- If some games do not scrape correctly when importing them into LaunchBox, find out an easy method to correct them so they can find a match in the LaunchBox Games Database and download the correct metadata and media.

I went one step further and renamed the rom accordingly that way if I ever need to rebuild Launchbox from scratch it should automatically catch it properly upon scraping.
I was going to say the same. It's a better overall solution in the long term.
The best way forward. Get it right from the ground up.
But isn’t that how things are looked up originally, by the rom name? I mean some are weird and looking at it, you don’t know what game it is, but the database does… so if you change the rom name (thinking of mame), it won’t know what game it is initially…?
@@troymcdonald mame is fine with its naming conventions and will have no issues. However, for other platforms typos and incorrect naming of roms cause the database to either not catch it at all, or assign an incorrect database ID to it. If you are using the correct naming standards you're fine.
This was the process I followed:
1) import the roms
2) look for each that did not get found
3) do the meta lookup in this video to get the name, but dont save the changes
4) rename the rom
5) scan for added roms in the platform
In the case of ones I couldnt do the meta lookup for, I ended up having to search for it on the launchbox db website (like the video does as well)
The parentheses also allow translated and hacked games to still get scraped as the original which is great. I always put the name of the hack and version in parentheses.
Doing this on the order of thousands of games would take days, or even weeks to fix this one by one.
If Launchbox had some kind of smart search algorithm to scan through all files that do not currently have a match, and present a GUI that presented each games "closest match" that it thinks might be the closest to what the file name is currently set to, it would be a very fast way to go through each file and confirm a match or select a match from a few provided possible choices, and move from file to file quickly, possibly only taking a few seconds per match that is needed.
This would require launchbox game matching search/database to be more robust and smarter. It would have to be better about finding partial matches or finding matches from parts of a file name rather than the whole thing at once.
If you've put yourself into a position where you need LaunchBox to fix thousands of game matches, you probably should look inward and find out what's up with your files.
I've imported almost all platforms and hardly get any mismatches using no-intro/redump filename conventions.
Thanks. I appreciate this video, helps a lot.
Great video, thanks eta
Ok, but the mai and biggest Launchbox problem is that LB can't do this job massively! When I have hundreds of games with uncorrect name, modifying one by one is a real pain in the arse! Is there a way to solve this problem?
I thought this was gonna be some new feature that fixed the images for you LOL. You tricked me.
There's gotta be an Easy way to do this for Multiple Roms, I have tons of them, and this method is cool for a few games
If a lot of them are wrong, id re-download them from a correctly named set and usually they will be right
I have about 50 games in the commodore 64 section that according to the edit portion have a name in the launchbox database that have no box art or images. when I select to download it shows the box art but when I click ok and close out still no box art
This should really be automatic as long as the basic name has no typos, I have a ton of games that come up as Game Name v.1.0 etc and I see no reason that it shouldn't be able to scrape a result from that, Retroarch has no problems doing so
I like these kind of tutorials from you guys. Common issues that catch out newer users. Will you guys have a .dat file sync system in the future to rename and maintain?
How do you get the videos for each game, there’s the startup video for each platform then when you click on a platform the game list appears in wheel view and it shows yours games but there’s no video “trailer” of the game playing how do you fix this
For some reason, this method doesn't work with armored core: silent line. Armored core 3 imported just fine, but for some reason silent line won't show the images, even though they show up in the edit page and i downloaded them.
I mean i understand how there is no search regex for closest match function, but really Why isn't there even a bulk name function? I have to go into each game and name it..
how can i have all those game listed on the video without manually adding them one by one?
It looks like you forgot to add the link to the description. I just grabbed it from the video but I thought you might want to know.
Thanks! Added.
What about in the case of Double Dragon arcade version and the Neo Geo version in MAME? Both versions show up with shared media when initially scraped.
And even after correcting this in Edit - Meta Data/Media, re-scraping both games doesn't make a difference.
@@KatRollo Thanks Kat. That's my fallback plan. I was just wondering if there was a work around since the Neo Geo games are always part of Mame rom dumps. Plus we're talking about just one game with this issue. Though I've yet to try deleting all the related media and then adding both roms one at a time, with their correct names. Just thought about it just now.
Thanks!
@Kat Rollo heck I might just do that for Double Dragon lol
@@KatRollo thanks again. It's nice to know there are nice people out there willing to help 🥂
Which theme is that? I have an issue where the game video pops out in a separate player which is a nightmare. Is there a fix for that?
The Theme is called Big Details. I'd suggest making a post over on the community forums if you have a specific issue you'd like to solve with your setup.
How do you get the default box art for unscraped games?
Right click and edit a platform. Add an image on the right hand side and label it accordingly to one of the "Defaults"
we need to enchance graphics for classic ms-dos old games in win 10 64bits
I hope for a filter to show games without metadata, to make the process of hunting easier.
Audit window is a good place for this. You can sort by games missing a specific piece of metadata, or sort by games missing an association with a LaunchBox Games Database ID. If it's missing a Database ID, that means it couldn't find a match.
Can't believe you use Microsoft edge as a browser. 💀💀💀
