  • I dropped a GoPro under a pier to see what happened underwater. I then dropped some bait around it to see how the fish reacted. It was wild!

I used to live pretty close to that beach! The small, pale snappers with yellow lines and a black spot on their back were Lane Snappers, and the pompano-like fish that the kid caught (which you could also see swimming in a big school above the bait) is an Atlantic Bumper (in the Jack family). Also, fun fact, the croakers that you saw filtering through the sand weren’t typical Atlantic Croakers, but a closely related species called a Spot (generally more blocky in shape and with a larger shoulder spot). Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The fish that the kid caught doesn’t look like a Trevally or a young Jack Crevalle, but after looking back through the video it also isn’t identical to an Atlantic Bumper. To me at least, after a bit of research, it most closely resembles a Blue Runner (another member of the Jack family).

@@AlCatrraz great question! I do know an extensive amount of botany, as well as herbal medicine.
That wasn't what this was about, though, right?
I grew up in a rural area where the hunters around me had very little regard for the animals they took down, or the environment they lived in. In fact, it was more of a "let's go out and blow some **** pigs up!", so I'm not used to being around hunters and fishers who are fascinated and appreciate the biodiversity of the area they are harvesting from.

lmao you would die. Nature is sinister in a way because it lures you in with its beauty, but kills you with its conditions. For one, you would have no drinking water because sea water is not drinkable, second, tropical islands are dry and pretty much have nothing to eat, and the jungle rainforest areas are full of poisonous plants and animals you can't even tell until you try. So as much as I also wanna do that, it would be a short life, unless you're at a resort. Not to mention the sun will burn you in the day and dehydrate you with heat, and at night it will be cold and windy and freeze you.

Florida piers we're always a neat experience when I was young. Puffers, barracuda, some sharks, even saw a big manta ray once swimming near the pier. Those things are huge and fast.

Really cool video. I live on the river here in Ormond and never put a line in the water, guess I'll have to remedy that. Thanks for posting.

Great video! It's funny how crafty the dolphin was ... it knew very well that the cut ladyfish had a hook inside but also knew how to tear it loose from the hook. The phin probably gets plenty of free meals stealing fishermen's baits like that.
