    I have the Judge and the P.D. poly, as well as an S&W Governor. I love this 45/410 configuration. The Pachmeyer Diamond grip is an excellent aftermarket replacement for the stock Taurus grip.

    Also, the Hogue monogrip for tracker/judge will work for a full size grip. Only thing is u have to get a longer grip screw. M4 .7x 40mm. If it's longer than 40mm the hammer will not operate because when u pull it, it will hit the end of the screw on the inside of the grip. Other than that, it will give u a full grip and a better handle on it.

    There are a lot of people who view the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor as gimmick guns, I did as well but bought one for the fun of it. While I dismiss it as a carry gun because of it's size, in my opinion it is not a gimmick. Shooting Nobel Sport 3 ball .40 buck it will shoot about an 8 inch 5 shot group at 7yds. That's 15 .40 cal holes in an eight inch area in five shots. I'm no expert, and am not claiming this is what you should shoot, but shooting it and finding ammo that it liked, proved to me it has it's place.

    • @yankeecowboy

Kind of disappointed that it did not come with the 2 grips that her previous Public Defender did, and it came with some funky front sight cover (cool but not needed). Will definitely upgrade the grip but seems like a well built version and looking forward to it! Great review and keep it up!!

I have just purchased the dark earth polymer, mostly based upon this channel (thank you!) and I like his colorization ideas, but wondering what is used to hold up to the firing shock and wear which naturally occurs with a gun? I enjoy your videos, and especially appreciated your comments on this Taurus Public Pefender. My wife and I are thinking about getting one of these, or the Judge itself, as a snake gun around our property, and for home defense. Have you shot the Judge so you can do a comparison? It seems to me that the greater weight on a steel frame might lessen the recoil, and a longer chamber (e.g. 3") in would allow for shooting longer shells. Which one of these Taurus revolvers to buy is a hard decision! Any thoughts?

    • @yankeecowboy
      @yankeecowboy  Před 6 lety

      Tim Sawyer thanks Tim, I'm not very sensitive to recoil regardless the caliber but I have shot the steel version and I prefer the poly because I do carry it. I don't think you can go wrong with either but if your wife is going to use it you may want the poly for the lighter weight. Hope my 2 cents helps. Feel free to ask any questions

    • @yankeecowboy
      @yankeecowboy  Před 6 lety

      Also the chamber length really don't come into play unless it's 6 or more inches. Most people don't realize you lose so much from it escaping from the cylinder on a revolver.

      @timsawyer7443 Před 6 lety

      1yankeecowboy thanks for the prompt reply! At 6' 1", my wife is definitely not "manly", but she's not a little prissy thing either. The weight issue is not as big as the recoil issue for her. We shot 410 out of my sister's polly Public Defender, and my wife really disliked the recoil. I can't get my hands on a steel Judge of any kind to actually shoot and get a feel for, so I can't make a decent comparison. :-(

      I’m sure it’s not the best gun for grizzly bears but I had to have something, and it was half the price of the Alaskan Redhawk. Please tell me an exact bullet type I need for bears. Thank you so much

    I've read a couple of reviews that indicated that the frame either broke or showed stress cracks after firing. I'm considering this revolver, I really appreciated your review, have you encountered anything like stress issues in the frame from your experience?

      1yankeecowboy yeah I'm sure it is what it is I have one of the original editions of it maybe they updated it but the guy I spoke to at customer service said it's a common return service luckily I have other firearms so it's not my only one but the turnaround is supposed to be 9 weeks the only reason why I shipped it out is because picked up a Smith & Wesson Governor for 550 a customer bought it from the shop I work at and returned it following Monday he said I was a little too much

    Great review! I just got back from a gun show and tried to buy one but being a Sunday show the background check was not working or taking forever so I could not get it. (Another way that Uncle Sam regulates sales at gun shows) That said, I had not even considered this gun before, but since I have a CJ Rifle chambered the same, it will make for a perfect gun when the rifle is not at hand. So pleased that you showed the two tone one, the dark earth...wow....sharp. Oh...please color fill it gold...that would look awesome. Like I said, I had not seen it so now watching this review I am more confident in my purchase.
    Kudos....

    What do you think about bird shot through it for snakes? I live in the sticks and run into copper heads all the time. I have the PD in FDE, btw.

      Phillip Carr no use for bird shot through this revolver but if you were at very close range it may do it but spread is super wide with bird shot.

    So many people buy Taurus guns and then use the wrong ammo, then complain about jams and parts breaking. I carry a PT 111 G2 I use Hydro-shoc that Taurus said was a perfect bullet for that gun. +p is a no no. Have you ever tried Federal 4:10 ammo in the PD?

    you infer that birdshot isnt very effective, but ive found it to be very. I have a public defender as a camp gun/backpack gun. I load one 4 shot from federal, two triple defense and two 45 colt. I have shot this gun a lot, and for practical usage, i have used the birdshot(4shot) the most by far. Many a rabbit or squirrel and many a snake have gone down to my public defender. Gladly i have never needed to use the 45 or triple defense, which i have for bears, or the human. That being said, the public defender is the best gun ive ever owned. Only problem i have is that some rounds have an expansion issue and lock up the cylinder. Only had this issue with the federal loads
