One Picket - 3 Wooden Snowflakes - Make Money Woodworking

- 70 cents!?!?! Yep. I'll show you how to build two different designs of these 16" snowflakes and grow your woodworking business with Holiday Woodworking Projects That Sell! After multiple prototypes, I figured out a way to get 3 - 16" snowflakes out of one fence picket (Design 1)!
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things... while the most profitable items we look past. Let's change that.

Best woodshop teacher EVER! Not only are you easy to follow, you are encouraging too!
Yes, I'm a lady woodworker!
Thank you! We are a pretty awesome community!
Good morning, thank you for all these instructions, I am 66 and struggling with debt, my husband has tools that I can learn to use and make these. I want to try this, maybe I can make some money and be able to afford groceries. Thank you so much
You can do this!
If you want a fast way to stain small bits, put them into a mess bag or a strainer of some sort (window screen) and dunk the whole bunch into the stain. BAM! you're done.
Excellent vIdeo, excellent productions and excellent motivational talk at the end. I make rustic sleds for Christmas craft shows. Your last couple of videos have given me some ideas for some complimentary items to make and sell. Thanx for your presentations.
Good idea!
I’m glad to help!
Question- After you dunk the small parts into the stain with a strainer or whatever, do you still take the time to wipe off the excess stain?
@@christianackley7147 I would recommend
I love them! I just built one of your planter boxes today (for a Christmas tree). I was so easy with your list of parts in the description. Thank you so much. I am a 56-year-old woman who has NEVER built anything out of wood before your videos.
I'm not to the point of selling anything yet, but so far, EVERY one of your projects I've made gets a high rating from my wife (better than money). Thank you!
Made my first snowflake last night :) wife loved it. A side note to those who may have a miter saw like me (maybe mine is just old) my miter saw does not move to a 50 degree angle - little disappointed at first but was able to move forward using the table saw guide bar and setting it to 50 degrees - set the rip fence to the desired width and was able to make quick repeatable diamonds. ***Matthew P. your doing great, love the channel by far my favorite woodworking channel to watch, keep it up you have many fans!
I was having the same problem, and you gave me the answer. Thanks so much.
Had the same issue. Rigged up a fence on the 90 degree plan and used the 40 degree miter as the compliment is 50 degrees. However, this is not very repeatable and my diamonds did not turn out as perfect diamond. But for personal holiday décor, these will be great.
Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for this page. I’ve always wanted to get my boys involved in woodworking and they stumbled across your page and you have sparked their interest. They are building the snowflakes out of old fence pickets and are going to donate them to a thrift store, where the money from the sales will help shelter abandoned animals.
I bought the plans very detailed and easy to follow. As a Pastor I plan on building one of these for every family at church for a Christmas present this year.
What a great video, Matthew! Inspiration levels piqued! Thank you for your time and effort, I love this one!
Awesome! Thank you Matthew for sharing such great ideas and tips on how to build them!
Cant wait to build the snowflakes and the trellis! Great job Matt. Enjoying the videos!
Thanks Matt. Just picked up the plans. Looking forward to making some for the season.
Thanks for inspiring! I'm excited to make these in my free time! I'll have the wife use her creativity and stain the parts for me! I've made 2 spiral trees so far, and picked up stock for the "garden tower". I love your ideas and I love working with wood!
These are so awesome! Your encouragement for people throughout is great. I’m a mental health therapist and I can attest to the fact that it’s the negative self talk, not the ability or talent to do something, that keeps people from ever trying! Good word man!
Thanks! I'm not a therapist... but I am a realist. The mind is a powerful thing... and you can choose to use that power for negative or positive things. Sometimes folks just need a lil reminder that we all go through rough patches and we are our worst critics... believe in yourself! I believe in everyone watching or I wouldn't work 14 hours a day 7 days a week doing this.

I am New to woodworking started as a hobby and fell in love with it. And I just wanted to say your helpful woodworking projects are AMAZING 🙏🏽
Love how you do/edit these videos 👊🏽
I really appreciate all of your videos! You are very helpful and informative!
Hey Matthew , just wanted to take some time out of my day to thank you for this awesome video and to let you know your putting an extra couple of Christmas presents under someone’s tree. 🎅🏼🎄Thank you so much for all that you do!
As a mechanic by trade, woodworking has always been a passion of mine. Just a thanks for taking your time and effort to produce your videos, they have been an encouragement to step out in that direction. Well done.
Another nice build, very precise instructional video as always, you are a godsend to various people, some who just need to new start others who just need something to do. Thanks Matthew for producing nice videos for us all.
This was great. I always look forward to Sunday morning before church. Had a lot of orders for the spiral trees from 18" to 36". Now for snowflakes these are great. Thanks again for the great ideas. I stay in trouble because of you....
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Snowflakes are like people. Not two ones are the same. The template for holding the parts is perfect. This project will be on my to-try list.
You really are the most inspiring woodworker I’ve ever found on CZcams. I’m about 6 months before I can start building. But this is definitely on tap for next year. I have one word to say…glitter. That would be my personal tweak. Thanks for every video you make!
Thank you. The last two minutes meant the most to me.
Love ur videos. Thank you for breaking it down and showing us how to do these projects. Keep it up.
Thank you Matthew for the walkthrough / specs. Just hosted a craft night with my wife's friends and had them decorate then assemble the first design you showed. I ended up doing a triple half lap joint to reduce the amount the snowflake stuck out from the wall. Didn't add anything to the cost but certainly added to the time to cut out the pieces.
I'm so glad you clarified "fence picket". Thanks, Matthew!
I need to get a new blade for my miter saw. Then I am definitely making these! Even if its just for myself. I do farmers market in the summer. Mostly quilted items. But a lot of your maker items would compliment my current booth nicely! And added benefit, my husband doesn't mind doing the cutting for me when Im building. He could have a nice stack for me when I get home from work and I could sand, stain, and assemble while I watch TV. 👍😊
Awesome video and wonderful advice. Thank you so much for your inspirational ideas!
You're a legend mate! Just left the hardware store, was about to buy some dressed pine for $14. Remembered to go check out the fence pickets! Bought the same thing for $4 keep it up buddy, love your videos
Great idea Matthew. Love it and love watching your channel.
I love this so much. Everything about this video is awesome. I have some snowflakes glued up right now.
Another great video to demonstrate ways of being creative and make a profit with the small items
Thank you for pep talks and super projects!! I'm in love with these snowflakes!!! Keep it up ❤from Topeka!
Thank you for the pep talk at the end. Love the snowflakes too. Thanks for all the great videos.
Of course, I’m glad to do it.
Thanks for the video! I've made several now. Love them!
Matthew this is just awesome. I've just spent the last three days getting my workshop set up to use again after ignoring it all summer. I'm not the most creative guy but have a great background in many trades. I have 40 pickets and an equal amount of recycled crate wood. Today I'll be getting stain and next week will be batching out some of your ideas. In time I'll smooth the process.
The key for my interest in your projects is how you break them down.
Keep up the inspiring work!
I couldn't agree more with you Matt. great video
Glad I ran across these and will definitely give them a try. Love your designs and tips and the way you provide info (materials list, tool data, etc.) in above description including etsy shop. Great job!
Thank you for all the support.
I love your videos and passion to help us learn. I would love to see your version of a stand up cross to go along with the holidays. I feel like I need to be making these. Have a great weekend.
Positive words and great motivation. I’m going to grab some pickets and try hitting my local markets. Wish me luck
You are so awesome sir. Thank you is just words, you are a very generous man. 😊
Matt, your videos are amazing! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouragement. I can't wait to get in the shop after watching each of your videos! If you're ever in NJ, Look me up. I've got you covered for lunch or dinner!
Awesome channel! Thank you for sharing the knowledge and time. Very inspiring!
Matthew, thank you for your videos. You have very helpful tips and great ideas.
Thank you Matthew. You are amazing!
It seems to me that it would work well to make the vertical snow flake arm extend longer to fit into a stand so it could fit on a mantel. Then, since it is getting a prominent display area, you could also put a little silver leaf on it to make it really upscale. If made from something like balsa wood, it could even be a tree topper. Thanks for the inspiration,
I love your videos! I’ve built three Christmas trees for my kids! They’re adults now lol Thank you for all your inspiration! I’m going to try the snow flakes now!
Thanks Cindy! No problem and heck yea!
Thanks Matthew, I am going to attempt this design with some spare pieces I have
Found your site recently. Just the kind of woodworking I want to do. I also like working with fence pickets for various projects. Really enjoy you content and approach. Keep up the good work.
At this point I feel like I just need to buy a pallet of fence pickets so they're dry and ready to go since you repeatedly bring new fun ideas for us to make. Sunday mornings are always a highlight when your videos drop.
I'm starting from scratch with my litte workshop`because I want to live of woodworking, this is great and Im going to try to do it. I did the spiral tree, was a little challenging cause Im still learning and I think it took me a litte longer that it should and did some mistakes. But its a learning curve. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You have inspired me Matthew!! I'm new to woodworking and have bought a bunch of gear. I'm fortunate to have family that owns a large antique/craft store. I'm going to make 36 of these along with other of your Christmas goodies and make some extra cash. In 3 years I hope to make enough cash to buy a paramotor trike so I can see the world from different perspective. Thank you for all these great ideas!!!
You are bad ass. I love how you just get right to it. Most people spend way too much time talking about stuff I don't need to know. Perfect trainer for people who have no attention span. Lol Thank you
I've been watching your channel for a while now and my mind is overwhelmed with ideas. I have always been an outside-the-box thinker and creator. I'm a deck and screen porch builder with an endless supply of scrap wood and PVC products. I am powering up my first-ever wood shop this week and am still in the setup and design phase and tool collecting. I have to finish my own kitchen remodel first and then I will be balls to walls making stuff. I have some ideas for leftover 6in vinyl sleeves. as well as many other items. I was in the Imprinted sportswear business for a short 10 years before coming back to what I am best at so there are some crossover ideas I have. I wish I had some of that equipment. (vinyl cutters, heat presses, and such) The sky is the limit and you're truly only limited to your own time and desire to create. In my area, there is endless home-building communities and you can dumpster dive for material as well. It is unbelievable what they throw away.
That´s awesome man. Enjoy what you do! And good luck
Amazing snowflakes! They will look fantastic on your Peech tree!
As always..another awesome project...❤ I snagged a mask, filters and 2 pair safety goggles...Ty for the discount...They are having a great deal on the ear protection also...
Love it, weekend project, thanks for sharing brother 🤘😎
I love all of your videos. I am 72 and retired. I was looking for something simple to make for a Christmas craft show I participate in every year. These were so easy and turned out great. Looking forward to making other smalls from your videos. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I have a HUGE collection of wood I collected from work. This gives me so much inspiration to get my wood shop cleaned up and going again. Subscribed so I can watch all of your videos. All the wood I have is just like what you use. I have access to oak poplar cherry and even walnut.
Great video. Inspiring at the end as well. "The only people in this world who fail are those who never try." Keep up the good work.
Thanks Brian! And that's a motto a live by. "The only things that you know you can't do are the things you're too afraid to try"
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Another one is an ancient one. "He who says he can and he who says he can't are usually both right."
I dig it!
Your words are true. I know this because I used to be able to work in my shop and produce. I was in an auto accident years ago and slowly but surely my minds ability to focus disappeared and now I have a shop full of toys and can not focus long enough to use them. LOL I laugh but I tell ya it is probably one of the most frustrating hurdles in my life. I keep coming back to this channel because he has a way of "calming" that and allows me to feel like I can still do it... I have not done it yet but the inspiration is nice.
@@Nowayjose-vd1wm you will never know until you go and try. Maybe it takes you longer to build something but so what. When Matthew puts up these video's I am like ok so it took him 10 minutes then I am looking at closer to 30 or 40 minutes, as i don't have a shop to work out of just my little shed i keep everything in. So I have to pull everything out as i need it. I have a little 10x10 concrete pad i work at in front of my shed. If it is bad weather then nope not going to be doing anything lol. So go and give it a try man. And don't forget to let us know how you did. In the immortal words of the crazy guy( Rob Schneider) from Water Boy..... YOU CAN DO IT,
Wonderful advice and creative ideas as akways. God bless you for sharing with us all. 🙏✝️🇺🇸
You the Man. Im always looking for new Vids from you buddy. Thanks for sharing Your ideas & knowledge.
Hey! Thank you.
Another amazing video! These snowflakes are beautiful! I love watching your videos because you are very inspiring and explain everything so us beginners can understand! Thank you for all of your amazing videos!!
Thank you. I try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
If you realy want to make these, but your apartment limits that, look for a makerspace in your area. They will have the tools, you just rent the time.
Matthew as always a great video! Thank you.
Any time!
The more I watch your videos the more I respect and appreciate what you are doing. Thank You
Thanks so much for all the support.
I'm new at woodworking but I love doing these builds, you break it down so it's easy to do. My wife loves all the things I've built so I guess I don't get extra money til she gets all her's built. (Or she runs out of room to put things.)
Thank you for the pep talk at the end! I needed to hear that. I have been wanting to start but the I can’t talk has stopped me!
Yes! Going to use magnets to mount on the garage door 👌
I use the Axil ear plugs since I’m a LEO and figured they work on the range they would work for the shop. I love them because they don’t mess with my glasses and they are so comfy I forget I’m wearing them half the time. Running my table saw I can still hear my music playing.
Heck yea. Agree completely. Thats how I came to wear mine as well. Perfect for both!
Hello Matthew. Lar here from 🇨🇦. I love the “JUST POP OUT THAT GLUE BOOGER”. Made me damn near wet my pants. Nice ideas as usual. Truly appreciate all the work you go through making these videos. I bought myself a pair of the Axil headphones because I seen your review you did on them at the beginning of one of your videos. The best purchase I have made in a while. To all your viewers, don’t hesitate to purchase these Axil headphones, they work as good as Matthew says.
Hey Lar! Well... I tend to make up a lot of my own names for things in the shop... must be the hillbilly in me. lmao. And I will only promote brands that I use and believe in. And Axil is one of them. Glad that you picked a set up!
Thank you so much for these videos!I've been getting into woodworking as a side thing to supplement my job as an electrician to provide for my family, and these videos are making me want to try so much more! I just made a bunch of pallet Christmas trees. They're my first product I'm attempting to sell :)
Hey. We’re you able to sell your trees? I made a few, but didn’t paint. Looks nice, but pine isn’t the best look!!
@Kevin Buchanan Sure did! :) sold maybe 40. People loved them. Made probably $700 profit in the month leading up to Christmas. I just made an ad on Facebook marketplace for them
Hi there Matthew. I trained as a toolmaker and as such I learned 2 things that has stayed with me for all my life. Making jigs and back engineering. If anyone likes the look of something my suggestion is get one and strip it down. Firstly you will see how it goes together and you will have the parts to make jigs from. Love your work and love your feed
Once again a fantastic build! I'm two builds behind. I want to make the two trees, the spiral and the gray paint and natural one
This guy teaches real and concise ways of making a living to anyone who will give him little over 15 minutes of their time...
You blow my mind Matthew...
A ton of woodworking CZcamsrs make these "Make Money" videos, but yours are the best by far.
Honestly.
Love your vids! Love your attitude! I give anyone credit for trying.
Will definitely make some for myself with hardwood scrap!
These are awesome I've loved woodworking all my life worked with some true masters when it came to trim carpentry and small woodworking projects well it payed off I had built a tiny home a few yrs back but never got it finished in February of this yr there was a electrical short in a surge.protector and my house burned to the ground! My fellow firefighters had a fudraiser auction for help with materials well with the help of a couple of my fellow firemen I'm 56 and the youngest of the 3 guys that helped we totally rebuilt my 16x36 tiny home in less than 3 months and it looks wonderful found a ceder mill a few miles from my house and got really creative with the interior it was a intimidating project for sure! but the satisfaction of building it yourself is absolutely amazing!!! Thanks for what you do teaching others your craft!!! P.S. don't ever be afraid to attempt anything life throws at you!! God bless!!
These are awesome! Thank you for the great video and directions!
Awesome snowflakes. You make it look so easy.
Thanks for your video. I had three new (used only once) pallets from a roof job. I chopped them up and used some of the wood to make 10 of the more simple design. Hopefully they’ll sell.
Awesome projects and awesome motivational speech thanks
Gorgeous decorations!!
Thanks!
Another great video and great instruction. thank you.
Thank you for your wisdom it helps me a lot just wanted to let you know.
Why are you awesome and inspirational??!!! I love it!!!!
Thanks Matt! I made them and used AC glue instead of brads. Then i added fairy lights and people loved them. $2 each total!
These are so cool and simple. Thanks for the video.😊
AMAZING ! Great video with explanation.. continue your creativity.
Thank you.
❤ I am really impressed with your handymanship 🎉
Excellent video! Thanks a lot!
You should be a motivational speaker!!!
Great job!! Thank you😊
Love these snowflakes and I am going to give it a whirl. I am thinking great idea for Christmas gifts as I said this year I will be doing handmade gifts.
Great video! Love them!
Nicely done. Beautiful
Thanks!
I sincerely appreciate you!
Just saw your video on tiktok and immediately came to CZcams to subscribe. I've been looking for something to do in my shop and these are perfect. Thank you for your guidance and sharing this cool project.
Looks great I will try this tomorrow
For sure! Good luck and have fun!
