memories of being a six year old who missed part of the episode and just thought the dude was actually Goku's literal brother, which seemed like something that would happen in Dragon Ball

We should have known Raditz wasn't going to be relevant after never seeing Goku's original brother show up again.
Goku is basically doing iron man training at this point. Swimming long distance, climbing, running etc.

I think others have already commented on your other videos and I know these are delayed so you probably already know, but just to be sure I’m pretty sure nothing in original Dragon Ball is filler or non-canon. I’m pretty positive that Toriyama intended it all to be world building
Agreed. That's the beauty of the OG Dragon Ball. All the stuff regarding canon/non-canon in this series episode after episode is just distracting, tbh.

Well, anime only means it is something the Toei staff came up with, and not part of Toriyama's manga. But Toriyama may write by the seat of his pants, he does write tight. Except for some nonsense during the Freeza arc, there is no real filler imho. Just extra single episode fluff to make the anime feel like an actual TV show.
There's absolutely filler in the Pre-Z stuff. Various parts do not appear in the manga.
no theres tons of filler in the original DB anime. a lot of this stuff wasnt in the manga and he never intended it to be there because of that.
