- Is it worth the wait? The 2025 4Runner is here and we got a first look at the all-new redesigned 6th Gen!
The 6th Gen 4Runner has been anticipated for a long time and yes, we think it was very much worth the wait.
Boasting 465 ft. lbs. of torque, 326 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 6,000lbs, with the I-Force Max engine, the new drivetrain is taking power and overall drivability to the next level. An 8-speed transmission, rear locking differential, crawl control, 4x4, and DAC, make this an extremely capable machine.
Join Kurt Williams, Rachelle Croft, and Ryan Connelly as we get explore this fully resigned platform and talk about what we are most excited about. What are your thoughts? #xoverland #4runner #toyota

This was a great video. Kurt, thanks for the mention. 🙌
New 4Runner, and KURT IS BACK? What a day
I’m in love with the color ❤
First and foremost, I am a big fun of you guys. I was looking forward to hear your thoughts on the 6th generation and can't wait to see talking the new generation out to explore the wilderness. Again, love..love your show.
Thanks! Tough to give a lot of thought before we get to drive it. If it drives anything like the Trailhunter Tacoma, it's going to be a beast with a lot of power. We're excited to see what it's capable of for sure!
Looks awesome. I like that it’s sharing a platform with the new LC as well, that’s a good sign that Toyota is confident in it. Gonna be lots of cool interchangeable aftermarket parts coming.
The 5th gen was based on a landcruiser as well
Long wait, well worth it! I think Toyota is knocking them out of the park.
Sequoia awesome, new Tacoma great, LC beautiful, and now 4Runner. Especially the Trailhunter package.
Go buy one.
My first time hearing these two talk, and am an immediate fan. The points and items they discuss are things the common person doesnt likely care about. Only true enthusiasts or thinkers talk about these things.
Toyota obviously thought through these details, and it was worth the wait..(IMO)
I whole heartedly agree. Finally a review that was honest yet not a fan boy take. Plus I’m tired of hearing the complaints of the new 4 cylinder and the reluctance to change. Toyota had no choice but to do this due to emission requirements, and they def did their best to pay homage to previous gen’s which I appreciate
Kurt, Ryan, and Rachelle have probably forgotten more about Toyotas than most people ever know... Rachelle has taken the new Tacoma Trailhunter through some serious dunes and has the background of an accomplished off road racer. The comments about the difference between the Fox and Old Man Emu suspension are probably beyond many influencers. XO has experience with the i-Force Max hybrid in a Sequoia over probably 6,000 km off road in Africa, mostly towing a fuel trailer! Anyone that doesn't trust Toyota's hybrid reliability in these trucks isn't paying attention!
Can't wait to see one in your fleet!!
Nice 🎉 I'm excited for this
Great detailed info about the 6th Gen 4Runner that most other YT Influencers haven't mentioned. You all might have convinced me to buy the new 4Runner instead of the new LC 250. Thank you for producing this video!
Why is nobody mentioning the obvious which is the Land Cruiser is retro, the new 4Runner is not at all retro styled. Land Cruiser is is to compete with those who would buy a 4-door Wrangler or Bronco for the retro styling but want Toyota quality and brand image. Whereas, 4Runner is a more youthful spirit targeted vehicle.
Can't wait to see what you guys do with an lc250. I would love to see you using an lc250 for your next global expedition. Global product, easier spare parts availability.
Can’t wait to see XO Edition and the wrap
Long overdue, that's for sure!
Looking forward to Toyota giving more information on the TRD Off-Road trim
20 years in the making
The rear seats don't fold flat and nobody is talking about it because they're too cowardly to say anything negative about it but that's a pretty big con, especially for overlanding.
I would like to see XO back in Alaska but with new geard up TacomaTH and 4R TH ,that would make my day
That Everest color. Dam lit
Forreal. Such a great looking vehicle.
The engine bay looks like an alien nest.
Great review ! Love this machine. Maybe one day…
first question coming to my mind is: do we still need to chop front body to frame mount for bigger tires?, second - which trims have full 4x4 drive with central differential? 5gen only limited and up models have it....
Such a beautiful color! I'm surprised that the 4Runner's been around 4 a while! Very cool and awesome car!
"I'm surprised the 4 runner been around 4 awhile?!" Where were you all this time? they are everywhere you go in the streets
@@auctevia I didn't know that! Thnx for the info! The series was the only thing where I've seen it!
Do you live in an area where motor vehicles operate? @@delennfire1761
Nice detailed review! I’m not finding any info on the rear air. Any additional vents for passengers?
Do we know how the 2400w inventor will work with the new 4Runner? I seen how it would work with the Tacoma. But a common scenario I could see would be pulling an off road camper that has solar/battery and needing additional power due to whatever reason to recharge the onboard power on camper. Would this be something the runner could supplement?
nice review. luv the exterior and interior front. cargo area is a bit sad. cool on the built in air, but very sad it faces inward. how are you supposed to use it with drawers/fridge or any other cargo? would have loved mounts with accessory options instead of molded in cup holders for a missing 3rd row. get the raised bed, but unfortunate loss of height. still buying a standard engine offroad model after 3-4 year update that fixes some of the naggy stuff. really like 33's with no cutting!
Good video!
Loved this technical deep dive into this trim of the 2025 - thank you! Also think a lot less people are going to miss the gutless V6 granny engine then you think.
How much rear seat room is there vs a 5th gen 4runner?
Do you think the 9.5" diff is just bc its hybrid max? Maybe that was the only version they showed the hybrid in, rather than being trailhunter-specific. Reason I ask is b/c 465 ftlbs of torque is 64 more than even the 5.7L Sequoia had. So thinking that might be why the big diff...
i love it and it still looks like a 4runner
That looks amazing. When will the last episode of your Africa expedition be up ?
I was wondering when the taco would get a factory bed cap. Cool
I'm wondering if ARB is going to offer rear and front bumpers with the red recovery points like the Taco. Center console cool box availability and I do wish they would've figured out a way to have a completely flat rear area with the second row seats folded flat. It's still not perfectly flat like on my '06 Pathfinder. Also, I've yet to see anybody mention that hook that's below the grab handle on the passenger side that looks perfect for takeout bags to hang from. Also interested in color options. I do hope that desert tan color on the Pro will be available on the Trailhunter. It a perfect color for getting dirty.
We love Cruiser Kurt!
Does the LC250 or GX550 have the bigger pumpkin like the trailhunter?
Awesome new rig. So which would you choose: 250 Land Cruiser or 6th Gen 4Runner?
Looks Epic now you Bring it to South Africa for some testing 😀alot still to see here .
How did Toyota make the lower control arm level after a 2.5 inch lift kit?
DAMN that color looks good!! 😍
I have always liked the 4Runner. Currently am a Power Wagon owmer but this thing has some things i wish my truck had like additional aux switches and the on board air would be nice from the factory
It's Kurt!
I cant wait.... It might be like 3 years before I can get one due to markups and demand but I cant wait!
Great the see Kurt! Should have let Kurt lead the discussion and have the others in the background.
Is it better to have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. Have seen videos but just still grasp it. Had an Audi which was Quarro which which 4 all wheel. I guess if you do mind off reading then may be you do not want an all wheel. Is my understanding correct can you trurn 4 wheel drive.
Would the hybrid help in the snow? Great video, guys. Appreciate the info.
Having the hybrid also eliminates the hassle of adding a house battery for us folks who have fridges and so on..😊. Lots of possibilities
5:12 through 5:17 made me unexpectedly lol
Can you tell us what trim version that one with the white roof and round headlights was? Or was that a Heritage Land Cruiser (it was just a quick look)?
Yea that was LC. You can see it in other reviewers videos
Any info on how many CFM the onboard compressor moves???
STILL my dream car.. age 71 here,, this would be my Zombie apocalypse get away vehicle
😂
Is the hood scoop functional yet?
That Everest color and bronze wheel combo is great though.
Is that a water snorkel or just a dust snorkel?
guys im new to trucks can i leave the 4runner or tacoma at 4H al the time ?
Love if, want it. Is it coming to EU markets?
I see lights built into the rear hatch. 05:59 Nice feature!
Its very hard to not be bias as you guys working so closely to Toyota. I would prefer the 6 cylinder (the same 6 cylinder as the tundra) without a turbo and no hybrid over the 4 banger turbo hybrid. The battery eats up too much space.
The Tundra is a turbo, they had wastegate problems on the first Tundras.
@@J.Young808 I'd like to think they solved that problem and if they just used the 6 cylinder without the turbo it would distinguish itself from the gx and the land cruiser prado that should ideally have the 6 cylinder with a turbo which it does not. The 4 runner closed the gap between them and the bronco but the bronco still is a step or two above it. Especially since you can build a bronco with a v6.
I am not a fan of the 4.0--poor economy and performance. By comparison a supercharged 3.4 from the 3rd gen 4Runner made more power and torque and still get 19-20 MPG. Toyota hybrids are the best in the business and I feel confident it will be reliable. This is the first powertrain Toyota has produced since the SC'd 3.4 that gets me excited to own a newer Toyota.
Yes and I don't get that "Ohh it's a 4 banger with turbo it will not be reliable!". Toyota makes turbo engines for decades. They know how to do it and this engine is not new, it already has been tested in other vehicles. I want to see those guys and gals when this engine gets to 500k miles without any problems. And as you've said Toyota hybrids are the best in the business. Also there are first gen hybrid batteries that are at 70% after, what, 20+ years now? And that technology came a long way now
Notice all the fake cheesy marketing comments. It's such a joke. Notice all the cargo space lost to the batteries, of course you are going to need that roof rack to carry all the stuff that won't fit in the back. The big hump in the cargo area looks like putting them back there was an after thought. I'd rather have the 6 than a turbo. The dealer cold called me trying to buy my 3 Gen Tacoma, because they nobody wants the new models. I'm sure they'll be calling about our 4-runner as well.
Still no MPG ratings on the iForce max engines?
Meh. New is not necessarily better, but certainly more expensive. My first vehicle was a 1984 first gen 4Runner-The best vehicle I’ve ever owned . Simple and rugged. I think vehicles now are just over the top and have lost their original character and function. More electronics, more likely complications and headaches. Do they look good and drive well? Sure they do. But for the price tag and build quality, unfortunately I’ll pass, despite being a true lover of 4Runners. Middle class families are being pushed out of the truck and SUV market. 😢
This one doesn’t even look good! I know it’s a subjective thing but simpler is better, too many things going on with the looks
I take the 5th
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Toyota seem like really on point on recent release
Can it accept a full roof rack? Or is there an option for one from the factory? When I have a canoe on my 5th gen it sits really far back as the center of the canoe is behind the center of the roof. Also, how are these four cylinders performing in high torque situations seeing that it's one power stroke per 180 degrees of rotation? I'd have to know the truth of that before considering a 4 cylinder. HP and torque numbers are nice, but am I reving the engine to 5000 rpm for the equal power output that a v6 could do at 3700rpm or a v8 could do at 2500rpm? Serious question here.
Peak power and torque on these turbo vehicles are made at low rpms like 2500 rpm. Plus the hybrid options have instant torque. Just bc it's a 4 cylinder doesn't mean it's gotta be high in rpms to make power. Especially the hybrids.

These would be great in South Africa!
Ordered 2!!! Excited for this years adventure!!!
I’m curious to see the sr5 trim, these higher trims are nice but I’d like to see the sr5 trim what features it’ll have and whatnot.
Very nice power numbers. Do you happen to know the payload numbers for the Trailhunter and TRD Pro?
895 lbs. It's a joke.
@@frankboyer1490no different than before. The sticker on my 2021 TRD ORP is 880lbs.
@@XploreAz Except Toyota is literally calling this "Built for Overlanding". You'd easily pass that limit driving out for a day hike with a couple of your buddies and some gear.
@@frankboyer1490 I agree.
I’m not finding any info on the rear air. Any additional vents added to the roof?
The vents are in the rear of the center console by the charging ports. None in the roof.
any info on ground clearance?
Nice! Did they send you down to MX? Are they coming out of MX and not Japan ?
These are built in Japan.
Maybe mention what size tire / wheels ??
🔥🔥🔥
XOverland: At 23:00 the Tacoma Trailhunter card link does not work.
Interesting to not see all the different types of crawl modes. Really wana see the TRD off road premium option.
Nice! Can they please send this to South Africa?
Will 17 inch wheels fit?
Did they announce cargo capacity and payload? Curious how it compares to the LC.
895 lbs. It's a joke.
Dude, you and a 6th gen 4Runner were in my home town and no one told me?? ;-)
that Terrain Looks familiar to Somewhere near the Tecate California mountains, the toyota baja manufacturing plant would not be too far from there
Not sure if you mentioned it but are they still being built in Japan?
they are
Yup as always
Uhh it's Toyota so yeah, kinda a given.
@@SeanSquatchPNW a decent majority of toyota's vehicles are produced here in the usa
Crawl control?
Can you start engine? let's hear how it sunds. Like skuter ? or true car.
Hello from LA!
Any prices yet?
Need this in aus not a boring prado we get, plus should have a front locker as well
On the 5th gen limited my biggest complaint was 3rd row air conditioning outlets, none available.
i watched many 6th gen reviews so far and i don't see them being added, here in Florida we need more air conditioning for the 3rd row seating.
Same here in Arizona. I only see air vents behind the center console. None in the roof.
Admittedly, I'm old school. I over-landed from South Africa to the UK with a 1974 Land Rover a while back. So why, oh why, did Toyota add air-conditioned seats and a motorized rear tailgate to the 6th gen? Both are redundant added weight and a problem waiting to happen when they fail. I put them in the category of "unless luxe". On a positive note, love the look!
Can anyone comment on the additional weight of the hybrid vs the non-hybrid? I couldn't find weight specs.
I think I read that the hybrid battery pack is NiMH.....that can't be right???
1:14 what's music ?
IDK, if the V6 will be missed, people complained of it being anemic.
Looks good except for that big raise in the back of the storage area, made for overlanding and taking up storage space?Still hate that toyota refuses to make a car that can fit 35s without modification.
That raise is only in the hybrid because of the batteries.
@@XploreAz Yes and all trail hunters are hybrids from what I understand, so the model that is built for "overlanding" loses storage space. For a lot of people who really do like to overland storage is a pretty big deal even the smallest bit, so im just saying it was not a great engineering and design choice by toyota.
@@ah8953 I agree. That is the model I am most interested in. It’s going to take some finagling to make a flat sleeping area back there. 🤔
If not yet production models, PLEASE make it a full-length roof rack not partial.
Is it just me or does it seem like there is way less rear legroom in the 6th Gen in contrast to the 5th Gen?
Apparently Toyota forgot what SR5 stands for....
Next Xoverland Trip Back to South Africa the Western Cape & Eastern Cape ,Enjoy some Rainbow Trout fishing in Lesotho Highlands .
8:49 They got rid of the gas shocks for the hood?? That just seems cheap and lazy.
Something tells me xo had a hand in the design of the new 6 gen. Just a hunch
That's funny
Does it still have the infamous needle bearing?
This is the question… hopefully fixed.
Looks like an updated 4th gen
Sorta ya
The CZcams hype machine lol
I'll NOT give up my 5th gen for this lol, ever. That Glorious 4.O V6 is the pinnacle of reliability! I am (however) getting the GX550 Overtrail, but keeping my 4Runner, just like I still have the FJ Cruiser my dad bought for me, 13-14 years ago, when I was 16 years old! They will both be worth a fortune, eventually lol
Same reason I'm not giving up my GX460. May upgrade to a newer year but these new turbo engines are unproven......for now.
@@waynerhodes5456 The twinturbo V6 is in their full-sized vehicles and trusted in the Land Cruiser 300 Series! I just don't want big heavy 4Runner with the same 4 cylinder engine as Toyota's small Square market cars lol
The clowns are a Toyota marketing department, getting free vehicles.
Nothing they say should ever be considered objective, or even truthful
