Craft Supplies USA are veneers going to bond well to the blank
I like to have one of the ring 14
Sir I need this ring 💍 not need making products..
I just looked at the ring cores but they have the same size but different millimeters how do i know which one will fit me?
I don’t want to make one. I want to buy one!! So, where can i purchase your gorgeous work??
Your video inspired me, a total rookie, to make over a dozen of these rings so far using the same tools you did. A few key takeaways for those following the video's instructions: 1) Keep your blade sharp!! If your blade is even the slightest bit dull, you are likely to shatter the ring core as you shave down the surface area or final width. (Ask me how I know - ha ha :) In my experience, you need to sharpen your tools at least once during the process of making one ring. And if you have one of the carbide tip "easy tools" like I do, rotate the tip after only a couple rings. They don't stay sharp very long. **Best advice: Get a small bench grinder for about $65 at Home Depot or Lowes. You're gonna need it. 2) For final finishing, I suggest a few layers of the green bottle epoxy instead of the pink bottle of stain that Mike uses. If you use that pink bottle, the ring will soon break down and fall apart after getting it wet a few times. Add a layer of epoxy, spray it with accelerator, sand lightly with 400 grit, and repeat 3-4 times. It'll look just as nice and be much more rugged. 4) One of the wood blanks Craft Supplies USA sells is called Ironwood. It's tough to cut and will dull your blades even faster. If you order wooden blanks, call their office and ask the customer service rep for softer wood cores, at least to start. 5) If you order the acrylic blanks to make a ring (not shown in this video but available from Craft Supplies USA), be prepared for a really bad smelling process. Those acrylic cores make a stringy mess and smell terrible as you turn them. 6) When you're hollowing out the core to size, press gently. With a little practice you'll feel the cutting tool reach the double-sided tape. 7) You may find your ring core hole gets narrower as you bore toward the waste block. That's OK! Instead of boring the whole core at once, switch back and forth between boring the center hole and scraping back the front surface of the wooden block.
All in all this is a really fun project that anyone can do. I had ZERO experience and am finding it to get easier with every ring. You can do this!
Hey would you be so kind as to type out the list of tools and machines he uses I wanna make a ring I haven’t made one in a long time but I am not as knowledgeable with this
just bought a bunch of these bushings, they are pretty useful.
For the past 6 months I've been watching tutorials like crazy but none of those can be compared to your video. I'm so proud of you son.
Thank you very much for presentation, wonderful!
Thank you, nice job! I bought 2 bands after watching this video. They took me about an hour each to make but they turned out great. Had just a little trouble with the first one getting the edges turned to the band, but got it finally. I will be turning more soon!
Thanks for the comment. We're glad you're enjoying them because they're a lot of fun to turn!
Nice job, looks great!

Thank you!
really liked it
Un verdadero arte en anillos gracias por los videos
De nada
Super, big, ciao From Genova, Italy
Very nice thank you 🙏
Nice vid.. I'm a beginner so its abit advanced for me
. Thanks
It's not that hard. The hardest thing I am trying to work out is the finish isnt staying very long and the wood is peeling from the ring cores.
@@MCarberry89 well your work is pretty damn cool. I'm working on it, learning
THANK YOU SO MUCH MY FRIEND
What a beauty... That's all I can say...
Thanks.
Woow amazing.
I love your work....
Your work really inspires me...
Thank you for sharing your inspiration.... 🙏
Im Thinking about getting into wood turning it looks really fun
It is. You should take a beginners class first. Then get a small lathe, and get carbide tools unless you have taken a sharpening class. When shopping for a lathe keep in mind tools are $60-$80 each, and you'll need at least a round and square tip one.
I've made a couple , but I find it rather difficult to use the skew and open the hole up to accept the ring. It's very difficult to cut straight in. You should offer drill bits that are exact size of the OD of the ring for a good fit.
I have one my grandpa made it is awesome and quite a bit of people noticed it after I got it!
They grab a lot of attention for sure. We've got them in Titanium now too :)
that's encouraging because I'll be debuting them at a craft fair for the first time this weekend in Koa and Zebrawood.
Send us a picture of your display. We’d love to see it
Will do.

Excelente video mi friend.
Wow, very nice !
Yes they are :)

Impressive, im think im might have to copy your idea and make a movie of this for my channel.. Great craftsmanship.
Very nice rings bro
Thanks
Good job
Thank you
Super brother
very fun!
I like it
Top!
Muito bom !!
good video, but not as easy as he makes it look. even for a seasoned turner. very important to have a very small scraper for the core sizing. you don't want to cut into your waste block otherwise your core will sit too low when you insert it and you'll discover your blank will end up too narrow for the core once you remove it. also very important that when using your scraper your, blade remain parallel to the spindle otherwise your core will end up too big on one side. it's slow going sneaking up on the coring so if anyone has any tricks on how to keep the scraper parallel (other than eye-balling) please advise. until then, patience is your best ally.
This is the same battle I am having
excellent your work, congratulations ... could you tell me where I can get the steel rings .. so smooth to stick it to the wood .. thanks
Boy o boy 👨🏼🔧you are crazy guy. This project is so interesting that i wanna buy a CNC machine to begin with it just for fun 😉. I am Alishah from Germany 🇩🇪. With love and care ✌🏻
These are a trip ~_~
Nice
Good👍🏼
Can't wait till you all get more in stock ready to turn me a new wedding band
We've got plenty now :)
What did you use to hold the ring in place while turning? I can't seem to find that anywhere.
Thank you
Hey Mike! Awesome job with the video...love the look of these rings. Ordered some ring cores and bushings, but having trouble finding the right tool in my shop. After you drill through, at about 2:49 you say to use a skew or scraper...which are you using...what size....got a link to the item? ...thanks
I used a Robert Sorby 1/2" Square Point Scraper. Here's the link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/129/3509/Robert-Sorby-M2-HSS-Square-Point-Scraper
Very2x nice sir
bery good ...
Somethibg about his voice reminds me of Clint Eastwood😅 Nìce job👌
Now I can't unhear it. Thanks a lot.
Wow please bring that in Australia I want to buy some
Really beautiful rings, but I think I prefer the flat top rectangular rings.
Excellent video, very easy to follow and certainly makes me want to try. Do you have any outlets for the bushings etc. in the UK as buying from the US has cost me dearly in the past due to Tax and Import Duty from Customs etc. wish makes for an expensive buy.
We don't of anyone that carries ring supplies outside the USA.
Look those rings are really nice. Where can I by the finished product, a ring that's already made from you guys. Those look good. What's the price, a website to buy your creation. Thank you.
Hi. We’re can I get a the pen holder tools that you used in your video. Great videos.
Cut an edge on both sides to metal core. Cut material down about 1/16 or better and sand and polish. The look is very nice it resembles the look of an inlay ring. Try it you will be surprised on the transformation.
Could I use a forstner bit to drill out the blank?
You can use any bit to start the hole, but you'll want to finish with your scraper to get the fit just right.
*GREAT)*
Great work !!! What type of sandpaper is that?
We used Abranet Sanding Screens. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/18/4928/Abranet-Sanding-Screen-Sheets-5-Pack
Your voice is like Clint Eastwood
Do you sell the completed rings? They’re beautiful.
Have you thought about offering bracelet cores similar to your ring cores?
I don't think we have. Thanks for the great idea :)
Мне очень понравилось, спасибо)
Пожалуйста
Hey, I know this was made a while ago, but when you applied the CA glue, what was that paper/cotton swab you applied the CA glue to?
What kind of cloth do you use to apply the ca finish? And do you wait very long between coats?
Great thank you!
You're welcome. Feel free to call us at 1-800-551-8876 if you ever want to speak with anyone.
And good luck with the CA finish :)
Quiero uno. Bendiciones.
What type of double back tape do you recommend? I've tried two types now and they both just melt to the wood.
Have you tried the Double-sided tape we sell? www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/85/5833/Permacel-Double-Sided-Tape
What was the scraper you used to finish sizing the hole? Thanks
We used a 1/2" Square Point Scraper. Here's a link www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/129/3508/Artisan-Square-Point-Negative-Rake-Scraper
Wath kind of double-side tape should I buy, I tried some but the problem is when we turn, the piece move due to the foam of the double-side tape, is the carpet double-side tape should be a good idea?
Try giving ours a try. It's cloth based and very sticky compared to others on the market. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/85/5833/Permacel-Double-Sided-Tape
When turning acrylic rings do you sand with micro mesh?
Micro Mesh works great on acrylic rings. You can also use Micro Magic or Micro Surface Pads. Here's a link to each...

Micro Magic: www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/40/6059/Dr.-Kirks-Micro-Magic-Polishing-Wax-3-Piece-Set
Micro Surface Pads: www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/18/2459/Micro-Surface-Pen-Finishing-Pads-9-Piece-Set
Sorry for the late reply.
good videos
Glad you like them!
Everytime I used the insta bond activator after putting thin ca glue on it for a finsh it would make it not shinny and have cloudy patches this is my first time using ca glue as a finish. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong? And how would friction polish work with a ring? Would it not hold up as well as ca glue? Thank you
Sounds like you're holding the activator too close while spraying. Hold the can about 12 to 18 inches away from the piece or it drys too fast and clouds. Friction polish will work, but it is not as durable as the CA finish in the long run.
Craft Supplies USA oh I see that makes sense thank you
You're welcome. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 1-800-551-8876. We're always happy to assist.
I live in the UK where would I be able to purchase the stainless steel blanks.
Thanks for the comment. We do ship internationally. Please give us a call at 1-800-551-8876 if you have any questions. Thanks.
Great video! What type or kind of double-sided tape do you recommend, carpet tape or another type??
Did you ever find a good option? I've been through a handful myself and am still searching.
I use regular double sided carpet tape.
Good
You should make a set for the husband and one for the wife ! I’ll buy that!
I have a scrap piece of padauk. What are the dimensions that I need for this?
Also, is there a difference between using a forstner bit or a skew to make the hole?
Thanks.
The blank will need to be about 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/2". We recommend using a skew to get the hole perfectly sized. A forstner bit will work just fine, but it's hard to find the perfect size bit for the rings hole. You can always use an undersized forstner bit, then finish it off with the skew.
Hope that helped. Thanks.
Thanks!
I have a 3" x by 3" piece, I'm assuming turning that won't be too different from turning a 1-1/2" square. Would just take some more time. Thanks!
This thing looks better than golden ring
A circle blank would work the same as a square blank right
Yes, it'll work fine.
What type of material do you use for high - gloss paint? 🙏
It's a CA finish. Cyano-Acrylate, commonly known as "super glue".
Trying your method but when drilling the initial hole my tape always breaks free of the waste block, just as the bit is leaving the backside of the blank. I am using a quality double-sided tape, I am using a brad point bit and it seems maybe this is causing the issue? Any suggestions....
Hey Mark,
I would recommend increasing your drilling speed and try using a standard twist bit instead of a brad point. Also, make sure the surfaces are dust free before applying the tape. If you're still having issues, give us a call at 1-800-551-8876 and ask for Mike. Thanks.
I've had the same issue. I think double sided tape just doesn't work.
When I make rings, I use those small, square, double sided foam like pads used for hanging. 3m makes them. They don’t come off unless you want them too, pretty much precut to the size I need, and aren’t expensive. Works great.
Was the grain oriented inline with the bed, like spindle turning?
Yes. The grain was oriented inline with the bed.
Hi ! Do you take overseas orders ? Europe for example ?
Yes. We ship internationally
Is every bloody video from the good ole US of A? there must be some woodturners in britain !
anybody out there have any clever tricks for removing dried CA glue from the stainless steel core? and please don't tell me to use my fingernail, i prefer they remain attached to my finger. used "thick" CA and the squeezeout on the waxpaper side always seems to collect on the inside of the ring core. tried an xacto knife but the blade is harder than the stainless and scratched it. fashioned an acrylic mini-chisel and that was too soft. in the future i will go easier with the CA and tape off the inside of the core or coat the inside with paste wax.
Try putting some wax onto the ring core, before you apply CA glue. This will make it much easier to remove the dried glue. Also, if you need to remove dried glue, try using some acetone, because that'll break down the glue. Here's a link to the wax we recommend using. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/17/5652/Dr.-Kirks-Scratch-FREEE-Woodturners-Polishing-Wax
And sorry for the CA headaches :)
@@CraftSuppliesUSAthanks but i tried the acetone thing. only works if the CA is a thin film.
800 grit up to finish 2000 grit
