From my understanding of the lore, the Neighbor basically locks his own son in the basement after the incident in which his son killed his daughter by accidentally pushing her off their roof while they were playing. This death happened immediately after the death of their mother due to a car crash. Weather this was a means of punishment or a way of protecting the son I don't recall. The lore does go much deeper than this but it's a good starting point here.

It looked like the devs went back to the basics (pre-alpha Hello Neighbor) and then expanded on it by adding more Neighbors and a thicker story. I'm very optimistic about this one.

When the neighbour lifts the player by the neck, it takes around 177 Nm to do so, and a pretty buff dude can only put out around 34Nm. So the neighbour is quite stronk

I really liked this! Instead of a huge house filled with seemingly unconnected puzzles they broke them up into smaller houses and newer neighbors, who seem nice, but are hiding something sinister, kind of like the main draw of the original game! Animation’s great too!

This game doesn’t really scare me just more dread because the idea of being chased and being found in a place you’re not supposed to be fills (most) people with an unpleasant feeling which is exactly why this game takes years off my life every time I watch

@@kylesimone6140 well in the theme of the game all those emotions stem from fear... especially in the way he worded it. Anxiety stems from fear and fear is a very multidimensional complex emotion. He may not be consumed with fear but that feeling of discomfort from being followed is a sign of non cognizant fear which means he isn't aware that, that feeling stems from fear... fear doesn't always have to feel intense.
IGP asking why everyone is so hostile as he is breaking and entering made me giggle.
Updates that I think would make this amazing: 1 or two more inventory slots, or maybe ones that group related items, riding the bike, just reduced jank in general. If they could do that, it would be really cool. I'm curious why almost every moving object blatantly clips.
Also I think instead of removing item stacking to traverse, they should have just made it better, like having items snap or something.
So what I had gotten through the game was that the child is that of the neighbors. The cult uses children as sacrifices (Could be wrong) and he was only trying to hide his child (Theres very clear resemblinces in the face and also the tree house that is connected to his home, doesn't seem like a man with no kids would randomly have) Aswell as his daughtor who im guessing is going to be put into the game later on or already had something bad happen to him (Clear signs that they are his children from around his home, the clear photo of the three of them, the drawing with them all togeather, ect ect) His last hope was to lock away his child and act as if they were already taken before the cult takes them. But after you letting him free, and the father now crushed you in the end were the bad guy.
(ps) I can't wait for more updates to come out! I really hope IGP will do a full play through again, or atleast update playthroughs when more and new stuff comes out. I always love watching him just always heartbroken when he doesn't do full playthroughs cause there is no other youtuber I know that plays the games he does.

I remember playing the first demos of the game, it had an interesting concept. You played as the neighbor's brother, investigating an abandoned neighborhood. You had to rescue the neighbor from a guy in a crow suit.
I honestly didn't expect this to be good, considering what I have seen so far about the game. But it isn't bad at all, a much needed improvement for the series. Though the ending feels quite incomplete.
You've been on a role with exciting and interesting games! I've never been the biggest hello neighbor fan but I'm sure you'll make it great!

I think the Neighbor is protecting his son from the Cult. The kid seems to be his son (or a child he views as one).

Nobody really wants to play a different game to understand a basic plot point of this one. At the very least, put something where the player could identify that and if you want to go into detail in another title, you can. That's very poor story-telling

Jello Neighbor was always beautiful, but sometimes you need to let a game die. Devs went NUTS with their updates, and mad respect for their work, seriously their puzzles and level design was just incredible. But boy howdy did it get weird fast.
Reminds me of a free-roam point-and-click adventure with the way the clues and puzzle pieces are strewn about.
I watch the videos just to listen to those shrieks of terror, the infamous "YOU SUCK" after managing to escape and the maniacal laughter every time he figures something out, but honestly the reviews of the games themselves are pretty informative. More than half the games in these videos are ones I've never heard of but I'm bound to at least check them out after watching IGP play through it.

So according to the books, Theodore (the neighbor) is a man who likes to build things (see his previous houses and the amusement park) however there were some incidents in which people lost their lives on the rides and testing sites. This caused Theo to go into a depression so when his wife and daughter died, Theo starts to lock his only living family member away. Aaron is Theodore’s son and last remaining family member alive and Theo begins locking Aaron up in an attempt to protect him. When the police start to catch on (via Theo’s missing daughter poster and Aaron not making any public appearances like going to school and such) Theo abandons his home and hides Aaron in the museum, this is where we see them. Theo is willing to do *everything* and everything in his power to keep Aaron safe because he doesn’t want to lose anyone he loves ever again.
Not sure what’s going on with the neighborhood though… I mean, apart from the cult stuff.

One thing people have to understand is that games change. It’s not going to be the same experience as the old games.

I think what creeps me out about this game is it’s art style. All the characters look like they belong to a wholesome toddlers cartoon about friendship and learning. Yet the adults are fubar and kidnap kids for some evil cult. Like holy shit dude 0-0
I don't think they're a cult. I think the PC is a paranoid weirdo, maybe schizophrenic, and he's been causing trouble, spying on them, etc.
As a result, the town reacts poorly to him and they've all sort of bound together to repel him, which of course only made him think even more that something more was going on.
Finally he tries to kidnap the kid, thinking he's saving him from these crazy people, when he's actually the crazy one. Finally at the end he almost kills someone, so they knock him out and presumably arrest him.
The moment I said "what the dog doing?" at exactly the same time as IGP had me howling

Hello neighbour never knew what it wanted to be and that was my problem with it. It was basically a different game with different lore after every update. I can't speak for this one but hopefully it actually has a style and identity this time.

I see it as everyone in town has a secret to hide and they just dislike the main character because he's a snoop, and they just assume (correctly) that he'll eventually uncover or attempt to uncover their secrets.

In the books that kid is the neighbors son. He had killed the daughter in a accident. The neighbor in rage locked his son up. The main character in the first game was friends with the son and goes looking for him.

I remember how people were very disappointed in the full release of the first game. I feel like it just went off the rails too much and the gameplay suffered from it. The AI went from great to a joke do to the scope of the game growing. I feel like there were secrets just for the sake of secrets and to get MatPat to make more theory videos for publicity. It also doesn't help that it sorta kicked off the "children's horror game syndrome"
I know I felt a bit disappointed in seeing the direction Poppy's Playtime was going after the first chapter. Then there was the Bendy drama and after that FNAF Security Breach. Though for every mediocre horror game experience theres a ton of great indie ones that are genuinely disturbing.

for those who are confused as to what is happening here- you have to take into account the previous Hello Neighbor (all the Alpha and Beta build lore and the full game), Hide and Seek, and the Novels. (SPOILERS): The kid getting kidnapped at the beginning is Aaron (the Neighbor's son), if you remember in Hide and Seek, we see that the young boy Aaron, pushes his sister off of the roof, therefore ending her life. We also saw this in the nightmare sequences in the original game. Even "Hello Guest" with the theme park is all related to this plot point where Aaron accidentally kills his sister. But the Neighbor locked Aaron away thinking his son was a bad omen. The Neighbor blames his son for all the misfortune in his life (his failing theme parks and their disaster's, his wife's death, and then his daughter's death). But, not willing to lose the last bit of family he has, the Neighbor locks Aaron away. I theorize that adult Aaron becomes the crazy crow man we have seen in the Alpha builds. But guess we will just have to see. I also think this game will be in two parts like the original where the first part takes place AFTER Hide and Seek (which means it is a prequel to the first game) but that the 2nd part will take place in the future AFTER the events of the first game. :)

This game looked like a ton of fun and really well put together... but it just seemed... really short. I know they say their adding more content but it didnt seem like it was cut down too much and it only took an hour or so to play... 2 hours of content doesnt seem like much for a core game since while there is more quality content the first game had a lot more quantity

That seemed fun and I enjoy playthroughs of all the games but the lore might annoy me a bit, there's been such a drastic different from multiple alphas/beta/full releases of the first and now it seems like there's a ton of difference in alphas and the full on this. I get evolving a game to make it the best at launch but does ALL the alpha/beta stuff stay canon or get retconned by the full game? Maybe some could care less about the story but ya know lol
