do dogs breathe under water? Are they smart enough to know they shouldn't breathe under water? The First time a dog is introduced to water, how does it know not to breathe under water?
Dilaxan Nathan They probably realize they can't breath underwater, just like we do
Dilaxan Nathan The try their hardest not to dive I know personally, some dogs like labs however don't mind any water though.

Dilaxan Nathan As far as I know most air breathing animals including humans actually have a reflex when they are submersed in water so it's not something they have to learn. For example even a young baby will hold it's breath underwater instinctively. But for god sakes don't go testing that out!
