I am overweight and I am on my 4th day of redeeming myself back. I am currently 233 lbs and I really hope I can sustain this otherwise there would no hope for me. I am so tired of living like this. 😢😢
There's two things you need to do: 1. build muscle aka the metabolism boosting - calorie burning body tissue. 2. learn how to track macros and eat at calorie deficit - the three building blocks of calories. Try 30% of total calories fats, .8-1g of protein per body weight, and the rest carbs. If this is confusing, start learning it now.
Surprisingly you can eat better and more than you think, if home cooked. Also, mostly every item he listed here you can eat, and are eaten by those people who successfully lose weight. Make sure you get into the habbit of buying groceries every week, cooking your meals every day - this active activity will help you be hand on regarding tracking. Eat for fuel for physical and or cognitive endeavors and post recovery only, no boredom eating nor eating for fun (yet - only when youve earned it by building enough calorie burning muscles).

Listing an ingredient as "natural flavors" should be illegal.

When Sucralose came out I started using it on everything. I made lemonade, I used it in my coffee, I put in dessert recipes, I consumed it in large quantities. I then started losing weight fast. I was urinating almost non-stop. I developed an insatiable thirst. I was to the point that I started checking my blood glucose levels thinking I was a diabetic. Then it hit me that I was not hyperglycemic, but I was “hyper-Sucralosemic”! All symptoms resolved when I stopped consuming Sucralose. It behaved like an osmotic diuretic in my body. I believe that they should post a maximum “dose” on the package.
Or just not have it?

Whew!! The deli meats portion was a concern. I eat a lot of Prosciutto Parma so I had to go to their website and verify what I’d seen on the label. Zero anything. Only sea salt used in the curing process. Rinsed with warm water and lard applied to aid in the final curing, but no additives of any kind and the animal is specifically raised to a higher standard. So glad I can keep eating this!
Yes ... stay away from the so-called Prosciutto produced in USA

If there's 0.4999 grams or less, you get to round down and call it zero. Isn't that great? We should apply that idea in other areas of life. If you're an athlete, for example, you don't have to cross the finish line. You can stop three meters short of it and just say you finished. If you're building houses, you can cover the roof with tar paper and skip the shingles. It's close enough.

@@Hendoneesia It takes a little planning to get into the mood of eating keto or paleo, but once you figure out how to plan/prep it becomes easier. You start finding easier ways to do it. When you use one of those ways of eating you will full more often and won't always want to snack. Oh, and this comes from a construction Superintendent who oversees multiple companies on construction sites 12-16 hrs a day/5-7 days a week. Once I started IF and eating fewer processed foods and more natural foods I dropped 15 lbs and have kept the weight off.
Exactly, I lived in the UK for 15 years and their diet has took a toll on me, I have developed serious IBS symptoms, so I was forced to change my diet, since I did it I feel a lot better. I’ve started to basically eat only foods that have retained their natural appearance, i do not eat processed foods a part from rice. I do indeed spend a bit more but I have to admit I feel a lot better and I will save up in future medical bills. I buy fresh free range eggs from a farmer near my house, I only buy Swiss free range organic beef or chicken from the butcher once a month ( I live in Switzerland) I buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are seasonal and locally grown from a cheap farmers market near me, they deliver a full box for $10 every week, I try to eat raw vegetables as much as I can (carrots, peppers, tomatoes and spinach’s) I only drink tap water and I filter it with my Brita caraffe, I stay away from breads, butter, cheeses, the only thing I still eat that is made with dairy is natural yogurt. I also eat a lot of fish, I avoid Nordic wild or raised fish since the Nordic sea is the most polluted. I mean it is hard work but processed foods are overfilled with all these weird ingredients that I have to avoid completely.
"A labelling trick, called LYING" genius. I learned that labelling trick the painful way many times over when trying to clean up my eating due to allergies to wheat, gluten, yeast, back in 2005. I found out, painfully, that the food companies do not have the consumer's best interests at heart and the only way to eat was whole foods. That doesn't mean it's been smooth sailing, with the advent of better gluten free products and better labelling (at least in the UK), I've stacked on the weight, going from very slim to being 40+ lbs overweight. Hence here I am relearning everything 🤔🇬🇧
I laughed so hard at him emphasizing that
Amen, call it what it is 👍
What the heck should we eat instead? I can't just cut out every food in existence. What do I replace bread with?

@@willettmary889 I don't think people really understand diet here. They do what everyone else is doing thinking everything will be fine. They end up getting a slew of health issues. MSG has been harmlessly part of human food for millennia. The Romans produced an MG rich sauce called “garum” from fermented fish intestines, similar to the fish sauce used in East Asian cuisines. Doctors with CZcams channels educating like this is a Godsend. Preventative medicine requires education and you giving people access to information is much appreciated.
A phenomenon I've been noticing as well is a very soft "whole-wheat bread" being sold in markets. By reading the nutritional information, you can tell it's rich in sugar and added gluten, which probably all-in-all makes it as bad or even worse than white bread despite the increased nutrients. A good reminder of how vicious and untrustworthy the food industry actually is.

Basically, avoid every food that people have altered in any way.
Yep. I've told my daughter for years that she needs to look at ingredient labels and let her know that the more ingredients that there are, particularly when the words are unknown to her and/or hard to pronounce, that it isn't good for her body.
Eat raw fruits and veggies, simple and easiest to digest.
Baking/Cooking/Anything else = Carcinogenic
Almost all food we eat today has been altered in some way
Yeah, that's the nice and simple way.
@@Lychee7 Not exactly. You should eat food that you've grown/harvested yourself because only then you know what's in it. Raw fruits and veggies purchased at the farmer's market may (and typically do) contain pesticides and other chemicals that can make you equally sick and, because they are "fresh" unpackaged products, they don't even have labels to show it...So do meats. The reality is that, if you take modern nutritionism to its extremes, everybody should become a off-the-grid farmer and only eat the bounty of their own personal farm, which would probably bring the world back to the Middle Ages.
Come al solito...top!
Thank you doc!
this dude is so unintentionally funny at times 😭 “a labeling trick called LYING” that was hilarious
As a nurse, I always found that taking the time to read "nutritional information" facts on products was very scary. When you take the time to actually look up some ingredients, you realize you should not be putting poisons in your body. I once worked as a community health supervisor for the Red Cross and made it my mission to try and get low income people to eat healthier. It wasn't easy. I distinctly remember my mom buying margarine in the early 60's. It was basically white and came with a little bubble of orange colored liquid which you would mix into the margarine to color it. I don't even want to know what was in there 🙄 Thank you Dr for another amazing video.
One thing to remember though is that dosage makes the poison. Every substance is a poison in the right dosage. Likewise even the most toxic compounds can be fine in tiny amounts. This applies to artificial and natural chemicals.

3:49 One weird thing about America is that people seem to like this kind of "fluffy" texture in bread. This is super-bizarre, I think literally everyone else on the planet absolutely hates it.
I have found out that other countries like Canada do not put these horrible additives in their food and they’re the same brand as we get, one good example is ketchup, Canada does not have the horrible additives in ketchup like we do.
The brand of soup is only 'anonymous' for someone who has never lived in America.
I can let you know that it pretty well known in the rest of the world too.

Very important information: thanks so much- Dr Sten
Hi Dr Ekberg, thanks so much for your excellent guidance. I am writing because deli meats have a labelling law problem and now uncured and no nitrates/nitrites added. so they are added to celery powder or the cultured version. And the plant is stuffed with nitrates while it is growing and because it is considered a "flavoring", celery powder is effectively unregulated way to get nitrates in the food. Please comment on this in a future video...and thanks for doing what you do!
Deceptive labeling called "Lying" - loved this
Literally made me bust out laughing
Me, too. Sometimes Dr. Ekberg’s understatement is hilarious.

@@FictionCautious there are governments who set in place strict regulations that prohibit even the slightest lies
It is complicated. Labeling regulations, I don't remember the exact cutoff number, but if the "mg" is below a certain number, the label will round down. And even if it has a trace amount, like say 0.00001 grams, labeling requires you still list in ingredients. But the nutrition requires to be listed. And of course manuf will put 0g.
I have had few confusion when i saw processed food with 0 trans fat. I thought they were telling the truth. Oh, how naive I was!
Always trusted sterling advice from you and you've certainly been the game changer for me, life and health fully back on track, lifes a beach once again. Many thanks, Sir. Mark, England UK.

The real problem we get into here is that most of these foods are affordable and people on low, middle and fixed incomes have become dependent on them for cheap, easy meals.
Can't be more agree with you on this but dont you think the healthy industry producers are forcing the situation when marking so high their products
@@robertoperaza2683 Sure but people still have to eat in the meantime
@@robertoperaza2683 Pretty much. Healthier alternatives almost always cost more. My grocery shopping habits have always depended on my income. At times I wasn't doing as well I was glad things like canned soup and lunch meat were available.
Lentils, beans and fruit and veg in season are cheap too, but people like to eat junk instead
But some people spend their money on beer, cigarettes and marijuana so there is little left over for food so they stuff themselves with chips, soda and left over pizza slices when they feel hungry.

I raise my own beef chickens and pigs and have for years recently decided to stop buying seed oils (except olive oil) even considering grinding my own flour from home grown wheat. I can say even though my friends and family think we’re crazy health issue wise we’re in way better off than most.
Why would anyone think that's crazy?. That's the dream right there.

A nuance needs to be brought to your information that margarine was invented under Napolean's impetus. In fact, it is not THE Napoleon Bonaparte, who died in 1831 in prison, but his nephew, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte.
I’ve been saying this to my family and friends for a while now, but when I saw your video I said you know what 🤔 They may not want to listen to me talk about health all day, but they will watch the video. So I sent it to them. Thanks for the video.
LOL. I can totally relate. I tell wife: "you need to watch this video". Wife: "no, you watch it and tell me about it". So I tell her about the content and conclusions. Then she says that I'm not a doctor and don't know what I'm talking about.

I appreciate a lot of the information here, but working in agriculture I know there is very little food out there that is not hybridized in some way. Picking on wheat seems to be an easy target because it's our #1 staple grain. And so many other "buts" I could bring up, but not looking to start a debate. We have to take a balanced approach, looking at what can be produced and marketed in the most sustainable way. Many fundamental changes need to be made before we start telling the masses they have to eat differently. Even watching this and knowing how MSG affects my head, I'm not sure I'm ready to give up steak seasoning.

Nitrite in my country is a huge debate, with the industry fighting tooth and nails to defend its usage because its more convenient and cheaper. That being said, it's quite easy to find nitrite free products if you are a bit careful, or buy exclusively from the butcher/delicatessen/Deli shop.
I would like to know who the person was who said, “I’ll eat that insecticide… it tastes just like sugar!”
That's exactly what I thought when I got to that part!
Too bad sucralose was never intended to be a pesticide. That was debunked long ago yet people still say that lie. About as true as GMO's being created by sticking a syringe in an apple. Do you really think the scientist who discovered it would have tasted it if he was using it in any way to make a pesticide?
From Wikipedia:
“Sucralose was discovered in 1976 by scientists from Tate & Lyle, working with researchers Leslie Hough and Shashikant Phadnis at Queen Elizabeth College (now part of King's College London).[30] While researching novel uses of sucrose and its synthetic derivatives, Phadnis was told to "test" a chlorinated sugar compound. Phadnis thought Hough asked him to "taste" it, so he did.[31] He found the compound to be exceptionally sweet.”
So it wasn’t being developed as a pesticide per say, the company that discovered it was just trying to make novel compounds of sucrose to see what they do and one of the scientists thought his partner asked him to taste a newly synthesized compound with unknown properties. Still very dumb, but it’s not like he thought he was tasting poison.
he was /still is the person who prepared it - synthesis experts usually ingest their own products for sensoric testing (small amounts so they dont instanly die, of course). My prof at the uni (synthesis/organic chemist) had ingested methanol (the alcohol that makes you go blind) in small amount (concentration was about 1 mg/l which is 0,1% , the blindness occurs if you get 20-30 ml of 40% methanol) to determine the sensoric reaction and well, the shot was bad but alcohol taste was confirmed XD. Also, I have been asked if I can do sensoric testing of pharmaceutical carbon, but theres no way I would dare to do it.

First things heard some information from Dr. Sten Ekberg very understanding as presentation as well. Thanks!
You incorrectly call ethanol "wood alcohol." Methanol is wood alcohol.
indeed it is probably a text mistake, but it is correct what he meant aspartame breaks down to formaldehyde and methanol, methanol is toxic and can makes blind and to a certain degree kills you, ethanol is antagonist for methanol and if you accidently drink methanol then you need to drink alcohol (ethanol) to treat/ stop the toxicity of methanol.
He said and wrote ethanol incorrectly... Methanol is the correct word...
Methanol is the first alcohol that evaporates when distilling liquor and if it's is not properly removed before consumption it can bind to the ocular nerve and cause blindness. Back in the days of prohibition and when many people were distilling their own liquor (improperly) this was a real concern.
