is the Charles Barkley of UFC. Undersized, strong as a bull, fearless and ruthless in the cage, funny and likable outside. Ended up being a Great commentator now too

      That is actually a really good comparison as well charles barkley had to deal with a goat that stopped him from getting all the recognition he deserved in Michael jordan , i guess that would be like Jon jones for cormier

      Great comparison. I've always looked at Cormier as the guy that has an incomparable ability to win. He's not like an Anderson Silva or McGregor or Roy Jones Jr with flash or style but he seems to have it all. I used to hate watching him win but later realized just how good he is at almost everything! (no crazy kicks mind you) He just can win and I have so much respect for him because he's humble but has achieved so much. I love the guy.

Early UFC heavyweights we’re short so they wanted to make them appear bigger for example Shane Carwin was billied at 6’5 and randy couture at 6’2 even though both are way shorter than Brock who is 6’2 it’s part of their promotion big guys vs big guys after that it just became a trend for all weight classes

    23:23 That slam was incredible. I'm a big wrestling fan and seeing hard slams in a UFC fight to me is amazing. I knew D. C. Had the crazy slams and the hands but didn't know he had kicks like that. He was doing low to high kicks super fast in a lot of the highlights. D.C. is def one of my favs in UFC and he is such a cool guy on commentary 🙂

    I've always known DC was good, I guess I never really paid attention to just how good he was. Now that he no longer fights it's opened my eyes to just how good of a fighter he was. He dominated some legends in the ring and destroyed others. I can't imagine just how good he was if he started doing MMA even ten years earlier than he started. Not to mention he's got a great personality and seems pretty humble.

      Like, whenever I competed in No Gi competitions, I lean heavily on my wrestling experience.
      It's always fun to hear the other guys coach yell "He's a wrestler! Watch for those takedowns!"
      They always expect us to shoot and never expect upperbody takedowns lol.

      I don't wrestle, but I can only imagine clinching with a really good wrestler, or getting thrown by Olympic wrestlers 😁, though I seen somewhere that even tribal Africans have really good wrestlers. American style is like a single/double leg takedowns with clinching and shoots. Africa style is more of clinching and ankle control. The only wrestling I did was when I was around 12 or 13 fighting my uncles for the WWE belt (which was just a normal belt 😁)

Now that’s a guy you should definitely be scared of.

      @@nomadicsoul34 I actually think DC was better overall fast early in his career. He could wrestle, box well, had more stamina early in his career. Just Jones had more physical advantages height and length. But i thought dc was actually winning the rematch. But he kept making that defensive mistake. Jones camp studied and trained to capitalize on that. when dc moves his head he leans laterally to the same side too often and gets predictable. That's why the body kick feint got him to lean into the head kick.

    His pre ufc days at HW were his best. Super athletic able to change levels, kick and his variation of take downs magnificent. A super complete pitbull against much bigger men. Similar weight but his lack of height/reach was made up for with strength stamina, fast twitch movement, wrestling foundation. Close distance quick with ducks leading to takedown. Not quite sure why he slowed down so much, could be back injury could be overeating? But super impressive style

    Cormier found himself in that difficult territory where he was too big to make 205 without struggling and smaller than most top heavyweights. In one division he was always depleted and in the other he was almost always fighting guys bigger than himself. He could do it because he's exceptional, but if he'd been made a little smaller or a little bigger he'd likely have crushed that division even more than he did. He's the modern day Randy Couture though Couture made 205 much more comfortably through a strict diet. Those really high level wrestlers and their ability to beat fighters who're bigger than themselves really is something.

      Lesnar always has to shed about 20-40lbs to get down to 265 and he's not even huge for the division.

      @@stephenr80 he proved that judging someone's face after the fight isn't always reliable. some guys just don't get marked or bleed easily, Roy took so many heavy blows in the head and he just looked like he sparred in a 16oz gloves.

    One of my favorite fighters ever.. he was one of the best wrestlers grapplers ever and a lot of the time he would still throw down and dirty boxing .. like street fighting basically but he would mix everything up so well and then his insane cardio for his size.. and mind u he would just throw around dudes that are triple his size and he was at an older age winning championships .. just amazing .. i miss his walkout entrance and his fights badly he was that good
