About Amygdala:
Step into the eerie world of Amygdala, a first-person horror game that takes players on an unsettling journey through mysterious dimensions.
Explore a haunting location, uncovering its secrets while encountering terrifying monsters that lurk in the shadows.
Amygdala is the destination of all the entities in the Universe that are lost in the nightmare. There are cases in which some entities are allowed to have their own symbolic body as a manifestation of the nightmare;
This is the case for entities that manage not to succumb to the nightmare but to live through it, and in the most formidable cases, to control it.
These individuals are known as Rulers of Nightmares.
If a nightmare for some reason becomes unstable, the Absolute Judge takes action takes action through you, and this is where your adventure begin.
You are the nightmare seeker and it is your job to take the eyes of the Rulers of Nightmares.

@slycoon89 Thank you! It depends a lot on the mood and inspiration, however minimum 1 week up to almost 1 month - To do Amygdala about 4 months! As is said in the video, it is an experience rather than a game, a pretext to highlight the various creatures with a narrative thread, without too many pretensions
@Nazemi96 That's cool, I'd be curious to hear your speculations! The plot is deliberately very abstract in certain things, but here and there there are still documents and dialogues to contextualize most of the important things!
@falcon6752 Haha, thanks, at launch it was truly a bug fest, doors that didn't open, keys that were too small and difficult to take and other things, I wanted to contextualize these changes over time on a narrative/lore level with the various hotfixes. I find it very fun

If your art is 3D design, yo udon't really have a choice. Adding gameplay is like adding games or puzzles to a real museum to make it more interactive and guide people through the exposition.
It's a shame game dev requires so many specialiazations. Not many solo devs can do all of game design, art, audio, coding, project management, and marketing. But that's the nature of the beast.

As a Psychology student I will admit the game is beautifully done especially as a representation of the amygdala where fears, aggression and defense mechanism is located near the hippocampus which your memory is stored in. Both parts actually work hand in hand, when one is damaged the other reacts such as both short-long term memory loss, hence probably why the souls are lost cause the amygdala could have been distorted.
Also found it dope how each represents a desire and it's danger too, Ego (both good and bad), and the cost of becoming excessively prideful and "biting the heads off" of those you see as lesser, the desire for knowledge making you slothful and neglecting the rest of your life for learning, leaving you sedentary and unhappy, and if course Beauty, and the ever lusting after it leading to putting yourself in a cage as you mutilate yourself, physically and mentally, to fit in, leaving behind passions for fleeting projects to fit in that you drop when you get bored or they're no longer trendy.
This developer creates some astounding art and deserves a lot more attention.

I love this note here, because it talks about a bug with the game in a very in universe format, "Nightmare seekers would bring objects into the safe rooms to bring them to the amygdala, which fueled the nightmare insects and created problems for the continuation of activities inside the nightmare. And as such the absolute judge removed that ability"
Basically boils down to, Beta testers would bring objects into safe rooms, and leave the nightmare with them, causing bugs and breaking the game, so the game dev removed that ability.
I love the implications of this, one that the Absolute Judge itself is the dev, and two that the Nightmare Bugs are LITERALLY associated with game bugs. Everything about this screams artist fucking around, which makes sense because the guy IS an artist. I really hope they decide to make more interactive media in the future because making a genuine atmospheric game with horrifying parts mixed with somewhat goofy, self-aware artist/dev humor is such an entertaining mix (the "I can flyyyy!" Head is so silly, it reminds me of Space Core from Portal 2). Also the fact that it's a horror game, but they clearly made the game with "look at all the shit I made" in mind, also makes it more enjoyable imo. One of my biggest issues with some horror games is how you barely get to actually see the creatures, and unless it's a game that's not meant to actually show you what's after you, it kinda feels a bit silly to me. I love to appreciate detailed and fucked up designs, so id like to, y'know, see the designs, lol.

Since eldritch horrors are often depicted as being telepathic they totally could just sound like an ordinary dude if they spoke directly to your mind...or creepier yet they could speak to you with your own voice.

This game looked genuinely incredible. Everything from the visuals, music, characters, quotes, scares, etc. I was genuinely in awe at these visuals and character descriptions/stories. That mannequin level was so off-putting and creepy as well.
The unholy screech at 37:40 ish sounded so genuine. Like. Yeah that dude was scared out of his mind. Thank you for putting your cardiovascular health on the line for our entertainment

I never thought I'd say this but I kind of wanted there to be more jump scares. Love the game though regardless. The visuals and creatures are INSANE! Truly a piece of art

I also love how a lot of the meta things flew over your head, like nightmare insects being a euphemism for bugs/glitches in the game, and a lot of the notes involving them basically being devlogs on changes

The art style and everything around within this game is amazing. The developer did a great job!
Something I picked up that IGP never seemed to pick up: In the various writings (and specifically in the writing bits), any reference to the Absolute Judge seemed to be a wink-wink-nudge-nudge reference to the Developer, and likewise any written reference to the troublesome Nightmare Insects was a reference to game bugs. Hence the "keys" that open doors "if the Nightmare Bugs have disrupted things", if a game-breaking bug prevents you progressing you have a "key" that can open any door in that segment. Same thing with the button above the final door, it's so the "Absolute Judge" (game dev) can "open" (remove) that door if "Nightmare Insects" (game bugs) mess it up.

Honestly, I was so scared after watching this video that I still can't sleep peacefully. The effects and editing were top-notch, every detail added to the terrifying mood. I'll remember this horrible experience for a long time.
That was incredible. The creatures have a sense of grotesque beauty to them. It was a wonderful ride of a game.
Eldritch stuff can be so fascinating. Though when it comes to it, I can't help but think of Hermaeus Mora and his eldritch realm of Apocrypha.

I really love the symbolism of the beauty nightmare being in a hospital like setting. Basically a nod to how people constantly try to achieve perfection and beauty through plastic surgery.
