Our FORGOTTEN 750cc Powered Cross Kart Returns to FULL POWER!

- Our 750cc cross kart build returns to full power! We bought a 1982 DOHC Honda CB750 motorcycle for $150 with a stuck engine. We found that the half of the valves were rusted solid, so we serviced the head, and reinstalled it with new gaskets. In today's episode, we find our CB750 power plant doesn't have spark, and doesn't idle. We change coils, check timing, and rebuild the carburetors until eventually it runs right! And STRONG!
Thanks for Watching!

The fact that you guys can push out this much content every Monday, and every Wednesday, is really just amazing! Keep up the tremendous work! I’ll be sure to show up at mini Mayham this year! Thank you all!

This is obviously from the archives due to the fact it’s pre-accident
@@macinfloydvolk still
@@macinfloydvolk yeah man! There's no fcukin way ike's ever gonna rip that fast ever again!!!
👊✊💨💨💨🤣👍
@@andybowyer3602 hell naw a full recovery just gonna take some time - man I hated that for him I hate he’s missing out on working on stuff he seriously loves to work on things
It's the intake setup. Your middle 2 cylinders are cold and killing plugs because the fuel/air mix has a straight shot to those cylinders while it has to make 2 90° turns before it gets to the cylinders.
Imo there is no way it wouldn't be the cause. it has an effect on it for sure.
@cody McGill
I been trying to tell them two for a very long time that the plastic piping and 2 cards isn't going to work right on it. They can't find out why it won't run right 🤔🤔🤔
Might also be worth mentioning that when they did use the 4 carb setup they used cheap and nasty chinese style air filter pods that are well known to cause issue with them older keihin carbs. Whack a set of Mikuni RS34 Flatslide's on that bad boy and it'll rip! (with proper manifolds ofcourse!)
@@BSFPC I know you are absolutely right. It needs 4 carbs to work right so they are all feeding the same. Get rid of those elbows and plastic fittings and it will work fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need to go back to 4 carb setup
This 750 may be clapped, but it is still less worn out than the engine that came out of the cross kart- it feels like it's back to full power!
Are you guys planning on adding any bigger tires to get a lil more ground clearance?
Is this video before Ikes wreck or after. Just curious if hes back to A1 now
@@williamwiseheart3323 I guess before
900cc or higher
Please get a hole newer bike.
Those intakes just aren’t sitting well with me, it’s straight through to the front two cylinders but it’s like the outer cylinders aren’t getting much of anything. Need to do more of a Y than an L
Definitely agree 👌 I was going to say the same thing but happened to read yours first
I just wish they would bit the bullet and put that sports bike motor on it 😅
Yeah, I think it'll run okay with just 2 carbs if they can get equal length intakes into them. 4 carbs would be ideal, but I can understand them not wanting to try to make that potential headache work properly.
I say pipe stack em individually four pipes straight up or maybe they have room to put a 45° for the bend to the carb.
bro that has been bothering me and my dad ever since they started that with the cb750s
he should be able find them off of honda 250cc 2002 rebel motorcycle there Y on intake to carburetor because i know where find parts will fit it
You guys need a proper intake manifold, the one that you have is wrecking the fuel delivery on the outboard cylinders while giving the two inboard ones a straight shot to the valves, and you really should sync those two carbs correctly.
Ahhh yeah! Love this part of the day. Hope everyone is having a great Monday
I remember when you guys first built it and I was waiting every day to come home from school and watch the build
Same!
After tuning hundreds of honda 750's over the years, if you don't SYNC those carbs, you'll never get optimum performance!! 🥺
Won’t be as smooth, but wide open is wide open.
Went thru that on an old kz650 I got when I was 13.
Once it was right though ,she ran like the dickens.
Broke traction at 75 on dirt roads 😂
Dudes right . Really do need to synchronize those carbs . There's a tool for it
@@jacobbornman9494 But these aren’t even the stock carburetors . The stock motorcycle has four carburetors.. syncing them just makes each carb open the same amount at the same time. This has two carbs that can also be synced . But I’m telling you now .. that is not why it runs like shit.
So great to see Owen Wilson taking a break from movies and just enjoying his hobbies.
Owen Wilson my ass Ricky Bobby all day
@@MrCheaterpipe he looks nothing like Ricky Bobby...
Maybe ike and John can fix him up a jet ski as he was cheated out of one in Loki.
Wow.
PLEASE DITCH THAT INTAKE SETUP. Don't even gotta go 4 carbs. Have a plenum between the two carbs and the 4 cylinders. Plenum has to be AFTER the throttle blades.
A plenum with 4 intake runners would be perfect. Throw a Holley on it!
I just got my stickers in the mail today. And a scrap of the sweet day of the dead seat. Thanks for that! Keep up the awesome work fellas!
Guys, please invest in an exhaust fan for the shop! For under $200 you can put in a good wall mount adjustable speed one that just plugs into a 110v outlet.
Do u really get proper ground for the plugs on that paint surface? They seem not to be in contact with bare metal.
Seriously! I was thinking the whole time “ just set the plugs on the valve covers!”
Gotta be the intake those 90’s are killing the flow to the outer cylinders.
A set of coils from a CBR600F2/F3 are the same impedance as the originals (therefore won't damage ignitors/spark units) but will give a noticeably hotter spark. Cheap and almost bolt-in ignition upgrade.
Have y'all checked valve clearances? If that engine wasn't well maintained before you bought it, good chance at least a few of the valves are way too tight and you're losing compression (and on the way to burning a valve). Aim for ~.005" clearance... adjust by changing shims. Then do a vacuum sync of the carbs.
Also... agree with everyone else commenting on the intake manifolds... no way those things are providing consistent mixture to each cylinder.
@CarsandCameras put 4 factory carbs with proper filters and high energy coils. The intake setup has been the problem from the first in my opinion
Y’all need an infrared thermometer for checking exhaust tube temps without burning your skin off.
Spray bottle of water tells you a hole is dead
Was just watching yard cart performance mods. I'm currently building a 13hp Briggs and Stratton Vanguard Mini Bike. I'll post a video of it when it's done.

haha nice username.
One my favorite builds. Keep more content like this coming. Thanks guys!
Great tips. Always go for the easiest low hanging fruit first.
SVSEEKER had a transmission leak, checked everything but the drain plug..
I missed the cross kart, so good to see it back
Good to see Ike enjoying himself again 🤙
Just started the video and saw the ultrasonic cleaner. And had to comment thank God you guys finally got one!
ive been watching this channel for months and i just now noticed that you have a skateboard truck screwed to your barn door as a handle. awesome.
Yes on my day off perfect time to watch this this will motivate me to put my polaris magnum back together after a pond dunk on Sunday
John you know better and you have the patients to learn the tuning!! You need someone the knows what they are doing to teach you!! You're not growing like I'm watching all the other mechanic channels learn and grow!! I've been watching you for years!!
It'll be fine. I personally think he's doing quite well for himself. Obviously he's living our best life or we wouldn't still be watching
That rig is so much fun, very jelous. Glad ya persevered and got the old engine running better,
Keep doing it this way it is half of the joy watching your channel
That is the perfect build for a 2 stroke 600 triple or a twin bigger. Nothing you've built is more perfect for a snowmobile motor then that
Not likely at full power when missing 2 carbs and using a janky intake manifold. Why do you not want to run 4 carbs like the engine was designed for?
Because they dont know much about jetting or the effects of a proper air box on CV carbs
They could not get the 4 carbs to work way back when ad tried to simplify with two carbs. It worked until they installed this new engine.
@@dirkdigler5332 If I remember rightly, the two carb setup was an attempt to fix a problem that turned out to be caused by something else. It never seemed like it ran that great with the old engine, hence why they were so eager to replace the whole thing instead of just the broken oil pan. The issue is that they transferred the problem from the old engine to the new and are wondering why it still doesn't run right.
@@crudboy12 perhaps, not certain if I really recall. Regardless I think they are tired of trying to fix junk and are wiling to pay for a decent motor now.
I remember when you guys first started building this. This build was one of my favorites because it was from the ground up.
glad to see you back in action, Isaac. ( good to see the cross kart back too :) )
Doesn’t matter much now, but we’re you grounding the plugs through a painted piece of metal?
Great to see Ike back behind the wheel!
So glad I found this channel, these guys remind me of myself and my friend's! Great content 👌
I have an 85 cb 750. Bike is taken apart was going to make it a cafe racer. Will sell the whole bike but will not part. Engine runs great low mileage have title
Ike's hunting instinct kicked in immediately when he heard that motorcycle.
Haha absolut
16:56 The timing was also perfect
You must do something about the carburettors!!!!!
Is this Ike post healing? If so, SO GLAD TO SEE HIM BACK IN ACTION!
No, they commented on another comment that this was pre-accident.
thanks for asking i was curious
Ike I've was so worried brother!!!! Good to see ya!
its great to see ike back to using that arm! glad hes been recovering, take it easy and itll be fine!!
This engine is supposed to have four carburetors four idle circuits you're trying to feed it with 2wo idle circuits
Guys, guys guys, please.
You have 4 cylinders fed by 2 carbs. That in its self is not bad.
WHAT IS BAD IS, the 2 inside carbs get straight flow from the carbs.
The 2 outside cylinders have the flow forced through 2 90 degree turns.
The fuel mixture is very different between the cylinders.
Put 4 carbs on it!
Repeat,
PUT 4 CARBS ON IT!!!!
Or at least a manifold to balance the carbs.
I love this thing. Such a cool build. Looks fun to drive.
I’m so glad that you guys decided to pull the cross kart out and do some repairs man I love the cross kart
You guys should check every ground I'm in a shop class and I was working on a bike with pretty much the same motor and I fixed the problem with tightening a ground
Or you could just put the stock intake and carbs on it I'm sure it's the mess in that area causing problems
Cross kart is my favorite too then the pick up kart. Cross kart needs alittle taller suspension. I'm having panic attacks waiting for another oil case fracture. LoL 😂
the Cross Kart is an amazing vehicle you built. Its time to make another one!
So don’t the plugs need to be grounded to spark consistent. Wouldn’t the paint keep them from grounding to the frame?
wouldnt run at all if there was no ground, plugs ground through engine. Their problem is the intake piping and firing order.
They "should" ground , but have fun watching for spark with that bouncing crap allover the place.
Either get a Briggs spark tester for 8$ or wrap a wire around the plug to ground it.
The spark checker is way easier to deal with though.
@@MrTheHillfolk oh you guys are referring to when spark testing against the frame. Yes, a better ground would be better.
@@NVMDSTEvil and really , most spark checkers make it jump like .100-200 or even .250 of an inch or more.
You might have spark at a plug gapped at .035 but load the coil with a 1/4 inch gap and see it fail under load.
That simulates a load similar to it trying to fire in a cylinder.
@@NVMDSTEvil
1342 it should be and ya got a wasted spark on the exhaust stroke of that cylinders running mate.
Running mates , firing order , knowing which way the "dizzy" turns and you're unstoppable from figuring out any firing order ever.
Have you tried syncing the carbs? Mine also ran alot better with the stock air box
Poor cross kart it has a big life😂 really guys im impressed of how well it runs.
Good job boys stay the same i love your videos and good recovery to Ike.🤙
Hey guys. First step in a good tune up is to confirm compression is balanced across all cylinders. Within 10% of each other. Second thing I see is you are trying to feed 4 cylinders with half the carburaters the bike came with.now that u have a sonic cleaner surely u can find 2 more decent carbs to put it back to stock configuration. Third(and this is just my personnel opion) put some bigger tires tires on that thing! Get it up outta the weeds and make it roll over obstacles easier! Keep up the good work.i enjoy ur channel.
Clean the pick-ups on the fly wheel, metal particles you find in the motor are magnetized to the stator and foul the signal.
The fly wheel is your distributor .
@@slamboy66 yeah I've seen metal shaving on them before. I dont know how but it happens. I've had some that have been rusty and I sandblast it and it runs fine.
Wonder how much more fun this would be with a fresh engine? Probably even more of a screaming death trap lol.
The Hon-duki engine would be better, it has all 4 carbs, and it went like hell!
I used that engine in my 1981 750F road race bike. Those engines are remarkably easy to rebuild ..turning your $150 engine into a $2000 engine.
Good to c ike back at it again ripping it up
Isaac: Your spark is weak!
Cross Kart: 🙁
It might be time to take the hit and get a new set of stock carbs for that engine.
That's awesome. Put a piece of black paper behind the plugs for camera view. Great stuff guys!
Man that little Earle's fork is a sweet design! When I finally build a mini bike, it's going on it!
I don’t know, they left Ike by himself in the shop. It could be disastrous or totally awesome 🤩😂😂
Ummmm....He wasn't.
How do you expect spark plugs to work when they are not touching bare metal? They have to be electrically connected to the frame/engine to work,,,
Exactly! At least put them on the valve covers!
Great to see You doing better Ike!
I'm glad to see you back in action healed up Ike, please be careful on the next high powered ride buddy.
I would love to see that thing on larger wheels and tires
Me too.
put a protective plate under the engine so you do not manage to destroy another engine
Yeah the fact it doesn't have a skid plate is kinda odd
That simple green degreaser is Great. Spray it full strength onto your wet deck or siding let it sit a bit and pressure wash it off it will take all the mold and dirt off great stuff
Almost to a million subs! Great job boys!
Rather b welding is gonna destroy the best lap time with his new snowmobile go-kart
Crazy yard cart for sure!!!
Not if it keeps pulling front wheels off the ground. Hard to steer with wheels in the air. Looks cool tho
@@garnethart1137 I don't think it will on a dirt track
Only one way to find out!! Cars and cameras have their own kart with a snowmobile engine.. sure would be one hell of a showdown!
You guys should put an exhaust fan and shroud in the window so you guys can keep working on projects while troubleshooting engines.
I mean, it's better than breathing in all that carbon monoxide Especially during wintertime since you guys have to diagnose and/or install engines into new projects. Just looking out for your health guys!
YAY FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY
Glad to see Ike up and about again great video guys
When will we see more honda 3 wheeler content
Definitely sounds like a carb issue could had a pinhole in the head gasket cause issues before and valve clearence but looks like slot of fun good looking cart
I can't wait to get my wiring for my cart on Thursday hoping start up. I may have to buy new motor but I want something fast and that will still work with reverse
Isaac is a mad MAN ! Full send !
Glad Ike is back at it!
good to see that little rocket going again. visually, it's my favorite, because it's just so flat and stable at ridiculous speeds
What a beast! Still one of my favorites!
It's so good to see Ike back behind the wheel doing what he does best sending the living daylights out of it!!!!!!!! Glad to see your back on track!!!
I think this may be a old vid but if he is hell yeah !

Glad to see that arm is doing well 💪😁👍
Glad Ike is feeling better!
amazing build
I love watching y'all guys build stuff I love building stuff too. I think you need to get rid of that engine and put a 2-stroke snowmobile Engine with reverse on it. Keep up the good work guys.
I saw the spark, barely but I did! Thanks guys!
Ultrasonic cleaner works excellent but you have to pull the carburetors apart in order in order to get good results
this video was in strock/storage I presume -- before Hondooki -- great job guys, time for vacation
Glad to see that Ike is back and out rippin it up
cross carts one of my favs that and the 60mph tractor but the cross cart looks so good and well "engineered"
Amazing cart great video
Could you guys re route those exhausts so they go almost horizontally out of the engine, over the frame support, and go straight out the back. They may need some heat shields, but it’s just a suggestion to get a bit better flow
Ike You Recovery Is Looking Good. Welcome Back
About time you got a ultrasonic cleaner! =)
For the sake of every CB750 fan out there you should stick with it and just make that a badass750 motor! I just sold two Honda 750s that were mostly original not running junkers for pretty big profit to some Oregon boys who race vintage CB bikes there's a lot of power there I know you guys can do it!!!!!!
