Me personal theory is that Red was told by Sabrina that a trainer as strong as him would one day appear at Mt. Silver, so Red went to train there. This would make sense as Sabrina says in the games that she saw a vision of us but didn’t expect our power.

My headcanon is quite simply that Red was not cut out to be the public figure that the championship title demanded. Once he was champion, there was no avoiding the attention, so he went to the only place that nobody else would reach him, at least for three years. Then some damn kid found him and ruined that hiding spot too.

In Gen 1, Oak mentions that the Pokedex writes itself. It's possible that Mew and Mewtwo were simply unaccounted for until Red encountered them, catching Mewtwo first followed by Mew. The previously-existing Pokemon could have had their orders defined by Oak or other researchers, since they were more well-known and better-documented.
In the manga, Red goes to Mt. Silver to recover in some special hot springs there, after having been frozen in ice for a long period of time. That never happened in the games, though, so that reason isn't relevant there. My personal theory is that he was looking for rare Pokemon (possibly Mew but idk), and/or maybe he released Moltres there recently (you can find Moltres in Mt. Silver in HGSS).

Isn't the area just around Red in Mt.Silver one of the only areas in the original games where you can catch a wild Pupitar?
Personally I think it's as simple as this: Red never stopped being himself, he's still on his own PkMn journey, and we're bumping into him while he's out there looking for a pupitar to eventually add Tyranitar to his team.

I don't think Red having an Espeon is a reference to manga Red's eevee; namely, because the reason manga Red's eevee evolved into Espeon was *because* he had an Espeon in GSC - it only appears as Espeon during the GSC arc, in the second or so volume no less, well after GSC was out. It's more likely to me that the Espeon (both in the games and manga) is meant to be the Celadon Mansion Eevee, which they evolved into one of the new GSC Eeveelutions to show off the mechanic.

@@timwoods2852 But you still have to use a glitch that nobody knew about for nearly 20 years to access Mew that early. A glitch. Sure, Mew was approved. But think about this. They had to cut so much of the game so the rest would fit on the already dated cartridge Nintendo was dead set on using. Mew was unfortunately one of the cuts. That or they planned near the end to make it an Event Only Pokémon. Either way, it does not change the fact that the other guy was right, despite being a "Tough Guy" Know-it-all loser.
Your theory is also wrong I hate to say it. There's no hint of Mew even hoping to find or "test" anyone pure of heart anywhere in Kanto. How do I know this? Simple. Despite having access to the game's sloppy excuse for code, not one person has found anything that points to Mew being an in-game event of any kind or even looking for "Pure Hearts". There's no text on Mew even existing outside of the Manor in Cinnabar Island (Unless I'm forgetting another source in-game?). Even then, it's all so vague, you can't really make out what Mew is supposed to be (assuming you're the trainer that finds the old text in the manor and not the irl person that either waited 30 years for answers or figured it out like a Noir Film detective). Of course, I hope I'm not missing context here, because if I am, then I'll look like an ass next.

Red was training. Because the pokemon on Mt. Silver are very strong compared to other location on Johto and Kanto Region. Since he was the champion on both region, he got the access there so he won't let the chance slide. As for why he was disappear after the battle was most likely he knew what the Gold/Silver/Crystal MC is good enough as the champion, so he went to travel the world and to train his pokemon and challenge more strong trainer.

Nice video Birdy Keeper Tobi. I like the theory of Professor Oak sending Red to Mt.Silver to find Mew and keep it safe. Mt. Silver is one of my favorite places in Johto since it represents overcoming adversity and ultimate strength. I would like to see Kanto get a Pokémon Legends game that focuses on Mew and Mewtwo where you are a young Pokemon trainer going on a expedition with Mr.Fuji to find Mew and create Mewtwo. It could explore more of Team Rocket’s history in Kanto, Mew’s history and Mr.Fuji’s reason for creating Mewtwo.

... but MewTwo was created by Team Rocket (or by scientists influenced by mafia money for the purposes of making the "Ultimate" Pokémon/Weapon). So it'd make literally no sense to create a MewTwo in the Ye Olde times of Kanto when the tech simply did not exist. Hell, Professor Oak even mentions that Poké Balls didn't exist until he was well into his adult years. They had to use Apricorns to catch 'mons. Which wasn't all that reliable in the first place. AND were rare outside of Johto.
Otherwise, I would agree to that. I'd enjoy exploring Kanto's lore and history since it was my first set of Pokémon games (yes, I'm old, sue me- in fact, I'm not much older than the Franchise).

I don't think he was doing just one thing. We know that Red did finish the original Pokedex up to 150 by catching Mewtwo, but then we are able to find Mewtwo uncaptured in G/S/C and HG/SS which implies that Red didn't keep every Pokemon he captured and only held onto those that he held a special bond with. It's entirely possible that he was in fact on a mission to track down Mew to complete his Pokedex, but I think his more immediate intention was to train his team. He didn't know what it was he was in for whenever he did find number 151, and after encountering Mewtwo and other Legendaries he was probably all too aware that there was a possibility of this being his biggest challenge yet. Red's not one to be caught unprepared, he's one of the most skilled Pokemon trainers ever.
Important to note is that you don't encounter him just anywhere, but specifically at the peak. He's standing around the area that you would probably be expecting to encounter a Legendary Pokemon, but I don't think there was ever one there to begin with, and I doubt that he came here to find one. Rather, I think he was looking for an extreme environment to train his team at. He knows his team is strong enough to take it, but he wants them stronger. Strong enough to handle anything that gets thrown at them. I strongly believe that Red's true passion is for his team to be the very best that ever was, and he's not content to let their strength be stagnant. When you speak to him, Red doesn't speak back. He says nothing at all. It's as though Red doesn't just see another person in front of him, he sees an opportunity to put the fruits of his training to the test. When he loses, he's likewise silent and simply walks off without a word. Almost as if he's off to find somewhere else to train, to grow his team even stronger.
I've always imagined that he doesn't even speak during the fight itself, that his bond with his Pokemon is so powerful that through mere gestures and facial expressions they know exactly what his commands are and are completely in synch with him. He could very well be an anomaly of sorts; someone who seeks power, but not just for selfish purposes, and who's bond with his Pokemon is indisputable. He's the exact opposite of early game Silver, who is harsh and cruel to his Pokemon and releases those who are too weak for his standards. Red doesn't simply see his Pokemon as tools. They are his precious partners that he's been through thick and thin with. Perhaps Red might even be a kindred spirit of N, who cares about Pokemon more than people, but not to the extent of being villainous. I'd like to know what N's opinion of Red would be should the two ever cross paths one day. I imagine they'd be fast friends.

    • @MLPIceberg
      @MLPIceberg Před 7 měsíci +1

No, they wouldn't. Why? N wants to release every Pokémon, even after being betrayed by Ghetsis (Vote Ghetsis 2024! Props to whoever gets that reference) and try to befriend Pokémon the Au Naturale way. Red has precious partners that he CAPTURED. With Poké Balls. Red would also fight hard to keep his precious friends by his side while N would try his best to force Red to release them. Maybe they do share similarities, but in the end, they'd clash too.

My own theory lies literally under Mount Silver, because in the Gen2 games, Mount Silver is the location where you can catch one of the legendary birds instead of its Gen1 location. So I figured that Red might be after the bird looking for it from Mount Silver where it was last seen, but Red don't know that Ethan, Crystal or Lyra will catch it first.

Since everyone else is sharing their theories: I've mentioned it elsewhere but I think its possible Red is simply there for training....after having lost his title of Champion.
This is partially using info from the remakes, but Lance did get legitimately stronger than he used to be in the first games, obviously; but it might have been strong enough to have actually defeat Red in a challenge match. If Red had simply left, it would be stange that Blue didn't step into the empty slot, considering he did remain with the League to be a gym leader. And this is reflected in how Lance's team actually caps at higher levels than Blue's does in their rematch teams, it seems obvious Lance had at least become a stronger trainer than Blue at that point.
Pair that with how Lance reminisces over entering the Hall of Fame as a proud moment for him and his claim that he's "the most powerful trainer" of the region despite normally bring a pretty humble character, and it paints the picture that he had actually earned that title, rather than be handed it by Red simply up and leaving.
Plus it vaguely resembles a moment in the manga where Red is defeated by an E4 member after becoming Champion, though there its Bruno instead of the stronger Lance.
And for Red this would mean he would go into training to become even stronger, to the point he's at the level we see him at on Mt Silver. But who comes by to battle him before he returns for any rematch: the player. And the player defeats him, showing there will always be even further to go, or maybe showing that you can grow even stronger venturing into the world out there, rather than holing up in one remote place away from everyone (would explain why he suddenly starts hanging out with his old friends again after that, despite disappearing for a year or two beforehand).

I think that Red just grew bored after becoming champion. Having completing pokedex, defeated Team Rocket, and if you want consider events of Fire Red, he even fought Lugia, Ho-Oh and Deoxys but did not catch them.
Red was so powerful that he released the legendary birds, Mew and Mewtwo because it was no fun to use them in battle since they are too strong.
Also, Red is seen to have some kind of Power Thirst, as Oak said to Cynthia in pkm Masters: "Red is never satisfied with its own power"
So I would imagine he wants more challanges to grow stronger, that is why he go to the toughest place in Kanto and Johto to train not just his pokemon but probably himself in the wilderness.
I would imagine Red having a personality similar to Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling.

Hoooo boy. This is an absolute stretch.
Oak's permission being required reflects on how climbing Mt. Fuji is dangerous. Red is in Mt. Silver because it is dangerous and poses a challenge for him to further his own journey. He has Espeon because it represents the Eevee you obtain in Celadon City, only it evolved through the power of friendship.
Literally nothing about Red being in Mt. Silver has anything to do with Mew. And the reason why Mew's entry comes after Mewtwo is because information about Mew was recorded after Mewtwo, since Mew was considered to no longer exist.
