RESTORATION BEGINS! What's Wrong With My 12 Year Old Aston Martin Vantage | PART 1

- The first ever Shmeemobile is back in the collection but being 12 years old, of course it is not perfect and there's some work to be done! Let's take a full tour through the car, bring back some memories, and plan out what needs to be done to restore it to former glory.
I first bought the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster in 2010, introducing it to the @Shmee150 channel and it gained the nickname of the 'Shmeemobile' for the first time. The very first video in which I spoke to camera was driving this exact car around central London, before it then appeared in adventures and road trips, going to numerous events and convoys, and really kick started everything that has happened since.
After recently finding the car and taking it for a test drive, when the owner made an offer to purchase it back the result was inevitable and it will now remain a permanent car in the garage. However, to ensure it looks the part, and being a 12 year old Aston Martin, there are a number of things that need some work.
Visually it's in pretty good shape, of course there are a few stone chips to the Glacial Blue paintwork, however it's overall very tidy. The wheels need refurbishment and for sure a new set of tyres as it still wears a set from 2011! The mirror arms have gone the way of many Vantages and the paint has corroded, while the interior has a little wear as you'd expect and can be easily repaired. Of course it also needs to be re-registered to the original 87 TB plate, which will be happening at the first possible opportunity!
It'll be a fun project to bring it back to how it was when I first bought it 11 years ago, because each and every time seeing it in the collection will be special and bring back memories of those early days.

Such a genuine and humble car guy. A lot of guys that get to the level of success that he has get into their head and think they deserve it. Props to you.
The clear taillights would be an improvement imo. With the yellow plate, blue paint and red taillights, there is quite a lot going on at the back that doesn't carry on anywhere else in the design.
Some things in life just "Don't" need fixing! The red tail lights are just fine as they are! 😜
This channel is absolutely amazing, I was with a friend at the weekend who is also a massive fan and we were talking about how great the facility is but also how relaxed the team and obviously Tim is. Absolutely fantastic job guys, keep it up!!!!

Good god that thing is mesmerising. You've always had a knack of picking out nice cars (the 675LT being a prime example) but this is a genuine timeless classic. The colour is perfect, much more elegant than the ever popular silver of the day, I can't believe anyone could see this combination and choose something else. I'm so happy for you that it's back in your hands.

WOW, the original Shmeemobile is BACK! How cool it is that you were able to obtain your original car back. Not a lot of folks can say that. I know many a people (myself included) that has sold a vehicle only to regret it later. When you absolutely love a car or have an emotional attachment to it, do yourself a favor, KEEP IT!

Great to see the old girl back, congratulations, Tim! The colour is lovely indeed. Just the right blend between striking and elegant. Not as in your face as a red or yellow would be, but not as plain as silver or grey. The little imperfections are to be expected of a decade old car, but overall she is in really nice shape. In my opinion, this generation of Aston Martins has some of the most beautiful cars they ever made (both the Vantage and the contemporary DB9/DBS as well). I like the looks more than the current cars. Can't wait to see the glacial lady completely restored :)

It’s deffo worth sorting out all the bits and bobs and will make good channel footage as it’s a vehicle more attainable that most of your others in Shmuseum 👍🏻
Perhaps you could pamper / spoil it and get the car a lovely titanium exhaust to really let it breath and sound even more sonorous and at the same time I believe you can update the gearbox software and thereby make it feel more modern and have quicker shifts etc ?? !!

Remember watching your early videos with this car driving round Hyde Park I think. I just love early Astons. I have an 05 DB9 with only 16k miles. They are simply gorgeous. You must be chuffed to have it back in your possession.

Back in the mid 2000s my favorite car in Test Drive Unlimited on my XBox was the AM DB9. And yes, I spec‘d it also in a light blue with seats in cream. Such a perfect colour combination that fits perfectly in that time and this type of cars.

Similar story with my old MkII Escort RS2000 which I sold over 30yrs ago......it appeared in a brochure for a car event, one of the organisers was able to put me in contact with the owner and I was able to go see the car....quite emotional!
