Intro:
it was a fine Saturday morning, I was relaxing, putting my feet up, regretting my existence, like every other Saturday morning goes, and then, in a moment of spontaneity I decided to check my Twitter feed, the spontaneity was rewarded, because I saw no-one else, but the man himself, daddy Keemstar, saucing it up with a cheeky little feud, with… Marina Joyce of all human beings…
Suddenly I had to check my calendar and make sure that we weren’t back in 2016, because for any of you, who have blessed with not knowing who Marina Joyce is, she is a beauty slash lifestyle vlogger, who became monstrously famous for a very brief moment a couple years back, if you blinked you might have missed it, but if you had your eyes open you might have been blinded.
At the time of the drama, Marina had been doing CZcams for a few years, her channel was performing alright, but it was nothing particularly special. She had been doing pretty much the same content since the inception of her channel, mainly her unfiltered personality, trying to connect with her audience, doing little games, and certain tutorials, and the sort of content that would attract fans of quite an innocent demographic, she was very happy, quirky character who was definitely not afraid of delivering wholesome messages through the platform, which, you know, we definitely need more of.
However, all that was to change at the end of July, 2016, a few days after she posted a video known as Date Outfit Ideas, a video that has now accumulated over 43 million views, yeah, that’s more than any episode from the Shane Dawson documentary series, though, of course, this video has been out longer so there is plenty of time for good ol Shane here to overtake her, but still, let me indicate how much of a movement this was in the moment. In one day she received 35 million views on her channel. That’s what we’re talking about here, it was a movement.
What was the source of this movement? Well one we’ve encountered in the past, one of mystery, the question of the moment being, what is going on with Marina Joyce, because in this particular video “Date Outfit Ideas”, Marina is seen as being a tad… zoned out?
And this, for a brief moment, threw the internet into a frenzy, delirium my friends, and the commentators dashed for their microphones, as the journalists reached for their keyboards to document the newest, weirdest internet sensation, people were asking questions, conspiracy theories were created, was she kidnapped? Was she mentally ill? Was it all for attention? Even the police were sent to her house to ascertain her well-being, well-being that they allegedly confirmed, although people were still somewhat suspicious. After all, a lot of her audience knew what she was normally like, knew her old videos, and her energetic personality, a personality that had been swapped out for a rather unnerving individual.
However, as mentioned, this was a brief trend, and with Marina, withholding the explanation, providing there was one of course, meant that many people quickly lost interest, after all, what’s a mystery if it can’t be clearly solved. Which is what leads us to November 2018, when Marina decides to release a video where she talks to haters, in a rather formless video which jumps from one point to the other, and talks about a philosophy that we’ll definitely address later. She goes out of the way to express how it’s necessary not to reveal the nature of her condition, a debatable, but respectable stance. Another theme that prevailed throughout the video was how she planned to stay out of drama.
So Marina, being the very anti-drama person decided that she would maintain this philosophy by… immediately having drama with the most dramatic person in the history of the dramatic world: good old Keem. You see, after this situation was brought back into light, Keemstar boldly claimed that the reason that all this occurred in the first place was because of content, not any specific content, but honestly, if this claim was true, it might have been multiple content for all we know. Now, when the initial situation arose, she was very quiet on the topic, she never really confirmed any of the theories, never really commented, and maybe that was for the best, maybe that wasn’t, we’ll debate that in a bit, but this time round it was different.
When Keemstar made these claims this time round Marina responded differently, this time outwardly denying that they even had a shred of truth, which, ironically caused the truth to be allegedly revealed after all these years.

My personal theory is that it was technically drugs - but not the kind that KeemStar is implying. I think that it may have been some kind of antidepressant or antipsychotic, where she was prescribed a drug that wasn't right for her, prescribed too high a dose, or a combination of both. A lot of the symptoms she was displaying would be explained by this - not just behavioural, but things like her enlarged pupils and the bruises - as some medications can make you bruise more easily.
Medication can seriously fuck with your brain if you get someone who doesn't know what they're doing - I myself have previously had some major fucking issues in that department thanks to a complete fucking lunatic of a psychiatrist that I was seeing when I was 16. I still remember how it felt - the disjointed thoughts, the rapid speech, the sudden moments of disorientation.
My mood would be at 150%, and then quite suddenly I'd get a very rapid drop and feel suicidal. It got to the point where it was very, very noticeable, even to complete strangers. I would zone out in the middle of sentences and forget what I was saying. Sometimes my brain would come to a screeching halt, and I would sit and stare into space for ten, twenty minutes, sometimes closer to an hour. It was horrible, and even after seven years, I still remember those few months very vividly. Now that I look back on the situation... The way that Marina Joyce behaved in those videos at the time, was very similar to how I was acting during that period in my life. It would make a lot of sense.
Yeah type 1 BI Polar disorder. You feel super energetic then the extreme opposite a week later.
However, meds for that, conceal the manic phase. You kind of feel... Numb. Sleepy. When you're at the "depressed" stage, you're so numb you won't care.
I don't think she was on Those (BI polar) types of psychiatric drugs. Her bruises seem to be a low blood cell thing, so she bruises easily. Eyes wide open. Very skinny. Sunken face.
May be some type of drug in the amphetamine class.
I had a similar experience with a psychiatrist, who just couldn't fathom the possibility that he could've been wrong or that the meds could be making me worse. I had always had hallucinations but before being misdiagnosed and put on the wrong meds I always knew the hallucinations were just that; hallucinations. Then once I was put on the wrong meds I started to think "maybe they are real." And while I had only ever seen things up to that point I began to hear things now as well.
My parents didn't know what to do, they had no experience with mental health, and thought they could trust the doctor, so believed him that I had schizophrenia, and this was just the progression of it. He convinced them I would be even worse if they stopped the meds. Once my parents started to think maybe he was wrong they took me to a different doctor, but she just thought the first doctor must have been right. she even threatened to try to have me taken from my parents if they stopped my meds, because that would be "denying me treatment I needed."
It took 6 years to get things straightened out and find a doctor who agreed to slowly take me off the meds and see if he agreed with the diagnosis off the meds. It was like waking up from a coma. Almost everything I know about that time I only know from my family telling me, as I only have a few very scattered memories of my life from age 15-21. So yeah, while meds can absolutely be life changing, and helpful (finally getting on the RIGHT ones has been for me) I can absolutely believe that Marina's problems could've been caused by the wrong prescribed med, or wrong dose.
Anyway I'm very sorry for the wall of text. It's just my first time encountering someone with what sounds like possibly a similar experiance.
@@Teah8cbdude Bipolar 1 has much longer periods of mood swings, I think it's 3 episodes a year? Bipolar 2 has rapid cycling like you describe. I feel like you're onto something with mania but the drugs would not be creating this kind of behaviour, they suppress it.
@@popartpistol yeah bipolar 2. The thing is, I don't think she was even taking her meds, nor was she even on meds. I've seen amphetamine abusers who don't sleep and tweak, and they do act like she did where she just looks out of it. Hyper and says the same thing over and over because they don't know what else to say.
For example on meth or speed. You can hold crazy conversations, but after a while of not sleeping, your conversations and speech become highly impared. I think she was "tweaking" which can lead to a mild psychotic state

She gained a shit load of weight... And when you come off amphetamines or meth binge. You become incredibly hungry and sleepy for weeks, because the tax that has been done to your body.

Why dont YT community investigate Eugenia Cooney's channel??!?! Shes spaced out 100% of the time and nearly dead and literally has gotten no help this whole time
Because her fanbase is pretty toxic, they defend her and her anorexia/bulimia till death and refused to accept she was/is sick...it's pretty awkward to go there as a viewer because the fanbase idolozes that disorder and attacks you if you give a different opinion. I remember watching two or three videos speaking about her and the amount of hate they got made you never go back there... and with her refusing to accept publicly she's/was sick either because she couldn't see it or didn't want to tell her fanbase, just makes you want to stay away.
It's not that she haven't gotten help, she refused several times and tbh one, as someone who's not imterested in her content, gets tired of seeing her becoming such bad influence and refusing to acknowledge it and her fans being so toxic, you just simply hope she accepts the help and gets better but you don't go back there. With Marina you get the mysterious thing bringing you back for update or conclusion but with Eugenia you know what's going on and you know you can't help at all because they refuse...
Because it's too quick of an answer as to why shes like that. The malnourishment is getting to her brain. As to how she got like this, there's not much public information but shes been skinny even when she was fairly young so it's not new, just more recently getting worse. No one knows enough to talk about it too much bc shes really private

I keep seeing people making comments about her being on drugs. You're partially right but it wasn't street drugs. I am a veteran with PTSD, Dissociative Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder. While going through YEARS of therapy I was often given cocktails of anxiety meds, anti-depressants, anti-psychotics.. etc. If the combination was wrong, my own family didn't even recognize me from my speech and personality. They described as "lights are on but nobody was home" and "in another dimension." When you get into fiddling with brain chemistry and hormones a simple miscalculation in dosage can throw a person completely out in left field. I believe she has some sort of mental illness. What that illness is, who knows? So my opinion, as someone who has had many of the same symptoms, behaviors, speech patterns/mumbling/slurring, and mannerisms tells me she was likely either abusing her prescriptions(which is common as well, especially when it's barbiturates and anti-psychotics), or her care provider hadn't found the right combination to treat her condition, or lastly she avoided getting treatment for whatever reason and we were seeing the full effects of said illness.
I think ur right. Im currently being treated for ptsd, ocd and dissociative symptoms and am on a cocktail of medication and i understand what youre talking about in this comment.

high doses of medication can absolutely make you act and feel tired, confused, sedated; if she had a psychotic break or something, the antipsychotics could assuredly have had an effect on her behavior. abilify made me SO TIRED

At the time all this went down in 2016, I backed the mental illness theory--specifically schizophrenia. The weird facial expressions could be part of a lack of affect, or difficulty expressing emotions appropriately. The "Nam flashback face" could be instances of catatonia. Her speech patterns seem word salad-y to me, though I was never a real fan, so that could just be how she speaks. She's also in the typical age range (early twenties) where symptoms start to show up for consumers. I wouldn't blame her for wanting to keep it to herself, especially given the negative stigma schizophrenia has. I'm not really sure if that theory still holds up, and I definitely don't want to armchair diagnose her IRL, but from what tiny part of her life I can see, it makes the most sense to me.
I thought the same. It's either an act or some sort of psychosis. It was alleged that she partook in psychedelics for a long range of time. I've been there. I definitely had to recover from it mentally.

In the first one I honestly think she’d had a breakdown. I had one in 2011 and after it I was EXACTLY the same as she was in the Date Night video. I acted really surreally and loads of people though I was taking drugs or had gone mad, as I had temporary insanity for about a month or so after it happened. I spent about two days in bed staring at the ceiling and then started acting like that. But a breakdown can come from anywhere, mine was triggered by stress at uni. It doesn’t have to be anything dramatic.
It was like a total hard drive wipe and reboot, and in getting my personality back (or creating a new one) it’s like my brain wires all crossed.
In 2011 I was a fully functioning drug addict and I could say the same 🤷🏽♀️ I acted just like her too lol guess we won’t know for sure until she admits it

The issue with Keems comments and theorizing is their baseless nature compounded by a manipulative undertone and fanbase that believes all his statements.
I personally don't think she owes anyone on CZcams an explanation, especially if it relates to a traumatic experience, mental or physical.
Maybe one day she'll be in a state where she feels able to open up, but putting pressure on them to share or forcing them to do so will likely only exacerbate any existing difficulties she's dealing with. Honestly shame on keem, he just keeps sinking to new lows in my books.
Never thought I'd find myself tearing up at a commentary vid. "No one cares about you? Why should you look after yourself." That...I just realized how deeply that thought's been embedded in my mind. I didn't even notice it was abnormal until I heard it out loud. I'm in a better place now mentally and location wise, and I've been building a support group of friends. It's almost like I don't know how to feel genuinely cared for. It feels temporary, or fake..I'm constantly expecting people to be using me to fulfill a need, or that they'll eventually decide they don't want me around anymore and ghost (my parents sucked and my various preceding relationships with people involved emotional manipulators, narcissists, and psychopaths).
Now I have genuinely amazing people in my life that have shown me in so many ways how much they care, and yet a part of me is still so scared to believe it that it's automatically blocked out. Thank you for doing this video. I know I'm two years late to the party but it's given me a lot to think about.

GREAT video. It seems this one is a bit more open-ended than most of your videos, but for obvious reasons. I think that was a good way to approach this topic. Any time Keem talks about someone else so ambiguously ("she was on DRUGS!") I just take it with a grain of salt and assume that's not accurate information. I do think the truth is probably somewhere in between; likely drugs were involved, but it may have been prescription as Marina claims. I don't know for sure, obviously, but I can definitely sympathize with anyone who has been overmedicated, as that happened to me with anti-depressants over a decade ago. The doctor was prescribing me twice the normal starting dosage, not sure why, while my body tended to react to such drugs in a way that even half a normal starting dosage probably would have been excessive. Needless to say my mood changed completely. I feel rather strongly that if she was seeking mental help and being prescribed drugs to help with that that this could really have been the cause for all of this, as anyone who has gone through this kind of thing knows what a trial-and-error situation it can be, and how different medications can affect people. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to go through all that while still making CZcams videos for the entire world to see.
But then again, if it were me and that actually was the situation, then I'd probably either stop making videos for a bit while that all got sorted out, or I would just come out and explain my weird behavior.

I was put on a high dose of antipsychotics at a fairly young age for bipolar type schizoaffective disorder.y behaviour was completely different than who I truly was for the next 4 years until I was old enough to have a say in my treatment and demanded to be taken off of it, because I knew I was over medicated and I knew it was causing more problems than it was helping. I haven’t taken it in 3 years now and have found a good mix of medication that works for me. If Marina says she was being over medicated for something, I’m inclined to believe her.

Well said and spot on. I, too, have had weird reactions to prescribed medication as well (an MAOI, in my case), but never connected the dots back when I first heard about the marina video. They can practically make you a whole different person, and usually not for the better! I can't imagine having a fanbase watching me go through that.
P.s as a recovering addict clean for 4 years from opiates . She was 100% on drugs (uppers like meth / adderal) and If not that it was mental disorder, like a psychosis . I don’t think there is even slightly another possibility

Something as simple as antidepressants can do that to your pupils, so it could have just been something she was prescribed by a doctor. I have had a few friends become completely different people while on antidepressants. She seems a little jacked up though, maybe she has adhd and takes stimulants. I have been around a lot of drug users, and this is pretty normal behavior.
I will say that I go to a lot of raves and she has the look on her face of someone who is on molly or bought meth on accident.
Also, drug free raves do not exist 😂😂. You don’t have to do drugs there. Nobody cares if you are sober, but most people are fucked up.
Having ADHD and taking stimulants doesn't always make you jacked up and actually, stimulant medication is supposed to calm the ADHD brain for the most part. Having ADHD and having done a lot of research into it, I would feel fairly confident in saying this is most likely not ADHD.
Melanie With An ie I have ADHD and most stimulants did calm me down, but adderall actually made my anxiety worse and sort of made me on edge. I wouldn't say it made me high, but it definitely made me feel...not right. But she could have been misdiagnosed with ADHD and then put on a stimulant which did make her high.
