At times it was "too easy" for VVD at Celtic, the problem was that he often played like that and was prone to some very basic errors due to not applying himself properly.
He was clearly a very talented defender when we signed him in 2013 BUT there's a reason he wasn't snapped up by Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord and there's a reason that Celtic only got £12 million from Southampton for him in 2015 and not £30-40 million from the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd etc....
There's been a bit of re-writing of history, in terms of his two seasons at Celtic, because he went on to be one of the best CB's in world football for a time

of course it was, it’s not like in 2 years u can go from a meh player to a world class player, people always say he took a while to get to his peak when in reality he was probably there for a few years prior it’s just he wasn’t in good enough teams to be noticed. I wanted Manchester United to get Van Dijk from Celtic so bad. Watching him dribble the entire pitch, ping long balls, score bangers from open play and free kicks, he was unreal. Then he eventually went to Liverpool and ruined it. Idk why Van Gaal never signed him.

They’re laughing about Lennon saying that he won’t be here long… That’s the problem, Celtic cannot keep any of their great players (bar Larsson). He was good for Celtic but he also had a few less positive performances, Edward Ofere of Caley Thistle dominated him in a scottish cup semi-final. He was doing more on the ball at Celtic, taking free-kicks and trying to dribble through teams on his own (see his goal against St Johnstone), but he wasn’t as good defensively as he became when he went down south.

Spain has won one world cup and 2 euros with a once in a generation team. Italy has won 4. Plus 2 euros! Messi, Maradonna and Platini have Italian lineage. As do alot of Argentinean and Brazilian greats. Including Di Stefano( Real Madrid Legend). Kryuff taught Barcelona how to play football. A Dutchman! Spaniards are full of themselves. Without Di Stefano and Dutch maestro Kryuff, Spanish football would still be in the dark ages.
