I know the GOP doesn't want women to vote, but it feels like they sorta just forgot that women can vote.
Abortion rights are a 50/50 issue among both sexes. There's a lot of women out there voting FOR abortion bans . . . . .
(This is not a pro-life comment. This is a "stop villainizing men and virtuing women" comment)
@@deedelta9263 NOT a lot, considering what the voting patterns are.

@@TheStephaneAdam Ha! That's rich! *I'm* in a information bubble because I said something you don't agree with. But CERTAINLY not you, right? You have ALL the correct information, because ofc you do; simple. How about instead of playing the "I'm right, you're wrong" game, we actually exchange sources and see what that reveals?
So from Gallup, Pewresearch, & AmericanSurveyCenter, its pretty clear that abortion rights are a relatively split issue, not just now, but for decades. Women are typically some percentage points above 50% and Men are typically some percentage points below, but neither side has a landslide differential. This highlights 2 key facts:
1) Many, many women are voting against abortion rights
2) Many, many men are voting to protect abortion rights
Now please, by all means, share your sources that say otherwise. I think you get flagged for putting direct links so just tell me the name of the website or org and I'll check it out.

"While public support for legal abortion has fluctuated some in two decades of polling, it has remained relatively stable over the past several years. Currently, 61% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 37% say it should be illegal in all or most cases."
Not even close to even.
The ONLY group where the majority of people are anti-choice are the white evangelical protestants, 74 to 24. And they're basically christian talibans anyway. They're the people the GOP panders to at the exclusion of everyone else.
So yeah, you live in a bubble if you think it's a split issue. I'll note you gloss over details and numbers in your attempt to make a point. "Many, many" ain't a quantitative statement, it's an impression.
And newsflash, American's REALLY don't like being told what they're allowed to do, so even when they are anti-choice they're gonna have trouble with the implementation of a ban where neighbors get to sift through your mail.
Not only was Trump pro-choice until he realized he was only going to get elected with the Evangelical support, but you'll never convince me he never paid for an abortion.
He’s definitely paid for more than one

Unfortunately, some of them would lecture her and question her morality 🤮
How people can still vote for those inhumane leaders
I believe the majority of Americans did not understand what abortion rights mean, myself included. It's not just about ending an unwanted pregnancy but protecting the health of the mother and fetus. We forget how difficult and dangerous it can be to carry a child to term. People have awakened to the realities of the times before legalized abortion. The stories of a woman nearly dying because it's illegal to have a procedure to save her life are hard to ignore. It's a hopeful sign that there's such a strong push to restore women's health choices.
I think you hit on a very important detail here: this issue is complex, and too many people are trying to make it simple. It isn’t just “do you believe in baby murder, yes or no?” It’s “should we legally deny fifty percent of the country the right to accessing a safe and sanitary medical procedure that in some cases will save their life?” And then people will argue that pregnant people can choose adoption instead of abortion, completely disregarding the fact that even carrying a child to term can be life-threatening and life-changing, and that’s aside from the physical and emotional trauma of labor and delivery.
There are so many people out there whom haven't had the need to look at the statistics associated with pregnancy, or what a woman's body goes through to conceive, so they just absorb the information presented to them by their peers. It's unfortunate, but it is that way for many other topics as well
Sometimes women have to get abortions because the fetus is *already dead* and if it doesn't get removed, the woman will go into sepsis and die.
As someone who was aware of these complications and more, I'm glad there are people willing to recognize they didn't understand the situation in its entirety and are willing to take action to mitigate the damages.
The horror stories of back alley abortions and women dying of sepsis because doctors refuse to help is too numerous to ignore. And these aren't ancient history. The horrors are from the 60s. And without proper action, we'll just be repeating the same circumstances that led to the deaths and abuse of women back then.
No country has ever banned abortions, only safe abortions.
It was never about life, it was always about controlling women. These are people who will force a women to carry a pregnancy to term, but will offer nothing to help or support mother or child after the baby is born. It’s hate that drives them, not love.
Odd: Those you declaim for seeking to control women ...sought no right to control if a woman would be intimate.
Even more odd: Women seek to control their own lives and bodies, ...yet allow strip clubs and like-minded establishments to operate.
T'would seem that many women seek control...until that freedom of control has troublesome consequences.

The thing is that most republicans probably don't meet your definition of "Republican." Republican leadership no longer represents the values held by Republican voters. The strategy to win Republican seats is to appeal to the extreme right, but they went so far in that strategy as to actually believe their extremist values represent the values of the party as a whole.
It's a problem for die-hard democrats who label Republicans as their opposition, but use the opinion of Trump / Desantis / or god forbid... Marjorie Taylor Greene... because they stand right next to an actual republican voter and don't even recognize them as such.
The abortion bills that have passed recently... didn't pass because "democrats came out in numbers". I use that quote because I see people saying that about ohio. Ohio is very much a red state; not because of gerrymandering... but because of voters. In all popularly elected positions they vote red. For example, the Mike DeWine was voted Gov with nearly 1.7x the votes. That's one of nearly 14 popularly elected positions in Ohio that were all voted red since 2018. Ohio is a red state. It used to be purple, but more and more it presents as a Red State so much that people are questioning if it is even a swing state any more.
So back to the topic. The ohio abortion bill that passed last week passed with republican voter... support. Deeply red counties voted overwhelmingly to pass the measure.
You can see this trend of Republican leadership pushing objectives that are not supported by the republican voter base all over the place.
The ceasefire in Israel/Gaza has overwhelming support with the Rep voters with more than 55% saying yes to a ceasefire in several recent polls. Republican party leadership? only 4%.
In fact across three separate regional polls conducted by Ipsos, roughly 23% of republicans stated they thought 2022's republican leadership reflected their core values, but interestingly 76% said the republican platform reflected their values. And it goes down into more detail on their values. For example, republicans had strong interest in reform related to crime, immigration, inflation, & government budget compared to democrats being focused on gun violence, climate change, abortion (interestingly only 7% of republicans identified abortion as a "critical" topic; and realize this research was done before Roe was overturned). When asked if inflation (or rising costs) was a critical topic to address, 68% of republicans said yes compared to 29% of democrats. But when asked if "representatives" were addressing the topic of inflation to their satisfaction, only 21% of republicans said yes and 62% said no.
Just food for thought.
Republicans can't work with Democrats and they can't work without them either.
Why not blame democrats? They had the White House and the Senate when RvW was overturned. Good thing RBG lived forever just like she promised…

So your on the side of using abortion as birth control oh ok cool got it
@@Whitegumybear where, exactly, did they say that?
I need to write this again.
A 15 week abortion ban does NOT help women or foetuses. This is because many of the tests on the foetus to see if there are genetic abnormalities can only be safely used when the foetus is at 20 or more weeks.
Also for many women, health complications start occurring more frequently or worsen as the pregnancy progresses.
So all I can say is. HANDS OFF MY BODY. The decision to abort or not is the choice I make for myself and with my family and the doctor. We will make the decision based on what is good for me and us. No one else gets a say.
Don’t be fooled. Days before the election Youngkin went on to say that he was 100% behind a national ban. If Republicans won he was going to push that bill. So he totally missed the mark. He’s a Trojan horse .
That is not completely true, but I do see your point. The tests can be done at 12 weeks, and that was compared with the 20 week scan. The results are the same. (Of course you can never be 100% sure, I mean, sometimes AT BIRTH there appears to be a second child... duh.) So a 15 week limit would scientifically be the same as at 20 (plus a few) weeks.
As for the fact that complications for women can increase during pregnancy, that is completely correct, however I cannot support your point that this is a valid reason for abortion (unless life threatening of course!!!). The reason is that you could use this argument for the entire pregnancy up to 40+ weeks.
Well said.

Then they passed a law outlawing special ballot initiatives in August because of poor communication/turnout, and then, when it became clear there would be a pro-abortion motion on the ballot, they broke their own law by declaring an August special election. When that didn't work, they changed the submitted wording on the ballot for the abortion amendment, making the language as offensive as possible, and then launched campaigns lying about the contents of the motion. It's absolutely disgusting.
Face it, democracy only works when we all agree to the rules and follow them. That’s not what has been happening when under Republican rule.
Thank you to all the brothers, fathers, husbands, boyfriends, and the rest of the people who voted to protect women's rights for showing so much more support for this cause, and not taking this topic lightly. Fundamental rights to your own body are not debatable, and it doesn't take a woman to see that. So many of these Republican politicians are so complacent and disrespectful towards women, and it really will be their undoing to rally the majority of people for a right so basic to protect. For respecting women, and their right to choose their own body, supporting women in their fight against this antiquated system is something that really gives the United States its namesake.
After covid, the god awful state congress is in, BLM, and the divisive presidential term of Trump, being united in something was sorely missed. Don't give these politicians even an inch to undermine that.
Also plenty of men are actually directly affected by reproductive rights, as there are plenty of trans men :).
Very true. Something else to consider is the impact that death from pregnancy or delivery complications also hurts families, no matter the gender. Imagine being a partner or child of someone who died during pregnancy or birth? I know it would be devastating for my husband and two daughters if they lost me because I had to be "in danger enough" to allow an abortion. Anti-choice conservatives know that they’ve lost the argument on the actual statistical, medical & human realities around abortion so they are forced to preach their delusions as “fact” all while ignoring “inconvenient victims” like the women who can’t even get miscarriage assistance & the minors who have to flee abusive homes or incestuous cults where not a single adult in their life is interested in their safety.

"Nothing in my life changed". That is true for most . Most people don't have abortions and that was why this whole debacle is such a disgraceful exposee of selfishness . But in the end, most people know and care about someone who needs an abortion. And once they experience the hardliners say harsh things about others "whining about abortion" nor needing to be "punished" because they require the procedure, reality sinks in . Legislative bans are cruel and unnecessary when people are faces with physical and mental health dilemmas not to mention economic realities. One of my friends was pregnant when her husband of a decade and father of three children moved a young girlfriend into their home! He also struck her when she objected Her response was to take the three kids to her home country and train for a job ( she hadn't worked for ten years) and she stayed with relatives until her brother built her a small house with loads of voluntary labour from her extended family and friends. That amount of upheaval is not compatible with pregnancy. But the result was that the three existing children did not miss out on education or attention or clothing and food because their mother was unwell and unemployed. The family of the exhusband have been supportive and the kids now grown have a relationship with their father and paternal relations ...none of which would have happened if my friend had accepted the pregnancy and low status of discarded wife still living in the family home.

As a Canadian this abortion debate seems very archaic and medically erroneous. The time frame for a D&C (short form for the medical term of abortion) should be decided by the impartial medical ethics board not by politicians or constituents. Then it is made into law.
Why are citizens making this decision based on opinion, religion or feeling? This is standard women's healthcare. For example, when a women has a miscarriage, a D&C is performed to ensure she doesn't go into shock with any remains left in her uterus.
We women agree.
The " made into law" portion of that needs left out. In medicine there are always case specific considerations, you can't arbitrarily make one size fits all judgements.
@@janetdotson7829 As Canadiana we know this, medical laws are for doctors to ethically follow and there are plenty of room for common sense. America has better abortion access than Canada.
Don't forget that there are no abortion laws at all in Canada. None. And no party will raise the issue.
It is all handled by the medical licensing boards.
Important question, why is there only two parties in America? It seems this is the main problem of the US. All other countries discovered this decades ago it seem weird America hasn't figured this out yet.
Oh we used to have multiple parties. Like, decades ago. Instead of this system that forces us to choose between 2 evils.
But over time it’s devolved into this horrid mess you see now for various reasons, one of the biggest being how politics is presented in the media.
It’s gotten to the point where we’re split in two and so many of us have this *idiotic* mentality of being loyal to a political party.

15-weeks is such a random, arbitrary number.
They just want to get it as low as they can.
Fetal viability outside of the womb isn't for another 10 weeks after that. 2.5 months.
Don't let anyone try to use the 15-week ban as a "reasonable" offer.
The only reason to wait until after Roe was reversed to do 15 weeks is to pave the way for a 6 week ban like in Florida. 15 weeks is past the first trimester that Roe protected and would have been permitted before the reversal. If what they actually wanted was 15 week bans they'd have been pushing them for decades.
This right here. Before the overturning of roe, the time of viability was assumed around 20 to 26 weeks. they have won nearly 50% of the time, and it will continue to be similar
The big flaw in Republican strategy has always been that when it falls back on its old habit of using moral panics to win, eventually, when they get enough power, they'll be expected to strike against the cause of that moral panic, and when they do, suddenly people everywhere are forced to reckon with how that affects them and people they know. Republican fear and hatemongering works best when they never actually get the chance to act upon it, preying upon a feeling of a lack of control by the target audience.
Basically they're the dog that caught the car, biting onto the bumper and not sure what to do.
It's darker than that though. They use moral panics because morals are always about giving up self interest. And everything the rightwingers want to do requires tricking voters into surrendering self interest in favor of some rightwinger scheme to enrich and empower the oligarchy. The billionaires who own the GOP didn't push for abortion bans because they care about abortion but to build a court that would overturn decisions that made things like minimum wages and the EPA permissible. So everything is a moral frame for them. Abortion is murder, guns are freedom, and taxes it theft.
My theory is that Republicans originally cared about the moral causes they talked about. Then they realized it was more profitable to be a vocal minority and increased the volume of their moral outrage. Now comes the new generation who don't realize that talking the talk is just to get votes, and who actually believe in the party line.
@@lazykbys I would recommend you look into the history of the Southern Strategy. You might be giving them a bit too much credit.
