Thanks. Accidentally ordered 30 bananas and didn’t know what to do!
For those of us that don't care for ripe bananas I can't imagine they would like this. However, what a creative way to use up ripe bananas. I tend to freeze mine and use for banana bread. Great video Louise. Now I have to go work on organizing my pantry. Have a great day!
If you like banana bread, you will probably like this. It doesn't have that weird alcohol taste of a really ripe banana, it just tastes like a fresh banana in jam form.
@@TheSaltedPepper I would have to agree. there is no way I would eat a ripe banana, but they are the best ones to use for baking or preserving, in fact, if somebody is baking with unripe bananas, they are missing out on a big party in the mouth!
I really enjoy watching your videos, thank you for explaining so well and you are so natural and friendly in the way you talk .
Oh that is sooo good!! Thank you
You are so welcome!
Jillybean ….Geeze Louise this is amazing. Love it, and made it!!!!!!!! Thank you.
I will be making banana butter on my organic farm here in the Virgin Islands. I enjoyed very much watching your version!
I hope you love it!
Banana jam! Whaaat!!! OMG!
It's amazing!
I am going to try this I can wait to taste it
I really enjoyed this, I am going to try this recipe 🙂
Hope you enjoy it!
Oh PLEASE release the english muffin recipe!!! You are the easiest cook because good instructions for all situations THAT teach! Not all of us have thermometers!!! Thanks AGAIN!
Thank you so much! I wish I knew where I put the test recipe instructions. I'll have to start over! LOL
Looks great..love love love banana's. I love Jeff's new camera's!
Thanks! I will pass that along for sure!
thank you for this im doing it right now.
I hope you love it!
Afternoon! This time I’m in Ireland due to work. Still time to watch your fab videos 😋
Hi!
Ohhhhh can't wait to try this. Love bananas, and this sounds heavenly. Did you put the lids on while it was hot? How do you seal the jars? Thanks!
I didn't "seal" the jars as in can them. I did put the lids on when they were hot and the heat "sealed" them, but I store them in the fridge, not on the shelf. I didn't find an approved canning recipe, so better safe than sorry.
I made the Greek Meatball soup as directed and it was a huge hit in this house!!!
That's wonderful!
I can't wait to try this! Can this be water bathed to make it a shelf item rather than a refrigerator item?
This would be good on ice cream too, going to make this today.
I hope you love it!
I love how clearly you explained the process. I have recently gotten a large amount of bananas and want to make jam for holiday gifts. Thank you so much!
I hope you love it!
As a T2 diabetic I will be experimenting using cup per cup of Stevia instead of sugar. I'm supposed to get my Foodi today!! Can't wait!! Thank you for your vids!! You helped me make up my mind of which to buy...the Hot Pot or the Foodi...😁🥰
Would love to know how it turns out for you with stevia. Would love to make this. sugar free.
I'm going to test a sugar substitute soon, I would suggest getting low sugar pectin for the best results.
I think there is low sugar pectin if you are using sweetener.
Hiya this looks delicious, quick question what is pectin? I'm from the UK just wondering if that means something else over here, just found your channel and I am defo subscribing love simple recipes 💕💕
Thank you so much! I think pectin is called pectin in the UK as well. It's a gelling agent for jams, jellies, preserves.
The end of your braid is as pretty as a banana peel (:
Thanks for sharing this wicked jam with us!
I hope you love it!
Hello! I'm so excited to try this recipe😊. I just have a quick question, can you use any fruit with this recipe? Thanks so much for sharing😃😃!
Different fruits have different levels of pectin, so it isn't always the best idea to switch fruits in a jam, jelly, or preserves. I would find a recipe for the type of fruit you want to use.
@@TheSaltedPepper Thank you so much for getting back to me, you are so sweet! I've never made jam before, so I'm using your banana jam as my guinea pig jam (never made jam before!) and then I'll take it from there and let you know😊. Can I purchase pectin from the grocery store?
just saw this and cant wait to try, question is, can these be stored with the rest of my jellies or does it have to stay in fridge? also how long doe is stay good in your fridge? thank you
I couldn't find a canning recipe for banana jam, so I'm not sure if the PH is going to make it safe for canning. Sorry, I just don't know the answer. I would think the sugar content would be fine, but I would never want to give unsafe advice. I keep mine in the fridge.
I have to say that your Banana Jam looked pretty darn tasty! I've got a Ninja, I've got 2 bananas, and I've got a small jar w/lid -- I'll have to give your recipe a try when my 'nanas get darker! 😊 Thanks for sharing! 👍
@~Vashti7~ Haha, will do!
I hope you love it!
@~Vashti7~ Here's my update! Wow!!! I'm 57 and I'm just now tasting banana jam?! Boy, have I been missing out! I made my 1st (2-banana) batch a couple weeks ago and had some on a bagel the next morning. It was dee-licious! Now I've been testing it on different items to see what works. It makes for a great peanut butter & banana jam sandwich, by the way! 👍👍😁
As this was my very 1st batch, I've learned a few things:
1. If I let my bananas turn black (as I did), I can decrease the amount of added sugar a bit.
2. I need to stop cooking my jam a bit sooner. I almost made "banana glue!" 😂 Tasty, tasty banana glue!
3. I blended my initial ingredients, but 1/4 cup of water (for 2 'nanas) evaporates pretty quickly! I may add just a bit more water to slow things down a bit next time.
This is a great recipe! Thanks a million! 😊
P.S. I added just a bit of water to my jam, stirred, and it loosened right up. 👍
Wondering if this recipe would work in the Ninja Hot & Cold and how you would go about making it that way.. 💓
I've had issues with jams setting because there isn't a high enough consistent heat in the blender. It's been hit or miss with different jams and jellies I've tried.
SE Grocers (Winn Dixie & Hannafords) used to sell a banana jam. It was so damn good..
Hi what is the spoon type thing you was using when making the banana jam and where did you buy it?
I think it's the Mix 'N Mash that I used in this recipe: www.pamperedchef.com/pws/thesaltedpepper/shop/Kitchen+Tools/Mixing+%26+Measuring/Mix+%27N+Masher/2685
did you heat your jars and lids? also is it shelf stable or does it need refrigeration ?
I kept it in the refrigerator. I couldn't find a definitive answer on hot water bath canning, but with the sugar content it seems like it would be fine. Please research it before doing it though.
Hello from Michigan,looking gorgeous Louise
Hello there!
GREAT and concise content. Very nice personality to boot! :-) Thank you very much! 💐🍌 I Like your website too! Yummy!
Thank you so much!
@@TheSaltedPepper You're welcome. The pleasure is all mine :-)
I love cardamom. I put in banana breads, carrot cakes, anything that has a similar spice blend. Just add this hint of "secret flavor"
Cardamom, to me, tastes like 'Magic' !!
I totally agree!
That's a great description!
I'm wondering if Ultra Gel would work as a thickener instead of pectin? I'm diabetic so will try with a combo of Splenda, and Kroger brand stevia. I use both in all drinks tea, coffee etc because the combo cancels out the aftertaste of each one. I sometimes add half or less of real sugar to a recipe to get better texture. I've experimented with all sugar sub in pound cake and cheesecake, both came out subpar for my taste. Bananas are my jam anyway so I am definitely going to try this. Thx for sharing.
I'm not familiar with ultra gel, so I am not sure. You can use a low sugar pectin though.
I can't wait to make this !!
When did you add the pectin, I didn't see that ?
Thank you.
she did it at 3:00
@@bigdoggo2848 Thank you !!
I watched it twice and still didn't catch it !!
During the first boil, before the sugar goes in.
@@TheSaltedPepper Thank you very much !!
I can't wait to make this--what are your thoughts on using 1C. white, and 1C. brown sugar ?
Thanks again !!
@@TheSaltedPepper I finally made this (bananas took forever to ripen !) This is really AMAZING !!
Might be the best thing I have tasted in a long time !!
Definitely need to use the cardamom, it really puts this over the edge !!
Thank you !
Sort of like Banana Ketchup in the Philippines
they use Saba bananas instead of tomatoes
and they color it red to make look like a Tomato Ketchup.
interesting!
Wondering if and how you might go about canning this!
I'm not sure about canning because I couldn't find any approved canning recipes using bananas in a jam. Sorry, I'm not well versed on what can and can not be canned.
I water bathed it for 5 min.
hi! i'm wondering is lemon juice used to keep the bananas from browing?
Lemon juice is used in jams/jellies/preserves to change the ph and helps set the jam.
gunna try this recipe this weekend how can i make this in bulk
It's best to make smaller batches of jams and jellies for consistency and a good outcome. You can probably double this one though.
An idea to use the jam, and I know this may seem weird/gross, but try and see first! Use as a spread on a pizza and smother with cheese. It is SO good! I’ve been adding slices of ripe banana to pizzas for years. Let me know what you think 😋😋😋
Banana on pizza?! Hmm... I'll have to try that the next time I'm in the mood for pizza! 😁
Now, did you use a normal yellow banana or did you use an over-ripe banana?
Hey, I'm up for it!
It sounds not edible... I would not waste either pizza or banana jam on this
Louise, funny you should mention banana chips. I just dehydrated a quart mason jar full from bananas the food pantry gave me to compost. I couldn't bear to throw them all out there. Can you suggest a way to use those chips with this recipe? The chips were made from ~1/8" round slices. Maybe a count of so many chips, rehydrated with so much water, then proceed with the recipe?
I honestly do not know. My gut tells me it won't work, but I could be wrong. Please let me know if you try it!
@@TheSaltedPepper Will do.
a question I have that you didn't answer in the video ( maybe you can add it in with text?) is how long the jam will last and if it has to be stored in the fridge or can you use the pantry till the jar is opened?
Store in the fridge and it lasts at least 4 months unopened.
@@TheSaltedPepper Thanks! Great recipe! it is the only jam to set up this year for me, lol.
Wondering how long this will last in the refrigerator?
Several months if unopened and probably at least a month open.
How is this stored? Does it have to stay in the refrigerator?
Since it's not an approved canning recipe, I keep it in the fridge. It might have the right PH to be water bathed canned, but since I couldn't find a ball canning recipe using the ingredients I used, I would store it in the fridge.
Can this be canned? or is it a refrigerator jam only?
This is not a canning recipe, so keep it in the fridge. I looked for a canning recipe and couldn't find one from a reputable source, so I really don't know the acid level in this type of recipe and I'm not sure if it would be shelf stable after water bath canning.
I have bananas that are still yellow will the jam still be flavourful?
For the best flavor, I would wait for them ripen. People also bake ripe bananas to speed up the ripening, but I've found that let them ripen naturally is the best way. The darker they are, the better the flavor.
Would just adding 1 cup of sugar change the consistency?
I haven't tried it that way, but let me know if you do! It would decrease the volume, but I'm not sure about the effects on it setting up like a jam.
The Salted Pepper I sure will! Another use for this jam that I think would be yummy is as an ice cream topper!!!
@@kshav62 -- Did you try using only 1 cup of sugar? How'd it turn out?
Can you freeze this recipe?
Yes.
to me this seems more with the definition of jelly despite bananas having virtually no juice content.
I musta done something wrong cuz I halved the recipe but it got super thick and didn’t even fill two 4 oz jars all the way
It may have reduced too much, you might be able to thin it some by adding some water and warming it up.
@@TheSaltedPepper I did exactly that and it is magnificent. Thank you so much!
Strawberry, banana and orange
I have never heard of banana jam but it sounds so yummy.....lol did I just hear you say put peanutbutter on a burger??? Like a meat burger lol
Oh yes! Peanut butter and banana on a hamburger is fantastic.
@@TheSaltedPepper I've never heard of putting peanutbutter on a burger before.whats that taste like?
@@nikkilyne36 It's hard to describe, but if you like peanut butter, it's amazing. The heat from the burger melts the peanut butter (so you don't use any other condiments except bananas or banana jam) and it's so good! It sounds so weird and my husband and I were traveling and saw one on a menu, he got it and WOW! Give it a try!
Your lady I want you to link all of this instrument that you're using for your bananas the Masher I just tried to buy one and they got me down for 6 every time I tried to correct it they change on me I need help I'm a senior I can only buy the $15 one plus tax and shipping what do I do and can you help
I'm not sure why the quantity would change, email me @louise@thesaltedpepper.com if you continue to have issues. Here is the link: www.pamperedchef.com/pws/thesaltedpepper/shop/Featured+Collections/Best+Basic+Tools+Every+Kitchen+Needs/Mix+%27N+Masher/2685
Instead of water, maybe use rum for extra flavor.
Lol.. 4 bananas to 2 cups of sugar! Dynamite!
I mean the sugar is the main preserving agent
I mean masher
Here is the link: www.pamperedchef.com/pws/thesaltedpepper/shop/Featured+Collections/Best+Basic+Tools+Every+Kitchen+Needs/Mix+%27N+Masher/2685
Can you can this
It's not a canning recipe and I'm not well versed in canning enough to answer that. Most jams have enough sugar and the right ph for hot water bath canning, but I couldn't find a banana jam that was canned by a reliable source, so I keep mine in the fridge.
Eww..
I guess you aren't a fan of bananas! LOL
Why so rude lmao
