Not knowing him at all obviously this needs to be taken with a gram of salt, but it’s what I think is why he is so passionate about weathering and details, because the objects he invests his time in, tells a story!

@@tbird81 There's absolutely no evidence Adam did it, so stop saying he did do it. His sister's allegations are very bizarre and frankly don't make much sense. I don't want to discuss the details here, but I find it hard to believe a 9 year old Adam could do stuff this horrific and then on top of that display understanding of his actions by calling himself a certain moniker. 9 year olds aren't capable of this kind of stuff and don't have this kind of understanding, unless they've been molested themselves, and even then it's questionable.

Whatever the truth, I hope justice prevails. If Adam did do this stuff, he should be held accountable to the extent the law punishes 9-12 year olds for sexual crimes. If she is making this up, she should be held accountable as an adult trying to defame someone.

I attended an e-learning conference in Las Vegas where Adam was the key note speaker. I was dressed as Jamie. I admit, I'm a fanboy. I arrived 45 minutes early so I could get a front row seat. I had no idea that my cosplay would create such a buzz. I spent the entire 45 minutes taking pictures with conference attendees who thought I was Jamie. The conference director even came up and thanked me for coming and said how nice of a surprise it was.
My cover was blown when Adam mentioned that he just left Jamie in another state and here he was. He laughed about it. That 45 minutes was amazing and fun. When someone asked for an autograph, I told them who I really was. The time I spent meeting people who thought I was an actual celebrity was intoxicating but I can see how it could be a bit tiring after a while.

Same here! The weird thing is, there wasn't actually a lot of explicit science on Mythbusters. They didn't go out of their way to explain the theory behind stuff they doing; that wasn't the point of the show. Instead, they would just do the most amazing things, build the coolest stuff, reproduce the most ridiculous effects, and throughout it all they'd just keep referring to science as though it were some behind-the-scenes magic. I don't know why, but that fired up my scientific curiosity in a way that few other things did. The idea that somewhere, there was a treasure chest full of tricks and methods and concepts that you could just, like, learn-and it would enable you to manipulate the world in the COOLEST ways, letting you build crazy robots and blow stuff up and make cars fly! I mean, what could possibly be more interesting to a geeky little kid than that???

All I would want from meeting adam would be to tell him what his work meant to me and how he shaped me. Prefacing by saying I don't expect anything, his work is done, and I don't mean to put undue pressure, but mythbuster's brand of "Stop arguing and go find out. Be smart." just...wow. It's a core of my being. I wouldn't be me without mythbusters.
You know, once a year or so, I watch all the episodes again. Back to back. And I cry every god damn time.

One thing about "being famous" is also those of us that know "people of popularity" think about how we would want to be treated as well. I've known someone that was part of a popular PBS show, and while many would love to email/contact and meet this person, I tend to know what the 'other side' of their life is like and appreciate that, yes, we are ALL human and not some god to put on a pedestal. They have families, and arguments, and sick pets they miss, and can't figure out setting up a home wifi network or need a reliable contractor that won't rip them off, or buy something because their friend has one as well.
So Thank you for this, Mr. Savage. And thank you patreons that come up with these great questions!

You are a beautiful soul Adam! I was lucky enough to have been a guest in the show and after the episode has been shot, had the chance to meet you. I asked you a question about a maker problem I was trying to solve, and got to see that brain of yours turn on like the sound of a beautiful Shelby Cobra!!! It was a curiosity, and kindness of time and attention that forever left an impression and an example of not letting fame get to your head.
Keep lighting that flame inside of yours and others hearts!!

We talked for a minute about the fossils in the floor tiles of one of the Capitol Buildings which I saw on his IG (after I totally fan boy freaked out.) I am here to tell you Adam Savage is as graceful and amazing of a human being in that brief window of connection as you can imagine.

My wife and I attended one of these behind the scene events with Adam and Jamie a few years back. My wife had gotten the premium tickets for my birthday, because, well, it's the Mythbusters. I was too awestruck to strike up a conversation, but my wife promptly launched into thanking Adam for pointing out how the show helped out with making science interesting and accessible to her students. Adam's face transformed, and next thing I know the two have launched into a full conversation regarding things such as the "Things I Won't Work With" website, lab safety, etc. It was definitely an epic experience!

I always watched the show, but just started watching these and this might be my favorite so far. It has to be difficult emotionally and mentally to be met with familiarity by total strangers. Many of us feel like we know you, but you do not know US. Kudos to the epiphany and for you changing your behavior in light of it. Also, it reminds me of a story The Rock told on his Instagram about a fan interaction and the realization he had about making someone's day with his occasional minor inconvenience. He had a similar epiphany and it seems like he now finds joy and pleasure in something that's often a major negative to fame. Nice company you're keeping there Adam!

Adam, I've always liked you because of your curious mind and the energy you brought to Mythbusters. My husband, our two sons and I would watch as often as possible and just drink up the science, the trials and errors and the laughter. Our "Things 1 and 2" are grown now, but we still enjoy talking about various episodes. Watching you now on YT provides a sort of connection to those days. Your honesty to today's question solidifies my impression of you... That you're a genuine and warm-hearted person. Thank you for your hard work then and now. Best wishes from New Hampshire.

The greatest way I have EVER heard this put was by the GREAT Mark Hammill on meeting fans... To paraphrase, he put it this way "I have met fans worldwide, MANY many times, and been asked the same questions MANY many times...but THIS fan right here, this is their FIRST time meeting someone that means SOO much to them, they have never done this before. So I enjoy each interaction, because THEY will remember this the rest of their lives...do I want them to remember me as some jerk that blew them off, or do I want to smile and let them remember me they way they HOPED I would be." I loved that response, and I Know thats not EXACTLY how he put it, but thats the spirit of it! I would LOVE to me Adam someday =)

I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a famous person. What you were saying at the end is so true. To you, I will be someone that you will most likely never meet, never talk to, never interact with, etc., yet for me, you've been in my home for over 15 years. Your in my DVD collection, on my youtube notifications, etc. And yet, I can say with relative certainty, that I had probably a very close reaction of sadness and grief as you did when learning about Grant. I can totally see where that dynamic can be tough on your mind.

My dad was one of the most famous people in Quebec, he was on TV and did a radio show for over 55 years. I so understand the restaurant thing, we would try to eat but everyone came up to see him. Years later I would be dressed up for a "magic the gathering" party and my dad insisted on going to eat first. He was thrilled that no one came to the table. My mom was mortified to be seen with me... as I was dressed in full makeup and costume like a knicker.

I am on a propmaking website that Adam is on, and years ago he put out a message-Jaimie and I are touring, if you are a member here and we are coming to your town, lemme know and I'll shoot you some tickets! So I let him know, he hooked me up-tickets, autographs, backstage passes and the meet-and-greet. We all stood in line and got to shake their hands, and when I got up to him I thanked him for the tickets. He asked me if I had gotten them through the prop website, and when I said yes, his eyes lit up and said. "What are you working on now?" As he says, that made my day. Thanks Adam!
