  • The weather is beautiful today. It's November and there are still lots of flowers blooming at the allotment. I'm making the most of them as I'm sure they won't last long.

    Hi Fiona snap dragons such lovely colour shade plus you have plenty of plants still in flower anyone think your on South Coast, must say we have so much wind and rain last couple weeks that our plots are more like swamps , enjoy the good weather while you can. Keep safe Bill and val

      It’s a funny thing but the north east coast is a very mild place to live, weather wise. It’s that proximity to the beach that does it I think. We’re only a couple of miles from the beach. I think we’ve all had a lot of rain lately....but the ground certainly needs a good soaking after the summer we had!

      It definitely seems to be a long growing season this year, although we’ve just had a light frost last night so maybe that’s the end of it now!

    We have had a change in weather, gales and rain, but things are still hanging on in this very mild Autumn , your garden in still looking good, maybe if that weird stem of potato plant had been buried under ground they might have been proper potatoes , take care👍

      I was thinking that myself about the potato plant. Maybe I should Earth it up and see what happens. But we’ve just had a light frost last night so I dare say it’s too late 🤷‍♀️

    Hi Fiona it's definitely strange that foxgloves are flowering! It's been a strange year! Hopefully next year will be more normal. Not the new normal.lol🙏💚😀👍

      No, we don’t want any of that new normal stuff! Let’s have some good old fashioned old normal please!

    The weather is really amazing. My nasturtiums and calendula are blooming as well. The bees 🐝 love to sleep in them.

      It seems to have gotten a bit colder here the last couple of nights and we even had a light frost so I don’t think my flowers will last much longer now! We can enjoy them while we’ve got them!

    Hi Fiona, your plot certainly looks lovely and green for the beginning of November. Wish I could say the same about ours but the allotment never recovered from the dry weather through summer.

      It’s been a punishing year for many gardeners this year. I think I got off very lightly, the weather was not as extreme. Hopefully next year will be a corker for you!

    Well it’s the same here in Cornwall towards the end of October my apple tree blossomed, not sure I’ll get fruit next year now, and my garden looks more like August so many flowers. I’m still picking green beans too .

      It always feels a bit worrying when things get out of sync, doesn’t it! Although, that’s a fabulous bonus to be still picking green beans! I’m using up the ones in my freezer now and they’re just not the same.🤗

    Hello Fiona, the potatoes they are called aerial tubers, it happens when the plant is damaged.
    So when the all the goodness from the leaves can not get down to the tubers / potatoes because there is a blockage caused by some wind damage to the stem then this has to go somewhere
    so they start growing tubers above ground. at (6:25) shows the damage to the stem

      Aha! That’s really interesting! So probably if I earthed that plant up it would produce. Plants are amazing. Anyway, since then Mr Rat has come through and chewed the few potatoes I had so I’ve had to pull up the lot! Thanks for the information though, we’re always learning.🤗😊

    Do you know what is weird in my garden? My asparagus season ended last week, on week 10. Usually asparagus season is 5-6 weeks long but we've had much wetter and cooler spring than normal (she says while the current temperature is +32°c).

    • @fionagrows1848
      @fionagrows1848  Před rokem +1

      Well that’s definitely a good kind of weird! You can’t have too much asparagus. If I ever have more room an asparagus bed is top of the list. 😊

      @@fionagrows1848 Since commenting above I picked another 3 asparagus spears this afternoon. You can definitely not have too much asparagus. I'm wanting to put in 3 or 4 more crowns.

    I tried to post a Gardener’s World forum link about your potato plant. But you might have links disabled, because it didn’t post.
    Maybe you need to earth them up fully and cover up all those stem spuds.

    • @fionagrows1848
      @fionagrows1848  Před rokem

      I’ll have a look and see if I can figure out why it didn’t link.....thanks for trying. Yes I wondered about earthing the plant up too. I might give it a go but it’s most likely too late for a crop now....they’re on borrowed time until we get a hard frost. 🤗

      Well we’ve had a bit of a frost since then and I haven’t been up to check, but I think the flower’s days are numbered! Thanks for watching!🤗
