- XOVERLAND was granted exclusive early access to a prototype 2024 Tacoma, Trailhunter grade so that we could put it through the paces of what any outdoor adventurer would do and more to ensure this vehicle was ready for release to it's most die hard fans and the masses.
We dreamed up a series of "adventure tests" that would mimic real life scenarios and be a comprehensive test of all the new features on the completely redesigned Toyota Tacoma Platform.
This video is a recap of our 6 part series already live on CZcams with more insights and reflections on how this vehicle performed as well as an extra test with a surprise snow storm that swept through Montana.
If you liked this video please watch the complete series here: • Trailhunter Special

Impatiently waiting for the official configurator to go live.
Thnx for having me again @Expedition Overland!
Amazing video as always ! Can't wait to build my very own, thanks for the insight.
Excited to see if they will bring this trim to new 4R. It’ll be difficult to decide between that and new LC if so
Good stuff!
I’m curious about water crossing how deep have you gone through as a hybrid? I don’t plan on super crazy going through water crossing thanks! I love your channel 👍
I'd like to see an impartial review. What's holding this truck up from being on toyotas website? I guess it's the same with the pro?
Looks like an amazing truck!! Hope it is within my price range. Definitely want the I-force max either way. Thanks for the great videos.
Hope you can afford $60,000.
I got my 2023 Tacoma Access Cab Off Road because of the V6 and clamshell doors. I bought one of the last 3 ACLB TRD OR on the island on 27 Jan 2024.
We need to see another live stream safe travels 👍
Very cool, I’m hoping to get the TRD PRO. Wish someone would have made a video like this for the PRO. But I hate being in the dark on release date and pricing. Not giving a hint on pricing has me believing it’s going to be extremely expensive.
Thank you for joining us for the Trailhunter Special! What is your favorite part of the 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter?
Clay, what’s the payload on this vehicle, as equipped? That’s an essential, but missing, bit of info to determine if it has the ability to be considered as a platform for multi month, transcontinental overlanding trips.
Toyota knows what its consumer base wants. The real enthusiasts know what a preproduction model entails and how these tests only benefit the consumer. If you want a testament that Toyota will get this right then watch the hours of footage XO has created featuring numerous Toyota vehicles exploring various terrains across the world without fail.
@@TFJ4runner Toyota does a lot of things right but they blatantly disregard a lot of things as well that many consumers would appreciate. Also comparing the Toyotas that clay and the team uses is pointless because they are so heavily modified for there needs of course they work for what they need. They also never really do anything crazy they are normally just driving on dirt roads with the occasional mildly rough road, But on that point Clay and the Team always put 35in tires on there rigs and thats one thing Toyota keeps ignoring and constantly makes its hard to fit event a 35 when other companies are making installing 37s with minor mods a standard. or not putting lockers on both front and rear on there hiest end model. Im not hating on toyota I am considering the trail hunter but they definitely don't listen to everything there consumer base wants.
This felt more like a Toyota commercial than a review. Zero complaints, criticisms? Really? Edit: They changed the title and removed the word review.
Can’t say bad things when you’re sponsored by Toyota
It's perfect 😌
How about those “2nd row” leg room ? 😂
Cry baby!! Just can't handle the truth !! Can yee
Agree, not s single con.
Haven’t seen one on the street yet…
What’s its average MPG?
Can’t stop thinking about the TFL video.
Once the hybrid battery is out, the turbo needs a replacement.
I wonder how this power train will do in Nigeria , Congo or deep down in Zambia….africa in General.
Wonder if Xoverland would go with the 5 or 6 foot bed?
They have always gotten DCSB with all their other trucks, so I’m guessing they will stay short bed.
Beautiful video, but it’s a commercial.
So you’re saying this is the perfect vehicle, nothing negative, nothing that needs to be improved or changed or anything like that? All positive?!?
Will you buy New 4Runner Trailhunter?
When will be able to order
loving your Africa adventures , and all the other ones but especially Africa. i'm probably buying a trail hunter end of the year or next year if i can find one and if i can find one not $25000 over MSRP in DFW !!!!!! curious about real world MPG though ( and yes i know it's not really accurate till at least 8000+ miles or the first service )
Not so much a deep dive but more show-boating. The only thing I learned about this truck was “generator mode” when pulling from the bed inverter. Nice story telling but buyers/depositors are over the wait on price/ETA/ADMs from greedy dealers
Why do you park with the right rear tyre on rocks elevated when you camp please?
To get the truck level for sleeping
@@jeremyzhang2504 Ah, that’s obvious 🤣 thanks. I thought it had something to do with fuel efficiency or something. Cool.
how is that float powered?
Outboard motor
@@projectmaldives tnx
It's good for cruising in Serengeti, tarangire, manyara and ngorongoro Tanzania
It's not a global vehicle. You are better off with the hilux, prado and the LC.Plus this is not a diesel.
They didn’t make for Serengeti or African my brother
next years tacoma will be powered by a lawn mower engine built by briggs and stratton.
….it would still get a positive review here.
A bloody info-mercial for Toyota. Everything you said may be your honest opinion and true, but this entire video has the feeling and credibility of a paid advertisement. sorry fellows but it doesn't feel legitimate.
lol!!!!! this particular vehicle with the hybrid powertrain hasnt even started production/sales its a prototype they are testing so im sure hes not going to tell us everything probably!
Concur. It’s no review of the actual name truck model.
Trailhunter looks amazing.goddamn money
We in the midwest still can't purchase this vehicle!!! ARGH!!!
Looks amazing. My only worry would be reliability of the new era engine.
And the ADD!
No braai tonight 😀chilling Cape Town
English translation please!
Take it on the Rubicon trail. 22 miles of the worst terrain. Then we’ll see how it really performs!
Im scared to see what the price is in Canada though 😂
I'd guess $70.000+ CDN
Yet Toyota won’t release them. Not even an MSRP. C’on. Really. I promise it’s not a 90k truck (math isn’t that hard even for an old Marine). If it is what it is I’ll preorder one now but my spidey sense tells me it’s not. And sadly, yes, it seems like a commercial. I love the content y’all produce. Keep doing it! I’m a bit on edge with this one. Shalom 🙏🏻
Doesn't give realiability vibes like my 3rd gen.
Customers need to boycott this 4th gen and for e Toyota to bring back the V6.
I’m confused. Is this a product review of your build, because it’s not a review of the “Trailhunter”. More so your manipulation of its frame to your not standard specs.
I hate "canned" videos. If it was garbage, we would hear "the bag is so great"
Watching people excited over the new gen Tacoma makes me sick. High tech over reliability is not the Toyota way. They have lost their ways. Watch Car Care Nut's review on this thing. Its not good.
You must be one of those lucky ones who received their Trailhunter 15 years ago so you could accurately make this determination. I'm sure your insider information is valued here. F****** nozzle...
U lie Car Care Nut’s review is very positive, he absolutely loves the truck except for its price
Yeah ok. What's msrp? $100k? We need affordable vehicles not fancy status symbols that'll never go offroad.
Rumor is Toyota will drop MSRP’s in April. We are close! Expect a higher MSRP than Ranger Raptor and Colorado Bison due to the more expensive hybrid drivetrain.
The truck is 100% perfect with no flaws? It’s a Tacoma infomercial. Viewers need to see through this smoke and mirrors production.
