Fun fact about Arbok and Ekans: They could also be based off of the mythical basilisk, a poisonous dragon that could kill victims with a stare, which would correlate with their ex-signature move, Glare, and Arbok's weird placing in the dragon egg group.

Nope, because coffee is digistable, unlike normal animal based toxins

Victreebel isn't based on the corpse flower; it's based on a pitcher plant. Its poison typing references the pool of acid used to digest bugs inside the base of a pitcher plant's cup.

Logically speaking, shouldn't Poison-Types be allergic to Pecha Berries?
That would be way too logical
That's not necessarily true. Just like a man can drink snake venom and be perfectly fine (the digestive system breaks it down into harmless things before it enters the bloodstream), a Poison Pokemon could eat a Pecha berry or drink an antidote and just digest it harmlessly.
oh my god.
It depends on EXACTLY what the pecha berry does.

Uh.. isn't Roserade based on Hellbore, a poisonous plant that maskaRADEs as a ROSE? The fungus thing was cool, but there was a far simpler explanation.
Ento: The Chesnaut Knight that would be nice, if Hellbores were actually red or blue, like the line, but they aren't, in fact they only appear in green, white, and pink shades.
Helios Extras that's why Roserade's head 'rose' is white. Budew and rosalia are based on the idea of splitting a flower stem and putting it in colored water and making it two different color rose colors
Eevee TheAnimeQueen few things, first, where is it stated that Roselia is based off water dying roses? Just because they're colored different? There are red and blue roses.
Helios Extras bird keeper Toby said it a while back
Just a tiny nit pick, but blue roses don't occur naturally. Roses that actually look blue are actually white roses that have been dyed. The closest thing to a genetically modified 'blue' rose actually looks more mauve or lilac in color. The gene required to create a blue pigment does not exist naturally in roses. And it isn't exactly impossible to dye a white rose red either. So...maybe not such a small nitpick

It's hard to me to distinguish venomous and poisonous , cuz' in Spanish (my native language) we say "Venenoso" to both of them, and I've never had in mind the word venomous. BTW, Thanks for explaining the difference. You make great videos, I love this class of videos.
Actually in Spanish venomous is "ponzoñoso", but we simplify it and we call Venenoso to everything if it has any kind of toxin
Mario Mejia in Portuguese (my native language) we say “venenoso” as well
the same thing here in Brazil
No se usa mucho en el español pero se dice "ponsoñoso" cuando en ingles es "poisonous" y "venenoso" en ingles es "venomous" solo que se usa mal el termino a diario😉✌

Shaun Meldrum You are a certified genius
Shaun Meldrum Three reasons Gamefreak would not make a radioactive poison type: Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Fukushima.

Fun fact: Scorpions are actually arachnids and not insects
Yeah, pretty obvious
The term you want is "Arthropod". This is the Phylum.
Aracnids (spiders and scorpions) belong to the "Arachnid" Class. True Insects belong to the "Insect" Class. Millipedes and centipedes are different Classes, but I do remember they belong to the same "Subphylum", which I remember translates to "Many Legs" because, well, they have many legs.
And yay! My crippling student debt allows me to help people on the internet! *goes under a blanket to cry*

As a proud Dragalge trainer, I think you skipped over its poisonous secretions. From a gameplay perspective, it comes with either the Poison Point or Poison Touch ability, which has a 30% chance of poisoning the opponent if it gets hit with or uses a physical attack, respectively, implying it has some sort of poisonous coating on its skin or other body part as well.

bryan diaz varela Fun fact, that was actually the original idea that Takeshi Shudo (first head writer of the Pokemon anime) had for the series. His original idea for the third Pokemon movie would have involved Ash and the gang discovering a dinosaur fossil. Not the fossil of a dinosaur Pokemon, but the fossil of an ACTUAL TYRANNOSAURUS REX, which would have been a huge discovery in the Pokemon world as it would have implied that there existed creatures before Pokemon.
Benji T. And the fact that Pokemon entries also say (depending on the Pokemon, of course. Not all of them are based on animals) ”the *insert animal here* pokemon”. For example ”Pikachu, the mouse pokemon, ” how would they know what a mouse is if only pokemon exist? People make the descriptions in the pokemon world, its not like the pokemon told humans ”hey, we are this kind of pokemon” (maybe they did, who knows. Unlikely though). So I have always been confused about that
... Donphan.
Actually some of you guys you’re wrong but slightly right, the thing is is that about a couple months ago somebody release the beta disk for Pokémon red and blue, and there was supposed to be a Pokémon from generation one that was supposed to be based off of an Indian elephant, but they took it out probably due to the game not having enough memory storage to fit that Pokémon in, And that’s why instead of the name of that Pokémon they just decided to go with Indian elephant
That picture he chose was an African elephant btw
I'm pretty sure the whole "Poison" thing is just a localization thing. There are some languages where there is only one word for both Poison and Venom. In Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and even German, Gift, means both Poison and Venom.

I still find it weird that bug type isn’t weak to poison type
It makes sense to be tbh, since bugs typically have a venom or poison themselves. However if there was a poison and a venom type separately then it’d make sense to me
Used to be. Dunno why it stopped.
The theory goes that the removal of poisons superefective nature on bug types to reflect the real world, where the over use of pesticides leads to the species resisting or becoming immune over several generations. As the ones susceptible to the poison die and the individuals less affected go on to reproduce and build up the speacial immunity. That's evolution for ya.

11:08 This video’s a few years old, but now I’ll always hear Muk having the voice of the Heavy if it ever actually spoke (Mystery Dungeon probably). It fits too well.
So interesting fact about spider bites. Very few spiders are actually very venomous to humans.
And the necrosis that was once attributed to spider bites has recently become known to actually come from flesh eating bacteria which live on the spiders themselves and not the venom.
TheDerpyDragonair actually the brown recluse was the center of that study. The actual venom of the brown recluse was determined to be non toxic to humans.
A lot of the harmful spiders come from Australia and Brazil.
we have like 2 deadly spiders in australia and one them is only in one state
Yeah, but its also the deadliest spider to humans.
+LUKE Actually, it's not; I mentioned Brazil because the Brazilian wandering spider is deadlier than the Sydney funnel web. The other one (according to piarate king) would be a subspecies of the black widow spider known as the redback spider, although no-one has died from redback bites since antivenom became available almost 60 years ago.
Is the Grass type next?
Ethanol 314 yes please!
How many of them are actually grass?
+armaggedon390 I can not think of any that are actually grass type
Up
That would be fun to talk about.
In gaming terms poison is a defensive stat and venom is a damage dtat
4:10 Yes finally, after all these years of playing TF2
Fun Fact: almost every pokemon who can learn TMs can learn the move [Toxic] so does that mean almost all pokemon can produce toxins?
The Friendless Spy Nah, it's just to give Pokemon more utility
'Nother fun fact: That could make people poisonous, or even venomous too. ᴬˢ ᶦᶠ ᵖᵉᵒᵖˡᵉ ʷᵉʳᵉⁿ'ᵗ ᵗᵒˣᶦᶜ ᵉⁿᵒᵘᵍʰ! Some cultures have found a way to spit various toxins onto people, usually to blind them.
Chaos89P You have to first ingest those toxins and or store them somewhere, so humans are not toxic. Though human saliva can cause infections because of the bacteria
Mr. ElectriDictator "Humans aren't toxic" have you seen a gaming community?!?
Chaos89P HOW DO YOU MAKE TINY TEXT?!
12:10 There's a humungus foongus amoongus XD
Btw, how worried do I have to be about mushrooms? Lately, I've seen a lot of them, and I don't want mushrooms inside my lungs...
Most Mushrooms in first world countries are perfectly fine to be around, just dont eat them. There are only a few jungle mushrooms to be worried about.
Alright, thanks
Gen 8 has upped our Poison total up to 71, adding Galarian Slowbro and Slowking, Eternatus and it's Eternamax form, Toxel, Toxtricity, and the Gigantamaxes of Venusaur, Gengar, and Toxtricity.
As of SWSH, there are 69 (nice) Poison Types.
Toxicroak most likely had inspiration for it's sharp bits from the hairy frog, which uses its bones as claws when threatened, protruding them from its skin
11:08 LOL was that the sound from the TF2 heavy eating a sandvich? XD
eksmad it was XD
That was delicious.
Yes it was
Motor fuel make ME strooong!
Poison as a concept is high-key my favorite type and I wish it was used more
i love at 1:58 it is a ghost type background for a poison type vid
Fun Fact: some species of moth can secrete cyanide onto thier legs, although those mothe are usually very rare and exotic.
So, poison is a toxin delivered passively, whereas venom is a toxin delivered actively. {P}oisons are {p}assive. Got it!
Also, 'hyperkalemia' is literally 'overmuch Potassium,' which is an interesting distinction from generic paralysis... Hey, Gnoggin! Could you make a video on how different Pokémon moves cause paralysis--and maybe how Paralyze Heal might work, and how Limber actually works in combating paralysis? (If you haven't already, of course!)
Thunder Wave, most other Electric-type moves and Tri Attack all cause paralysis through either ventricular fibrillation or nervous system problems caused by electrocution; Body Slam, Force Palm and Bounce all cause paralysis through a lot of force being applied to the victim's body; Glare leaves the target paralysed through fear; Lick leaves the victim paralysed with disgust; and the powder from Stun Spore is a neurotoxin. I don't know why Dragon Breath and (sometimes) Secret Power causes paralysis, but some circles may say the cause is magical.
secret power im not sure on, but i think dragon breath could cause paralysis from possibly the dragon breath having a toxin in it? it could also be a joke on dragons having bad breath.
Dragon Breath probably paralyses for reasons similar to Lick: Disgust
For Secret Power: Depends on the area it gets the paralysis effect from, and I do not know enough about every potential cause in each area (Buildings, roads, Link Battles, Electric Terrain, Sky Battles, plain terrain and the Distortion World) to explain that.
The Limber ability could be due to a specialized nervous system that can change its chemical functions if it detects changes in its body chemistry, like when a danger causes your body to supercharge itself with adrenaline.
Oh hey! Kinda funny to see my own art on the thumbnail of one of your videos lol!
I just thought up an idea for the platypus fully evolved water starter to be water poison with a lot of fighting type moves that revolve around kicking. Maybe it could even have an ability that kick moves do stab damage or have a chance to poison
What I took away from this video is that when you get bitten by a snake, you need to let a bat bite you and vice versa.
Wait, so if I get bitten by a bat and lose blood, I should then get bitten by a venomous snake? o_0
tjallan53149 Well it does clot your blood. Too much.
Gamefreak should make a poison/bug Pokemon base off jack-jumpers (a ant) called ponomamex coming from the Greek words ponos(pain), alma(jump) and myrmex(acid spitting ant like creatures from Greek mythology)
Note: jack-jumpers aren't toxic, but their stings are painful. Trust me, I've been on the receiving end. Plus, some people have allergic reactions so... yeah. I believe bullet ants (which have the most painful sting out of any ants) don't cause any reactions.
no but bullet ants hurt a LOT worse..... thats 4 hours of my life wasted on a couch
Can we please have an incredibly in-depth guide for Gulpin and Swalot? Please and thank you.
The guitar riffs in the venomous part of the video is so badass
Gnoggin: ...Necrosis.
Me: Sounds like necrozma now doesn't it, more clues!
Jerzy Weiss Because of the Prefix Necro, which means Death or Corpses
Sean Dewar thanks for that quick little English lesson, anyway it's still cool to see pokemon can still name their monsters very cool names ( seel not withstanding)
Technically that was a Latin lesson. Necro is Latin for death.
Calhare Sirros I feel the odd1sout said it best about Latin " The first most useless class was latin, you know that dead language no one speaks". ( No offense to anyone who likes Latin, this is just my personal opinion and James's)
well it is a dead language, in a seance. its used for scientific classing, like animal genomes. because it no longer evolves. but at the same time, Latin BECAME English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and German. So the legacy of Latin lives on.
6:02 The "Viagra venom" one is a spider. Not a scorpian I think.
Wavorn Snowber
Apparently there are both boner scorpions and spiders.
The Nidoran family's name is partially based off Cnidarians (silent c because Greek root) which is a taxa defined by venomous barbs. This is the group that jellyfish and sea anemones belong to, so you could argue that the Nidoran family is closely related to the Tentacool and Merenie lines.
Funfact about roserade. In the shield pokedex entry it states that roserade has 2 types of poisons: one that's slow acting and one that's fast acting while both are lethal.
Next: every multi-headed pokemon explained o/
SteelTypeNULL YES!
OMG THAT WOULD INVOLVE A LOT OF FOLK LORES!!!
Poison is so savage.
Salazzle is the most terrifying with its real world implications. It releases a neurotoxin that triggers some part of the male brain making them intensely attracted to them regardless of species, even humans can fall under it. At the same time (as far as we know this only accounts for Salandit under her spell) they will be so completely subservient to the female that poisoned them that they will skip out on meals to make sure she is well fed and happy. Like imagine a female lizard that is thirsty like you would not believe pulling you in with her mind altering poison so she can have her way with you whenever she wants and you feeding her even if it means you might go without eating and your poisoned mind can’t even comprehend the fact that this is dangerous to your health.
Fist-of-doom It’s terrifying until someone uses Earthquake
Terrence Crawford. I find it really annoying when people just do toxic stall
I love Seviper. Vipers are one of my top 5 favorite animals. Snakes are so cute. I got stung by a box jelly a few summers ago had to be rushed to the hospital. I wasn’t mad it’s just it’s nature. It was extremely painful though. I also want an Ice/poison type.
I actually made a platypus fakemon starter for a region based on Australia that could either be water poison or just water depending on gender
