    This gun is actually an essential own in my opinion. Whether you live in an apartment in Chicago or in the swamp & snake country of Louisiana. No handgun is more versatile.

    Federal 410 handgun buckshot completely transforms its performance. 7 inch spread at 25 yards! Four 36 calibers that do 17 inches on gel. That's 4 chances to strike a vital w 1 trigger pull.

    Just bought one. The 3 inch barrel 3 inch chamber. Bought it primarily for snakes and other varmints.

    Good stuff, I'm one of the guys that love this gun. I've had 4 of them ranging from the snub nose 2.5 inch chamber up to the 6.5 inch 3 inch chamber. They definitely work, and i agree with ammo selection you picked out, but one other I'd add is the hornady critical defense with a 41 caliber slug and 2 00 buck pellets behind it. My personal gun can make hits with it out to about 35 yards with relative ease, but 20 yards and in is the sweet spot for this gun. I use the 6.5 inch magnum as an option for home defense but also out in the woods alot. Theres so many things it's good for, I use it while out on the trap line with some 22lr adapters, while campin, as a sidearm while huntin or fishin. Ive takin squirrels, rabbits, a raccoon and 2 coyotes with mine. It's a great weapon that doesnt get enough love.

      Good stuff! I have a box of those Hornadys but have never tried them. I bet they would be awesome out of a Circuit Judge or short barrel single shot .410! Thanks for watching!!

    I agree. I own a judge myself, and love it. As far as a double action revolver in 45 colt, that's affordable, there's always the Charter Arms Bulldog. I have one of those too.

    The perfect walking the woods gun. Or tossing in the 4-wheeler. Yes, I’ve nailed a hog with one using 000 buck. Just don’t expect a lot of damage with tiny #8 shot from a 3” barrel.
    Would consider it as a nightstand gun, but not as a urban carry piece.

    I agree with you, The Judge and the Governor really shine as bedside buckshot pistols. Primarily with the Federal Buckshot. It is surprising how after more than a decade of testing .410 ammo in pistols so many CZcams videos still get it wrong.

      @@mikeprice8307 Federal hasn't done a run of it for a long time apparently. Only place I can find it is on Gunbroker on occasion and sometimes it'll popup on Ammoseek searches. I've heard rumors of Federal having it available on their site at times, but have yet to see it. Hopefully it'll be plentiful again soon and back on store shelves.

      @@HillbillyMusings that sucks. I feel stupid paying 1k for a gun now that ain't worth ish unless one company's ammo is used. That is ridiculous of them and I wonder why they won't release it?

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  Před rokem +1

      @@mikeprice8307 I feel your pain! Keep in mind, you can always use good old fashioned .45 Colt in it, no one in their right mind will question the stopping power of that one IMHO. You may also try calling Federal too, maybe they will disclose the next manufacture date of that good stuff.

    I have a Judge Poly Defender and a Pietta Californian , when not using my hand loads Winchester Super X 255 gr are a very good choice. You may consider rolling your own. Good purchase. Only other affordable 45 double action ? Charter Arms Bulldog XL 45 colt mid $400. Yeah I'm not a fan of gimmic, .410 for defense.

    Great review & the Hornady Critical Defense is a good round in 45 or any bullet caliber.......However, I wonder how that extra cylinder length affects the the efficiency/velocity of of any bullet due to the distance before the forcing cone/rifling ?

    • @HillbillyMusings
      @HillbillyMusings  Před rokem

      Good thought, I bet it hinders it due to the oversized cylinder diameter vs bullet diameter. I wound imagine this leads to extra gasses being lost? Be an interesting comparison if someone had the means to do it. Thanks for watching!

    Love the Public Defender my Dad left to me. It fires Federal Premium buckshot and Winchester PDX flawlessly. Hornady Critical Defense is a fail in mine though. In 3 boxes of 20, 5-10 in each would expand so much that it would jam locking the cylinder closed. I’d have to wait until they cooled enough to force the cylinder open. Had it checked and test fired with different brands by a gun smith and he said my Judge is fine, but that ammo in it is not.

    I wouldn't mind a modernized version of the LeMat actually. With current bullet technology along with the single shotgun round you can switch to, that'd be a hell of a nice revolver.

    I'm aware this video is about a year old, but regarding 410 ammo, what do you think is more common at your local shop, or online as far as length? 2.5 or 3 inch. I've been weighing the public defender vs the "magnum" designation, and if 3 inch is reasonable to find it might sway my decision.

    I bought the Judge Poly Public Defender for one purpose. Self defense at night in my travel trailer when in a crowded RV park. (I'd still have my Sig P365 xl). The only way in is the single door, and I KNOW I don't have a clear background. There's a camper there with a family sleeping, 20 feet away. The Judge allows me to hit the intruder point blank in the face with 7 1/2 bird shot. Hopefully blinding him, with no chance of killing a child in the next camper. Theoretically. follow up rounds can be something else, but I once had a negligent discharge in my camper, and I know how dangerous that is in an RV park.
