  • Two craft shows, one week apart and on the first show we sold ALL of our coasters.
Fabulous and not so fabulous at the same time, because now I need to make a heap more.
I'm going to try two different approaches, one will make edge grain Coasters and the other will make End Grain Coasters.

New subscriber here. Great stuff! Love the dialogue and the presentation in general. I will do some video binging on your channel. Also, it appears that you have a very enjoyable time in your shop...especially while spreading glue!

Love your videos, when you sand the bevel on your jig i think you can get a perfect bevel every time if you include a stop at the bottom, just glue one on the bottom push it in to the sander until you get it to where you need and its a perfect jig, bevels exactomondo lol

    Hi Graham
I've not ventured into the world of coasters yet but possibly something for the dreaded Christmas season (I cant believe I just mentioned the C word) but I agree the end grain version is the way to go, really pleased the show went well, best of luck with number 2
    Best Wishes
    David

I find that end-grain coasters can be harder to keep looking nice.
The mug rings are harder to remove, as they can soak into the grain.
Edge-grain coasters can be sealed with a wax-oil and wiped clean.
Customers might be less likely to repurchase anything else, if their end-grain coasters start to look a bit less smart.

Nice comparison of the methods! Can I ask, what finish did you use? Looked like mineral oil or wipe-on poly maybe?

Hi Anna, bang on, mineral oil. 👍
