  • There is an abandoned mine shaft out in the woods that is super deep. I take a gopro and flashlight on a string and drop them down into the hole. Lets see what is at the bottom of the abandoned mine and find out how deep it is to the bottom. This area is known for mica and quarts mines and this might have been one of those.

    We had an old mine here at the Ranch. But after a few cattle met their demise I filled it with rock and dirt then drilled and pinned rebar into the walls and topped it with 3 feet of concrete. 500 +/- yard of dirt and 9 yard of concrete. Note I did have to detonate a 20gal barrel of expansion foam to fill the side shaft so the rock and dirt wouldn't run out. It cost me about 2600.00 for foam,rebar,concrete and trucking of rock and dirt. The rock and dirt were taken from the pit at the Ranch

    we've been learning a lot about mines lately, cornwall is literally just a hollow shell full of shafts (had to have mine surveys done just to check there weren't any in dangerous areas before we bought the land.. would be cool if you were able to steady the gopro as it drops to stop the rotation... would be pretty cool to see where it headed.... we have a shaft next to our fields (but on on our land) lowest shaft is about 120ft deep, but totally flooded in the lowest level... havent had the chance to go down but have seen photos down there.. its pretty cool

    You should try using two lines to get a more stable decent. With two lines fed through two pulleys with about 2 feet separation you will completely remove the spin as the twine is stretching and unwinding. That would allow you a stable viewing of what was on the bottom. From what I saw I was surprised that you couldn't see even any animal bones from something that had fallen into the hole. Good thing though. Maybe call the State parks people and ask if there is someone who can close off the hole so it is not a danger to humans or animals in the area.

    • @fitlobster
      @fitlobster Před 3 lety

Hauling water by bucket and windlass or just a drop bucket was back breaking work to fill water troughs and such. My folks in Tennessee had one with a flume to the trough so they could just haul up and pour out rather than having to hump two buckets at a time to the trough. They put in pumps when they got power in 1984. Those wells were dug in the late 1800's (1870?) and are still providing water. Mine or well? Pump one out and see! ;o)
