  • What steps did we take to prep Calypso, our Bristol Channel Cutter, for Hurricane Florence? What might we have done differently?
For starters, you have to look at weather, forecasts, and where you are in the marina.
Decide if you're staying or not.
If you're staying in the marina, remove sails and other items that will create windage. (We had a nice day to dry the sails out a bit from the rain the day before, which we wanted to do before removing them.)
Check lines, adding more for expected surge/tide. Don't only look at the pilings and cleats on "your" dock!
Check and double and triple check.
Hurricanes are no laughing matter. We dodged a bullet in the middle Chesapeake Bay; our friends and fellow cruisers to the south in North Carolina and South Carolina were not so lucky.
    Stay safe.
