- I test whether or not you can hide from the long dick of justice behind an interior wall and provide my opinion on the wildly popular Taurus Judge. If you don't want to hear me talk about the gun skip to around 3:27.

Home defense is a legitimate argument no matter where you live. 000 Federal buckshot gets you 4 wound cavities per trigger pull, and I don't care how tactical you are, you're not waking up in the middle of the night being a marksman. Some spread doesn't hurt, especially when they do a lot of damage
Fair point. However if you live in a prison cell of an apartment and one of those projectiles doesn't hit your intended target you've potentially wounded a neighbor. But I suppose you could make that argument for almost any caliber or gauge

First problem I see, you were using bird shot. Most Judge owners use at least 00 buck, I use 000.
I bought one for the sole purpose of RV camper defense. I keep it loaded with #6 bird shot. The bird shot won't penetrate the walls. If I use one of my 9s, the round will penetrate my wall and the walls of the RV next door. I bought the extended length pistol grip from Taurus.
#4 shot seems to be a happy medium for me. Moderate shot size, lighter penetration, good spread. I have several family members in the house and don't want massive firepower going through walls or floors or ceilings. Same would probably apply in an apartment situation.
I agree Mike, I prefer shooting at a target that I can see, collateral damage equals a lawsuit.
#4 birdshot or #4 buckshot? If it's the #4 buckshot, I would agree. But #4 birdshot is just as crappy as the #6 birdshot he used.
Neither of those shotgun shells are designed to be fired from a handgun. If you use long gun shotgun ammo out of a handgun, birdshot and buckshot may not even go through their clothing. Also, if you're going to fire birdshot out of a very short, rifled barrel, you'd better be within four or five feet of your target, or you're not really gonna have any effect.
I shoot mine with regular 000 buck perfect for snakes also I use the winchester pdx defender rounds those are handgun rounds and are definitely powerful my barrel is longer than the one in this video but good gun for the woods does great against snakes but I also make sure to have atleast 3 45 long clots in it unless it's too cold for snakes than it's all 45 long colts. With that said it's not my choice for every day carry I carry my Smith and wesson 380 or 9mm when going out break the judge out in the woods or working on the farm with one of the other in my pocket just incase.
Good video and honest review. Thank you for doing it and putting those walls together to do the test. I own this gun, larger grip helps but you are right it’s a bedroom, car, and snake gun. Love mine it has its purpose. Thank you again for doing the review.

Federal 000 buck is the best ammo for this by far. Stack that against 9mm or a .380 round and see how layers of drywall compare.

My full size judge shot the federal 000 buckshot very well.
100% accurate. I shot some federal 000 buck at 7 yards at a target backed by a steel barrel filled with trash, snow and ice and after a full cylinder, at least 5 had penetrated.
Rifling often adds to spread of shot so I'm not sure I would choose it for that reason
Excellent experiment, I have the same poly judge it's awesome, also on a note those Remington 5/8 oz slugs work great out of it.
Don't bother with the slugs. Just use .45 colt. Way more muzzle energy and accuracy.

Nice sidebar on California. Agree that the stock grip on the Public Defender is crap. Get an aftermarket. Makes a huge difference. And the front sight is a joke. But it's still cool as all hell. Same goes for the S&W Governor, which can take 45 ACP with moon clips.
410 is R Go2 shotgun caliber ! Stationed twice in californica & was no fun or frolic @ all ! As a DAV got messed up shoulder,hand & 2 much metal N me 2 shoot anything more. Great info & site TY

It's extremely practical for a home defense gun loaded with copper plated buck and maybe two .45 LC in the last two chambers. Or a trail gun. That's what it was made for. It is very versatile. It was not made for conceal carry.
I know a couple of judges that carried in court. Not sure if that's legal, but was it a Taurus Judge?
Why would you use birdshot for your 410?.. Hornady has home defense rounds they are deadly

Probably but that would push it into the cold clutch of the nfa. Really the best round is the .45 long colt since it's intended to be shot through a rifled barrel.

I have the 3 inch and I have the 6.5 inch and I'm gonna tell you for home defense I only use the 3 inch but when I'm in the woods and I have to deal with coyotes and other creatures that 6.5 is my friend I did spring swap and I also did a grip swap on both way better gun after both were done
Hiya! Seems like the wall moves some when hit, unlike an affixed interior wall, so I think the wall absorbs some additional energy and might reduce the terminal energy or change the bullet trajectory. Just a thought.

I use 12ga Steel T loads for home defense. Trust me, you are dead at home defense range with 75 pellets in you.
Large birdshot works just fine.
The gun was not designed for birdshot and it should not be used. The shells tend to expand and get jammed in the cylinder. Use the correct ammo made for the gun.

you should look into the pachmayer grip for the judge i hear good things about it. i also bought a judge for fun. i want to test flares and dragons breath out.
The pachmayer grip is a game changer on this rig with a fobus paddel holster don't walk in the woods without it! 2no6 birdshot and 3 45lc in cilinder.

Bird shot with no wall as a shield will penetrate intruders. Other shots as well ofc. Lot of ADD comments on this gun for just about every video out there.
This young man doesn’t understand the difference between birdshot and buckshot. One is for intruders and the other is for snakes. Also the birdshot will come in handy if there is someone in your backyard and you wanted to scare the cat walking dog shit out of them but not kill them.
How about insulation?
Best way to insulate a wall this size is to stack cans of foam in a can and shoot them to fill between studs

Have to compliment you on your shooting Brother, your an awesome shot with that snubbie, we all know snubbie shots are a 50/50 less your 1/2 inch from target, course I’ve never shot a snubbie with a rifle barrel, but even then like you pointed out the gun barely fits in your hand, so mad respect on your shot groups. I’m a fan of the judge, I’m saving up the get the survivalist raging judge magnum revolver that comes with a thicken revolver cylinder with revolver inserts to shoot multiple different rounds 3 inch .410 shell 454 45 auto, 9mm, .22, .25, .32, .38, .357 magnum, .44 magnum, it’s the judge magnum 513 but the whole gun except handle is thickened for the purpose of some caliber’s I mentioned like .22 .25 .32 when fired probably won’t even touch the barrel & if they do it will be skip bounce out, I’ll try to find the video of it & post it here.

You are shooting crap rounds. The gun is not designed for birdshot. And the last round is a very badly designed round for the judge. Not accurate at all. Just don't buy that round. (I only practice at 25 yards) What you should be using is copper plated buck shot, Hornady .45 defense loads and maybe a smaller bb shot round.
The demonstration was very done and spoke very well for itself. However, the microphone problems and the crude and rude social comments were an unnecessary negative distraction to the credibility of an otherwise excellent demonstration. In short, stay focused and stick to the purpose and the technical side of the demonstration. That's what CZcams watchers really care about.

I have that poly. And I Cary 45colt. I don't use ooo shot or rip pellet fire dragon. I wanted this pistol for penetration. For big zombies or zombies carrying bulletproof vest I can take them down for the headshot.

As an owner of this gun for many years, I would highly recommend it for anyone for self defense. I bought mine slightly used, so it had an "extended" grip if that's what you want to call it. Even further than 30', the Critical Defense is extremely tight. The fact that it is so versatile and can use a huge range of ammo is a definite advantage. Going hiking in snake country? Load it with bird shot. Hiking in mountain lion country? Load it with Critical Defense, 000 buckshot or even .45 LC. Going hiking in bear country? Pack a .454 Casull. hehe To be fair, you can buy Buffalo Bore .45 300 gr 1,300 FPS rounds for this bad boy. Haven't tried them, but that's pretty hot. For the right price, you certainly wont be disappointed!
They now make moonclip's for the judge so you can also shoot 45acp rounds I have the judge with the 3 inch barrel it's pretty nice I dont go in the woods without it.
