      I mean when you think about it any animal terminology we use doesn't ever apply in pokemon since they don't actually have arachnids in their worlds. If you think about it all the titles for pokemon don't really make sense. Like pokemon being classified by the pokedex as bagworm pokemon since... well there is no such thing as a bagworm in the pokemon universe. Same for arachnids, technically the term doesn't exist in that world, hence why they can take the liberty of making them look different from our world's arachnids.

    I personally think that the Bug-type represents the "Arthropod-type" the same way how there used to be a Bird-type that they then renamed because things fly other than birds. There are things that are Bug-like that aren't just insects: like spiders, isopods, and hermit crabs. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we get a Bug-type Horseshoe Crab or Sea Monkey. This also explains Shuckle because if Shuckle is based on a Crustacean (a Barnacle) it would be in line with the other crustacean bug types.

      “Bugs” are an actual type of insect too, eg: assassin bug, kissing bug, stink bug. Since the name has been kinda washed out, we call them “true bugs” now. Think of it as calling a bee a butterfly when people say “that fly is a bug”, when that is not the case lol.

    Genesect was a Genesect. It's just that modern day people modified it with technology so it can survive in modern times. So presumably, it's original form would look similar to it's current form. Just without looking like tech.

    In Japanese, crustaceans like crabs (蟹) and shrimps (蝦) use the 虫 character which means bug which is probably why they refer to them as bugs.

    • @Thesaurus_Rex
      @Thesaurus_Rex Před 6 lety +3

      Yeah, part of why I'm annoyed by this is because the Bug/Water type is a really cool combination that we've only really seen used to its potential in generation VII (yes, Surskit is gen III, but it wasn't really...using Bug/Water to its potential). Araquanid and Golisopod are really neat Pokemon, and I feel like Krabby, Clauncher, Kingler, or Clawitzer would appreciate having the second type to help them stand out from the plethora of other mono-water types (though Clauncher and Clawitzer already have a degree of uniqueness).

    Merriam Webster has several definitions for bug. The ones that typically apply to bug types are. ": any of an order (Hemiptera and especially its suborder Heteroptera) of insects (such as an assassin bug or chinch bug) that have sucking mouthparts, forewings thickened at the base, and incomplete metamorphosis and are often economic pests- called also true bug" and "any of various small arthropods (such as a beetle or spider) resembling the true bugs." By the second definition, most of the Pokèmon in the not sure catagory are bugs. Ignoring that definition also excludes many pokèmon in the other catagories.
