Intro:
The beauty community, for all it’s make up, has some real savagery lying underneath, and we witnessed that last year when Jeffree Star got into drama with a few people, but most notoriously Manny Mua, and Laura Lee, and when the court of public opinion came out in favour of Star, damage was dealt that can still be witnessed to this day. The beauty community is truly brutal, a cheeky exposé or well-placed drama can really go for someone, for ages, you don’t see that in too many other places.
So when I saw that today’s subject: James Charles was experiencing a decrease in subscribers of unprecedented proportions, well, it didn’t surprise me looking at how cutthroat the beauty community has the capability to be, but even with that said it’s more than that, James Charles is not just any ordinary beauty creator.
This changed however, on the 10th of May, when Tati Westbrook, another beauty creator dropped a video by the name of “Bye Sister”, a play on James’s iconic phrase, in which she documents why, in spite of her extensive history supporting, and working with him, no longer wants to associate with him, these entail a series of criticisms that relate back to the way he has treated his friends, his inappropriate behaviour at certain events, and the fact that he promoted a brand that would be sensitive to younger children, in spite of the fact that he had said to Tati that he wouldn’t promote hers, due to the age of his demographic.

Following that post people brought up old content of Shane that were extremely racist and inappropriate involving children. As Shane was spiraling, Tati posted a video claiming that Shane and Jeffree basically "tricked" her into hating James and pushed her to create her Bye Sister video. Tati's video was not well received considering she tried to completely rid herself of any guilt for her own actions, but it did bring up interesting rumors of potential legal actions against Shane and Jeffree....... basically, this old tea became a whole new tea party lol.

I think the bigger issue (now that the predator allegations are debunked), is why was predatory behaviour ok until someone else's vitamins were promoted?
Edited in May 2021: I will be the first to admit this has aged badly, but whether he is a predator or not (and this week at least, it appears he is), the point still stands that really she was more upset that he promoted a rival product than the things she tried to nail him (to the cross) for at the time.

@@voidcastfam Shane Dawson is an OG CZcamsr who has gotten involved with other creators, including the Make Up creators, through his multiple docu-series. I think he started with graveyardgirl, but essentially he started making these series delving into the creators personally, for reasons of redeeming/helping them. He made one eventually on Jeffree Star specifically, and his "dark past".
Afterwards, they started working together a lot, and Shane was brought into that "community". Shane then started producing an incredibly popular series, detailing the "behind the scenes" of the Make up community and whatnot, but it very heavily featured the production of the eyeshadow palette and merch line that he and Jeffree Star made together. And he ended up also being involved in this drama, as it happened when he was most involved with Jeffree Star and whomever else.
The funniest thing about all of this drama is that neither of those vitamins work anyway 🤷♀️ #fightingaboutnothing

So, this video is obviously outdated, and while you don't want to dwell on the same topic, I'm curious to see what your opinion is today since new claims and accusations have been made.
Please do not be offended, but I have yet to see any evidence of his wrongdoing. The one young man exposed the nudes, yet blacked out the conversation and actual evidence that James knew he was underaged and still pursued him. He did not provide one shred of evidence, and actually concealed what would prove his guilt.
I know this is not a popular opinion, but I don't believe any of the "victims" are actually victims, because they provided zero evidence. As a matter of fact, they removed their videos probably because of legal consequences. I find James' recollection of events to be more accurate and consistent rather than Isayah.
Again, he blacked out the very evidence that would corroborated his testimony, and instead exposed James nudes.
I actually find this video to have aged well; as he was accused before without evidence and again, without evidence.

Most of what James was accused of was *predatory behavior* not sexual assault. That can usually be proven with texts, DMs, etc. What kind of evidence do you want for sexual assault? If someone didn't film and post their own rape then we assume they're lying? There's a reason that experts say allegations of sexual assault should be believed when someone comes forward. People very rarely lie about it and far more often the perpetrators get away with it, most are never even reported because victims know or are justifiably scared they won't be believed, and it's difficult to prove except in cases when it was filmed or the person was biologically male and semen was involved and they didn't use a condom and the victim was brave enough to subject themselves to more trauma by getting a rape exam. _Courts_ should presume people are innocent until proven guilty. The general public should not demand proof from sexual assault victims.
I kind of agree but a lot of times sexual assault or harassment is a hard thing to have evidence for. Not saying he did or didn't do anything I just mean in general.
Jeffree Star needs to be cancelled forever, period. He is beyond redemption at this point imo.

I have come to understand a thing about cancellation. Someone is "cancelled" when they do something their own audience is not prepared to accept. This might be something that is specific to the audience (like The Chicks coming out against the war in Iraq pissing off the conservative element of their fanbase, or Creepshow Art calling people slurs on lolcow after marketing herself as a moral authority on things like slurs) or it could be something that is widely accepted as being wrong (like being a nonce). Milo Yiannopolis whined for years about being cancelled by the left while being funded and supported and published by the right. The second his right wing fanbase learned he'd said something that wasn't acceptable to them either, he was cancelled - fired, dropped by his publisher, denounced by his friends and yeeted into obscurity for the next three years.
Most of Jeffree Star's audience know that he's a trash fire who feeds on drama and then claims to hate it as soon as it backfires on him, that he has no principles and no loyalty. They are there to watch the trainwreck, or they like the aesthetic and they don't care. Those who might have rejected him on moral grounds left long before the Bye Sister debacle. At this point he would have to do something truly universally abhorrent, probably a literal serious crime for that audience to be pissed enough to leave

If its to much to ask, could you please do an episode on MatPat of Game Theory? I know you likely get a ton of requests whenever an incident breaks out and/or aren't really sure when is a good time to do such an episode. But honestly I find GT and all of the controversies, events, and backlash to be incredibly fascinating. Not just on a clickbaity "who IS MatPat" but also as a sort of reflection of CZcams itself if that makes sense.

I actually got to meet Jeffree Star at a mutual friend's home in 2017. I noticed during dinner that he would only talk about himself, and that was true when we talked privately after the party. BUT being conceited was not the worst thing about him. He repeatedly made 'passes' towards my straight friend (also a friend of the host named Justin) and pressured him to take X with him. My friend, Charlie, declined under my advice that night, but received alarming and sexually charged texts from Star for months after. I saw the texts, it was disturbing to say the least...

It's really fucked up that it later turned out that James Charles really was a creep but these specific allegations were still false.
Yeah that's the craziest part. They went through all this drama of spreading rumors and lying which is possibly why when evidence emerged that James was an actual predator, thought it's generally been believed and taken seriously I feel like the dramageddon incident made it so the true alligations weren't able to carry the weight they otherwise would have and because of that James is still making videos, doing collabs and a bunch of people bought his shitty Painted products and he still has way too many fans. It's some crazy shit. And it sucks for Tati who was in a sense used and possibly at least somewhat "tricked" by Jeffree and Shane who wanted to take James down and Tati has never really recovered from the blow this incident did to her career on CZcams.

The fact he did what he did with the competitor clearly shows that he does not have his head on straight, does not value what she had done for them and to me, would have signified a complete lack of care for the friendship. If it were me in Tatis position, I would not have felt that direct connection with him would have done anything. I guess that's just a difference in personalities.
I also really don't think this was expected by her. Logically, it wouldn't be to most people - a huge channel like JC dwarfed her own sub count, and we are all aware that he has what most refer to as "rabid" fans. We've all seen massive creators fan bases attack 'haters' and what have you.
