- I've heard good things about Pokémon Platinum. I'm hoping it will give me a refreshing experience of the Sinnoh Region after the not-so-great Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl remakes.

“Was it really that good?”
Well I ate my copy so yeah I’d say so
What did it taste like?
Like memories
Did you cook it first?
It tasted amazingly, but unfortunately, it didn't agree with my digestive system (I have a prolapsed anus)

One day it will be studied how Gamefreak, over two different era's of pokemon found a way to ROYALLY screw up sinnoh's flagship games in D/P, BD/SP but then make side projects for the same gen in Platinum and Legends Arceus that are universally viewed top 5 pokemon games ever. Its incredble.
It probably helped that they are essencially just unity-conversions of DP
Not to mention explorers of sky came out this gen too, which I personally think is one of the best Pokémon games over
@@barr4ckObama240 There's enough diffrence.
Legends Arceus only looks "good" as it was bc of how bad they royally screwed up BDSP
But if Legends Arceus was released without S/V or BDSP, no one would even think it looks good
@@gaius5901 Hard disagree, but I guess each to their own opinion
Platinum, HG/SS and both of the BW/BW2 games were peak pokemon games
What i would do to be 12 years old again with a DSi and pokemon
BW and BW2 are worst pokemon games.

The distortion world tried to simulate 3d in a 2d game. It is a shame that the remakes didn’t fulfill that vision of the game.
The gen 4 "overworld" was actually already in 3d, just a very subtle one. The battles were 3d first time in gen 5. Both were still pixel art, however they were 3d. So in conclusion: no it did not simulate 3d, it was 3d
I will always speak highly of Platinum. DP is completely different from Platinum. Like I hate going into buildings in DP. They are so bland, and Platinum fixed that with ease.
True, but honestly, I just wish they added more repeatable content to some of the cities, like Canalave, Eterna or Snowpoint
Platinum fixed a hell of a lot more that DP lacked.
One of my favorite memories I had playing this game was not paying attention to the dialogue, and didn’t know where to go after the 6th gym. So I ended up spending that time in the restaurant in the resort, battling. By the time I figured out how to continue the story, my Infernape and Lucario were mad OP for the rest of the game.
Then I got humbled by Cynthia.
Good times.
Naming your Pokémon after relatives pets and friends is such a sweet thing to do
Platinum is definitely one of my favourite games from the main series, happy to see you cover it on the channel 👍
I really hate how the remakes got the short end of the stick. Gen 4 was my first generation and my favorite so it really hurt me when I played the remakes.
Am I seriously the only one who likes BDSP?
...Nah. I can't be. They outsold Platinum and are the best selling Pokémon remakes, after all.

That opening music gave me a shot of nostalgia and I miss being 9 years old living with my parents and sisters in our first house and having no care in the world
The contests, bases, and the villa were my favorite parts of this game
I’ve been playing Platinum on my Steam Deck with RetroAchievments.
And I gotta say, Retroachievements really does make it feel like a new experience. Going through the game and unlocking new achievements feels so satisfying, and has had me doing things that I either never would have otherwise, or things I straight up didn’t know existed!
Like, never before had I messed with Jubilife’s lottery system, or spent so much time figuring out the mechanics in the Game Corner with that Clefairy minigame. It’s such a fun way to return to a childhood favorite.
My first entry was Diamond btw, my brother’s was Pearl.
I’ve never thought about replaying it with achievements, that sounds really interesting!
I don't have steam deck, can you explain me what's retro achievements ?
@@sullyg9342 It’s a community driven website that makes achievements for pretty much any system that lacked them, so you can play all your old favorites and earn achievements in them, just as you would with modern games on modern consoles. It’s a fun way to track your progress, and also to tackle challenges that you may not have otherwise.
You basically just make an account on the website, then sign into that account through your emulator. Plenty of emulators support it now, like Retroarch, PCSX2, PPSSPP, etc.
Plus, as an added feature, it adds scoreboards for loads of games. So for example you can play the SSX games and your fastest run will be put up against everyone else’s.
Also there are site wide rankings, so it’s fun to see where you land amongst the rest of the community. You earn points by getting achievements in your games, and some achievements are obviously worth more than others. For example, in Pokemon Platinum the “Mine Diamonds” achievement is earned for getting the first badge. It’s not that hard so it’s not worth that much. But the “App Enthusiast” achievement, for getting all the Poketch apps, is a lot harder, so you earn way more points for getting it.
It makes earning those harder achievements feel so much more satisfying. Especially because you can see how many people actually manage to get each achievement, so that Poketch achievement, for example, only has 5% of players managing to unlock it.
Edit: You also get a cool little pop up every time you unlock an achievement, which for whatever reason my brain really enjoys.
@@sullyg9342 I think my comment got deleted for some reason, which is a shame because I spent a while on it.
But there’s actually an excellent video on CZcams that explains it super well called “what are retroachievements” if you’re curious.
That's a really cool concept, I'll have to check it out!
Hope you see the shiny clefairy at the game corner!
Man all this love of platinum and you didn't even touch the extensive post game. Not just the battle frontier but new routes and hundreds of new pokemon and areas
Preach! That was really amazing too! And compared to the normal routes the difficulty of the terrain really makes you think that you are one of the best that you can survive that kind of rough environment
There was always something about the sinnoh region, the starters, the music, everything. This was my childhood! Wish I could go back in time to these days
I'm glad I was finally able to experience Pokémon Platinum. I hope you enjoy the video!
By the way, if the person who stole my Nintendo DS and my copy of Pearl all those years ago is watching this...
I will send Giratina to your house. Be afraid.
I cant stop thinking of Vinesauce's "Dear little Johnny, there will soon be ghosts in your living room" for your end quote

@EchonoxYT oh dang mine was Scott elementary. It would've been so crazy if it all connected.
In 2010, I played Platinum for the first time on my ds. I was three (I fret you not), and I remember picking Piplup because it looked like a tv show character
I really enjoyed the more personal/sentimental connections you made to your experiences playing Pearl as a kid, I think it added a lot of personality!
Keep up the good vids, glad to see you’re back 🤙
need a platinum remake rn
Looking back at it, it's obvious they kept some pokemons for Platinum that weren't featured in D/P national dex.
Worst example is probably Magmortar, it's a brand new one and they had only 2/5 fire types for the fire Elite 4, there's no way they'd forget to put him in.
Despite the fact that they were not selling well, 3rd version are nowadays the best way to experience those games, I'm glad they were a thing in the early gens.
I love Hikari's DP dress more than her Platinum dress. I still agree that Platinum is better than DP by gameplay and PokéDex. It might have sucked that the Manaphy giveaway events were for DP. It is cool that you can mark the Pokémon as seen from a mansion.
Action replay to get the events like regigas and secret key makes this game the best
I still play Platinum today on my DS. Such a rich experience that I never get tired of. So far clear of any other Pokémon game for me, and maybe any other game at all
With emulators finally allowed on iOS I'm so hyped to finally be able to give platinum a true go. I actually had it as a kid and got pretty far into it, but then some stuff came up and I ended up selling it. Now i FINALLY get to finish the game
The problem with new Pokémon is that they have forgotten the genre of their game. Pokémon is an ADVENTURE GAME at its core. Sword/Shield and to a somewhat lesser extent Scarlet/Violet all have limited pathing, less room for true exploration and yet also have incredible camera freedom. Pokémon is at its best when you don't know what's waiting just outside of vision. 3D age killed the sense of wonder and suspense that the GB/GBA/NDS era of Pokémon all embraced. I knew Pokémon was truly dead when in Sword/Shield you see major events happening and you get nudged into ignoring them and just doing gym leader challenges like a good little boy. I'm sorry? What happened to taking down criminal organizations and defeating gang admins and infiltrating bases? Now all I get is a very nice view of empty fields with a couple of Pikachus in them.
the gen 4 remakes made me really REALLY badly want them to not make gen 5 remakes. let em figure stuff out for like 10 years then take a crack at gen 5 please.
But they already had 10 years to figure stuff for the gen 4 remakes... maybe they actually need 20 years for gen 5 XD
@@EchonoxYT if I remember correctly the gen 4 remakes only had 2-3 years of devtime, and I think that's all the thought they were given. I wanna give em 10 years though just to get over this hurdle of making bad and buggy pokemon games, not specifically in gen 5 remake devtime.
The solution is to simply not let ILCA touch remakes ever again
I feel you man but at least the remake can never ruin the greatness of the originals. I honestly dont know they couldnt have just put the effort they put in ORAS. Tho I still prefer the originals ORAS was a decent remake.
@@abominablesnowman64 HGSS is still the peak of any videogame remake ever, not even just considering pokemon
Platinum is my second favourite pokemon game only behind BW2, but wow the soundtrack is just beautiful and the game is overall super fun.
I’ve gotta pick up BW2 some time, I always hear great things about it
@@EchonoxYT You definitely have to, believe me its even better than platinum.
@@EchonoxYT They're extremely expensive physically, but because the physical versions can link to bw for extra content, it is definitely worth it.
@@decarabiaumbra560just use an emulator lol
@@imab0t274 By that method, it's harder people to use the memory link and other features that are more accessible on physical DS cartridges. If you're able to go through that level of trouble to experience the majority of what the game has to offer, you might as well homebrew to get the rest of it.
I literally never comment but this was such a well made video I had to. Your sense of personality and humor are great and your timing with the music was phenomenal. Subbed and looking forward to more content like this. Stand proud, you're funny
It really was that good. Diamond and Pearl had one downside and that were the slow battle animations and health bar. Platinum fixed those issues and brought a lot of extra features to the table. Platinum is a great Pokemon game.
Yes. I still have my old save file from 2009 with all my hacked mons I got from the action replay device. So much memories.
This was a huge nostalgia trip, Pearl was my first ds game as a kid, never got round to platinum so may try and find a copy one day. Personal fav pokemon era for me was this tho. Dp, HgSs, Bw 1&2. Conquest, Mystery dungeon, Rangers. Bliss
Pearl was my first game too! I remember playing in the underground with friends and family in elementary school, and was incredibly excited to see what was in store for the remakes. Surely they would've built upon what already existed and add to it using the features of switch online, right...?
That aside, wonderful video as always. It's a good day when there's a new Echonox video
I thought you appeared in my recommended because I regularly watch Pokemon videos but after finishing the video I realized you had the same name as one of my favorite Geometry Dash creators back in the day... Nice job on the new content direction!
Nice work man! You've gotten really good at pacing, even in longer vids, and totally got me with some of those funny edits (prozd best ofc).
The music put me in my feels so much 😵💫 these were the 1st main series games I owned
Darkrai is my favorite pokemon from this game
Yes especially coming from Diamond and Pearl. Those games were unbearable with how slow the pacing was in terms of everything. Battles were like a chore because it was so slow every time. Glad Platinum fixed all those things and added even more story and content in it. It's what people remember from gen 4 the most.
The shivers I got when I heard the intro song 🥹
Platinum was my first ds pokemon game & is definitely top tier
the goosebumps i got from the nostalgia of each song is just AMAZING
I used to hate on gen 4 when I was little but it’s honestly so good. So much nostalgia.
Why is it so good? 😂😂😂😂
I started with Saphire and Emerald when I was a kid and got hyped when OR/AS came out just to realise they ignored all the good features of Emerald. It was still fun but I was disappointed. My second fav was obviously Platinum, there was so much to do and explore. So I got hyped again when Brilliant Diamond came out, but I was disappointed AGAIN when they dropped all the good features. It was fun nonetheless, it was my first game where I completed the Pokedex but it didnt live up to its former legacy.
I felt the exact same way with the gen 4 remakes. Such strange decisions were made to drop good features.
What emerald features did they ignore again?

Sidenote: i find the sleeping Turtwig to be cute
Great video, all these years of loving platinum and I never knew of the hidden cave to catch gible early wow thank you
Probably my best Platinum memory is the fact that I found a shiny Buizel in the grass only an hour into starting the game. I didn’t even know shinies existed and have never caught one since. It’s even funnier when you consider that this was the first mainline Pokemon game I ever owned. So I caught my first shiny at the very beginning of my Pokemon life and it never happened again 😂😂
Gen 4 in general was just so good in almost every way. The art style, the music, the new added Pokemon, the Sinnoh region in general, the post game all were really great. The story was something for everyone and not just kids with their "friendship is magic" bs that they do today. The honeytrees were crap espeacially if you were going after Munchlax and the slow moving Hp bars but those are just minor flaws imo since we had Hg/Ss (don't get me started on those, damn that's how remakes have to look like Gamefreak...) if we really wanted to have Munchlax ^^ I'm glad i still have my copy and my original DS and 2Ds to revisit it whenever i want :)
Btw fingers crossed that Kevin gets to see this ^^
Platinum is my all time favorite, followed by heart gold and soul silver, then black and white
i grew up on platinum and it was so beautiful, always loved it soo much, i love seeing play throughs of it :)
this video is so well made!! uu can tell how much effort was put into it
I love the use of the prozd audio with Cyrus, very fitting, and I wasn't expecting that many coincidences with Jaiden's video. Love the video
The games could have ended the series and I would have been happy. Good story, difficult battles, physical special split. The best part was how they gave multiple Pokémon from the previous 3 gens new evolutions. Felt like they really completed everything in this title.
If I recall correctly they were developing black&white from around 2008/2009 and that pretty much served as a then modern day reboot. (New dex, no old mons till postgame etc) so with that in mind in regards to your comment I feel like gen 4 truly was a very fitting end for the first 3 gens. Unova onwards to me always felt like a different era and that even reflects on the pikachu reset in the anime. It’s a shame tho coz bw2 follow up with gen 4 as the best games imo 😅

My copy of Pokémon platinum, pearl, and heart gold were all stolen along with my DS at an afterschool centre. I will never forget the memories I had with those games and I’m thinking of picking them up at a local second hand store. It’s a retro game goldmine 🎮
Yes, yes it was.
Will never forget being a little kid in elementary school and staying up late to play platinum, especially snowpoint city. Another memory was when all the kids would play Pokémon at swim meets. Good times.
Heck yes it was. Im replaying it right now and after owning and playing every other main Pokémon title ever, I can say Gen 4 (and 5) were incredible. Especially compared to modern games. It’s not that “we got older” it’s that the quality and difficulty of games has severely decreased in recent years
Ahh the memories 😌 really good video!
Yes it was. Nostalgic, great new story, good difficulty, great legendaries, great starters, great artstyle. For me it was the pinnacle of Pokémon games alongside HG & SS perfected the Gameboy advance formula
Started my pokemon dive on FireRed GBA, played that for a couple years then bought Ruby but for some reason I didn't like it or most of that gens pokemon so I dropped it. DS came out and parents bought me one. Played that Mario N64/DS game and Nintendogs. Then Diamond/Pearl released. I got Pearl and my buddy had Diamond. We played the absolute piss out of those games. The jump in the graphics and audio (IMO best music in any pokemon game) the new features/gimmicks/activities you can partake it were exciting to mess with. BIG feature was inserting your GBA game in the GBA slot on the DS and your D/P game in the DS cartridge slot and being able to transfer pokemon from one game to the other. Bringing back my old crew and my very first pokemon was truly a great experience, bringing them with to continue the journey vs leaving them behind in an old era. As I got older and new titles came out, I never bought Platinum and I pretty much left the Pokemon series behind as I didn't take to the new gens designs and mechanics. So P/D/P was the last gen for me. I may give them another shot though.

Short answer YES.
Long answer YEEEEEEEESSS.
Gen 4 had the best adult vibe game like it was actually a game for growing pokemon fans. The design of the chararcters were mature. The pokemon designs had a much cooler theme like each pokemon was based by cool adults that love pokemon. The story is so much darker and adult themed. If you notice I keep saying adult and thats just what made it great. That it felt like it was a pokemon game made for adult pokemon fans.
Replaying Platinum right now actually, funny timing with this video! The answer is yes of course, but I'll finish the video. Thanks for the commentary and showcase
