I really appreciate the emotional vulnerability you bring to minimalism/conscious consumerism content. It's so helpful to know what you learned but also what you still struggle with. Too often minimalism is advertised as this perfect quick-fix solution.

I realize I am probably one of the older people here. But I want to applaud you on the concept of financial maturity. One additional thing to consider when you are “buying the best“ is how many uses this item is going to serve before it is no longer usable. A $5 sheet pan is not going to make as big of a difference when you’re cooking as a high-quality furnace. Buying small business and sustainable can arguably be switched out with buying used. My best bakeware is from an estate sale. A vita mix, if you will not use it every single day, is not worth more than the cheap one if you can’t afford it. A handheld steamer can be taken on trips with you. It will move easily with you. It does just as good of a job as the $200 standing steamer. A more expensive furnace, in a home that you are going to keep, has significantly more value than the same furnace in a house you will sell in 3 years. Right on about clothes!

I love what you said how you bought things to make you feel better. I had done that a lot with both food and shopping/makeup. I noticed how I overate food as a symotom to how I feel and now im still doing it with shopping. I plan to go on a no buy next year for make up/housegoods/clothes.

Ugh I get so annoyed with 'adult' purchases - they just feel like a waste of money despite being totally necessary lol

YES! They are usually the most practical purchases and best way to spend our money but they suck 😂

yay I've been waiting for this video! really love what you said about the "investment" piece and how it's not always the best route to go and can actually backfire

  • @kasandradaltonnagy9118

I love this and your honesty! I 100% agree and have noticed a lot of the same things in my relationship with money and spending. This month I've been responding to a set of questions about every purchase I make and I can't believe how insightful it's been!

On feeling shame for keeping secrets…. I totally get that yt may be a sort of logging tool and accountability tool, but my dear, do you truly need to lay shame on your self for not sharing everything with complete strangers on the internet. I don’t think so. If it helps, I’ll give you permission to let go of that shame for not sharing with me everything you’ve purchased.
That said, I have my own stash of shame. I keep a secret box of candy and treats in the linen closet. I share not a single secret candy with my kids or my partner or my cat. I feel terribly guilty about it, but I also kinda relish in it.
…Ok back to the vid now

thank you for your kind words! I do have a right to privacy and can control what i share. However, i still feel that some things related to the projects should be shared. Also, in my mind there's a difference between a desire for privacy and hiding something that brings you shame.

I think the real lesson you learned was stop listening to youtube/insta and get practical advice from mom/peers.
