We don't know the exact structure of the contracts Chelsea gave their players. One thing that has been reported is they aren't maxed out yet, and only will be based on performance. If they reach a certain number of appearances, win a certain number of trophies, accolades etc. They have incentives built in that the players can aim for to increase their pay over time. Gabby made the point that players raise their game all of a sudden when they realize their contracts only have a year left, which makes sense if the only way to increase your wages is to renegotiate. Chelsea may be avoiding this by laying it all out at the start. It's a gamble and one that could fail, but there is some logic behind it and people find it so strange because it was a new and different way of planning. We'll see.
The premiership ruling a few months ago stated that the maximum contract from *now on is you can only get now is 5 year contract it’s strange that they are talking about this?
How many years did the Chelsea lade get?? Gabby never said

By the sounds of this conversation most footballers become footballers exclusively for the money. If this is true why isn’t the entire premiership playing in Saudi Arabia?
I can’t understand what Gabby is getting at. On one hand he’s saying the young players at Chelsea are getting too much money on 8 year deals, then says the players at other clubs should be looking to work harder to earn more money? Let’s be honest, any person would take more money on a longer contract for doing the same job!
He isn’t the brightest and I don’t think he plays up to it, it’s pretty genuine but I don’t get the hate for the bloke 🤷♂️

He’s not bitter though he says stuff to wind people up. Some people take him way too seriously like on TalkSport he’s messing about most of the time and people actually think he’s serious.
