- How to make wooden rings without power tools. You’ve heard me say that you don’t need fancy tools or a large workshop to make wooden rings and in this tutorial I will prove it. I will show you how to make a bent wood ring with simple tools only.

This ring took me about 1.5 hours with the bare bones tooling set up. I want to show you that you can make valuable wooden rings without investing an arm and a leg for tools, so I hope this tutorial helps. - Jak na to + styl
Thank you for this! My partner took me hiking around a local trail and proposed to me on a fallen tree with seats carved into it yesterday. I'm going to find a way to make thin sheets out of the slice of wood I take from that log where we both sat and make a band for him out of it instead of a boring and cheap silver or gold band men tend to get.
@LostBiden ewww I'm telling your wife bout this comment.
If you use a vegetable steamer, it makes the wood much more pliable and you get a stronger set after drying. It also doesn't make the wood swell as much as soaking and drying time is greatly reduced.
How long do you steam the wood?
I’ve been on both woodworking and jewelry making deep dives, so I was destined to arrive here
For people who want to give this a try: it gets messy, a lot! Be careful working. The gluing part is a pain in the ass, you can easily break the veneer, you can end up gluing you goves etc. Prepare more veneer than you have in mind. If you want 2 rings, I suggest cutting 4 pieces at least. I tried engraving something on top, I think it is doable but needs practicing.
But in the end, I think it is worth it. I got 2 rings at the moment, they are not perfect but I am happy with them. Good luck.
And thanks for this insightful guide Dan. I could not do it without knowing all these. Cheers.
Insightful!
@joker Darker chill dude. Nobody is trying to sell you anything. And it is more durable than you think, trust me. It's a shame that I've lost my ring a couple of days ago, though. Keep yours safe, whether it be a wooden or metal one.
@joker Darker chill bro you're being so negative about something that is simply fun to make
@joker Darker Why are you yelling?
@joker Darker WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING???
I'm making a ring for my husband and this tutorial was very helpful!
good luck
The technique works well, just dont expect it to work the first time. Took me about 20 failures before I got it perfect.
@Make your own nice job done. Easy and simple
We need an update! What happened ???
I hope u got it right and no mistakes lol
Damn you. Now I have another project to attempt! Well done, looks awesome.
My thoughts exactly 🤦🏻♀️
itˋ s like eveywhere: first try: forget it. second try: itˋ s a gift for your enemy, second try it is for a friend, 4th try it will be for you,,... 10th might be a masterpiece... but you have to practice practice practice....
Like most things in life
Full power truth!
If someone made me even a crapy ring i would probably not be an enemy anymore
Any advice for loctite activator spray or where to get it? The one I used made the glue all white
@@feeltoofree check your hardware store you can get 2 part cyano-acrylate glue with the activator just make sure your in a well ventilated area using it as that stuff is a serious solvent I have sent my head spinning and had to lay down for the rest of the day because of it before
One thing you can also use that most everyone has on hand for glue ups is parchment paper.
It provides a perfect non stick surface and is also paper thin so it would keep the wood from sticking to anything.
I've used this for quite a few of my glue ups in the past.
Great idea!
Oh that is a fantastic idea
That's a great idea. Thanks
...”This process can be sped up considerably by using time lapse”
Did you want to watch the whole few hours 😂,, as if mr smart a$$
Diz 😂 I just wish I could sand that fast.
...I gone try it
and using bamboo

I think he said a Lathe. It's a wood shaping machine.
Made my first bentwood ring because of this video... Now I'm many $100's deep with tools and supplies haha. You've inspired me to try and made my own and see what interesting designs I can come up with, thank you!
Hahahahaha this is awesome to hear, keep up the great work 👊🏽😎
Awesome technique! Thank you for making and posting!
I have a suggestion to possibly make the gluing easier, or specifically to help prevent gluing yourself to your work. Put painter's masking tape on the wood, on the outside, and as you go, peel the tape out of the way as you glue the next layer over the top.
This is a technique I use when I use super glue to glue corks on the tenons of clarinets and other woodwinds.
I love your straightforward and no bullshit attitude. I have never seen your channel before, but you had my subscription by the 2 minute mark.
Thank you for sharing your skills and ideas for alternative solutions to get the results you want.
Another great job glad to see you going back to the beginning to show process 👍 👍👍

Nick Woodward 👊🏽😁
My girlfriend will love this! Thank you so much for that video. I love working with wood but I sadly do not have all these cool tools that I would often need you make jewlery. This "tutorial" was very helpful!! :)

This ring is to me far more beautiful than any expensive metals or Jewell’s. subscribed 👍
Great video thank you for sharing this.
Great video! Thank you!
I love your ring it's so beautiful. Thanks for teaching a hand Crafted answer. It's fun to learn, it's possible without power tools.
it worked like a charm
I do admire your skills. My attempts, if filmed, would have looked like a comedy routine! I will keep trying!!!
Making it look easy is the truest sign of a master.
There is nothing bad about comedy.
Que buena idea, muchas gracias
Great Video, Thanks Brother👍
Thank you for creating a genuinely wonderful video. It came at the right time for me. Take care . . . Always.
Good job. I have to try it.
For rings, a lathe is very expensive but a normal power drill is not. Get a longer drill bit, wrap a bunch of masking tape on it until the ring can sit snug on it. For things like sanding and polishing the outside, it'll save you a lot of time.
This is the method I searched! Ty for the idea
That’s awesome! I’m going to have to try this. I’m subscribed 👍🏼
What a great phrase “…just some determination…”! Story of my life. Let’s do this!!!
This is the best tutorial! I just made the cutest wedding bands, and they turned out great!
How did you get the sizing correct
Hey Dan! I love all your videos. You inspired me to start ring making with this video. You're very genuine and truly care about expanding your knowledge for the craft and passing that knowledge to others. Keep up the amazing work! I cannot wait to see what you bring us in the future!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it :)
Thank you..I intend to make a ring in this manner for my son.
This was great, I will try to make my own using these tips :)
Good job!
very nice. I had made some "scrim shaw" rings from a piece of PVC..I took a scap of pvc and cut them with a hack saw. sanded the edges and rounded the side just a tad..with a Dremmel or Exacto blade knife(whatever you might have) I first sketched desin on "ring" and then scratched in the design. Paint or ink then rubbed on..whereas it filled the design grooves..Wiping off the ink/paint carefully..leaving the design visable. not too shabby
Very cool, thank you!
Good & nice idea zeb, to make a wooden ring priceless.
More, more, more... God bless & stay safe Zeb.
