How EmuMovies Works in LaunchBox - Feature Specific LaunchBox Tutorial

- In today's tutorial I show you the basics of the EmuMovies service and how it can be utilized from within LaunchBox. EmuMovies is the perfect compliment to the LaunchBox Games Database as we do not provide video for the users. LaunchBox Premium and EmuMovies Premium work together to deliver you the best looking library of games you can possibly get.

If anyone is struggling, one thing that might help after you've got the videos ready is (if they aren't showing up in Launchbox despite having a video player and the videos properly set up) going to Tools in launchbox, then Options, then selecting "Game Details" under General, then making sure under "Show" that the checkbox for "Video" is checked.
I recently had to set up Launchbox and videos for a second time and this time around the "Video" part wasn't checked by default. If you need to find out how to properly set up the videos I'd suggest looking it up online on the forums maybe or finding a tutorial by this channel or ETA Prime that explain it (I know there is a good tutorial on it by one of them). Kind of would be long to explain everything in a comment.

Thanks just got lifetime supporter... Seen launchbox sometime back but what sold me was the rompacks ive been seeing online, And aswell as making a little pc thats like a multiplatform emulator and launchbox/bigbox looks great for this
Welp, wish I would have known this was not included with Launchbox premium before I signed up for it. Here was wondering why my Big Box did not look like and feel like the one in the video. Now I know.

I agree that it isn't talked about anywhere when signing up with launchbox that to have videos in the background I will need to sign up for a seperate service. It isn't a dealbreaker in any way. Just a bit of a shame. Since emuvideos is so incredibly expensive. I'll probably get emumovies subscription at some point, but I guess i'll stick with artwork and logo's for now.
You don't need an Emumovies premium account to add videos, you can download and add your own. The advantage of EM is that it's done automatically for you while scraping.
Gigaheart or, like he mentioned, you can buy 1 month and download as much as you can. How often are you adding new rom packs? If you have most of what you need now you should be all set with one big download session.
I think it is a bit of a rip off, first you have to pay for Big Box, and after that I discovered through this video You have also to pay for Emumovies, to use Big Box in it's full potential!, why not merge the two websites in one and ask one price....I hate these kind of things!
I think it's because they're not the same people who created them, and also emumovies works with other things similar to launchbox including hyperspin. So it wouldn't really make sense for them to choose one like Launchbox to merge with unless maybe Launchbox can buy out their business or something. Would probably make more sense for Launchbox to just make their own thing, but that comes at a cost to develop and there's already emumovies anyway so... Idk, maybe I'm wrong about it and emumovies is made by the same people, I haven't looked into it... If they're the same though, would you feel like it was less of a rip off if they merged the costs and you needed to pay extra for Big Box? Or is your real complaint that you just want it to be cheaper? Even if they're not the same, Big Box could just have their price lowered, though if people are willing to pay it then that doesn't seem smart...
Are there supposed to be videos in the right border of Launchbox? I came to see that and haven't for the entire video. Not a good upload at all.
Damn your personal Collection looks massive. Im trying to get that list. I can do everything else from there.
Thanks for clearing this up. I have been hesitant to go monthly on emu but I wasn't sure how the account would benefit since Launchbox didn't seem to have a cap when using emu. Went for the year anyways since I get more choice over what's imported.

Love the content guys. Quick question - if you retroactively pay to support EmuMovies after your library is already set up, can you bulk-update metadata for your entire library without editing each of the thousands of games one-by-one? Like, is there an option to add intro movies to all games in Big Box at the same time?

I manually downloaded a bunch of EmuMovies videos, but now I'm not sure how to get them to work with each game. I put each one in my Videos/Console folder and named it the same as each rom, but Launchbox won't recognize them at all. Is there a specific way to name them?

One question..... For games that don't have videos on EmuMovies or anywhere LaunchBox looks, is it as easy to add your own as..... downloading a trailer or game play footage from the internet and sticking it in that games video folder? I'm thinking mostly of my steam and windows PC games that never have videos after being imported to my library.
Thanks Nick! Yes, it's pretty easy to just manually drop the videos into the right folder. By default they go like this: LaunchBox\Videos\Platform Name\Game Name.mp4. You can use any video file extension for the most part. Or you can manually browse to a particular video file in the edit dialog for a game.
Yea, like Jason said, as long as the video name matches the name of the rom file or the name of the game in LaunchBox it will be found. You may need to restart LaunchBox for it to take effect too.

I will try this anyways, but i'm assuming I can manually place the videos into my launchbox videos folder for each platform if i download the standard quality videos from the website?
You can supply any video, music, images or manuals for anything you import if you want, this just makes it a lot easier. As long as you put the file in the right folder location, and it is named the same as the rom file or the name of the game inside of LAunchBox, refresh your cache or restart LB and it should show up.
You didn't even show how launchbox uses the video, which is the only thing I wanted to know. Thanks for showing me how to use the video sync, but WHAT DOES THAT DO?

Is there a way to download Emumovies for all games in a catagory without erasing and reinstalling all games from scratch?
Hmmmmm. EmuMovies doesn't seem to like Pokémon games. My guess is because of the accent mark. Is there a way to manually get the assets from EmuMovies if you are a lifetime supporter?
I dont have any of the video options, I am just a free member right now, do you have to pay for it to get the videos?
Might be a bit late, but you don't have to pay for videos. For free you can look on EmuMovies and download video snaps, though generally these snaps are 500MB at most and if there's a lot of videos then there will be a lot of "SNES snaps part 1", "SNES snaps part 2", etc. Because of this and the fact that you can only download 3 at a time (and the fact that you can only download like 2.5 GB in a day) the restrictions for free downloading make it a slow process. Although, you could always just pay some small amount (I think it's like 20$ Canadian) and be able to get all the videos you want unrestricted for I think like a month. Depends whether or not you're fine with it being slow or would rather pay to get it all immediately.
(You might be able to also make it faster for free if you use multiple EmuMovies accounts/multiple computers. I haven't tried this.) And of course, you can always pay a lot more to get as many downloads as you want from EmuMovies forever if you don't just want a month (which is probably more than enough time to get what you want, but if you ever want other things and it expires then you'd need to pay again).
I posted at EMU sync and I'll post it here also. After EMUSync downloads all that artwork, to what folders do I place it in so Launchbox sees it and can use it? EMUSycn only ask for the ROM folder to know what to download and then a download folder in which it creates a folder with all that artwork, Now what?
We recommend you use our built-in EmuMovies scraper solution as it is built right into LaunchBox, if you were to use a third party program like Emusync, you would need to manually move the files within our LaunchBox image file structure. By default, you would be looking at moving images into LaunchBox\Images\[platform]\[image type] depending on the platform and image type (eg. Box - Front) you are moving.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC Thanks, can't or could you include EMU sync in Launchbox so we can have the speedier transfers as a premium? Thanks again, you've given me more then EMU Sync has and they sell it. Imagine, EMU offers a supposedly faster and perhaps even more they say and no instruction on how to incorporate it it into Launchbox. I feel I was duped.

Do you guys have any tips/tools to rename files so they aren't being skipped by Launch box?
Agreed rom file names are such a pain, and it doesn't help that the search is so picky. I use a couple tools myself:
1. bulk rename utility ( www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php ) it is not pretty but it gets the job done.
2. easy duplicate finder (www.easyduplicatefinder.com/) keeps your collection clean.

I know this is a minor thing... But isn't the site EmuMovies pronounced "M - U - Movies" like for Emulator Movies? And not like "Ee- Moo - Movies".... Sorry for my OCD, lol...

How does emu movies sync work with Launchbox or does it just duplicate what Launchbox actually does ?
The sync utility has nothing to do with LaunchBox, and it just lets you download from their servers with their utility to where you want. LaunchBox will download what you need where, rename it and put it in the proper location, but this is only useful really for LaunchBox.

Hi Nyfie, you only need to be able to download stuff once from EmuMovies, and then you'll have it forever. So one month should be fine as long as you're able to download everything you need in that month. :)

Yes, you get to keep everything, but then you'll be limited on updating.
Also... anybody reading this who have sound for their videos, but only a black screen. Try setting "Window Media Player" to the default (it is out of the box) instead of "VLC (recommended)". That fixed it for me. Not sure why VLC hated me... the vid's played fine in VLC solo.

i have the latest beta but whenever i put in my emu movies credentials in the options menu it says I can't Login.

Just an FYI, I've also experienced this issue. It doesn't happen often, well not often enough for me to have raised a ticket at least.
I believe I may have went to EmuMovies and reset my password after closing down LaunchBox completely, then trying again. I've also managed to click 'Back' a couple of times and then trying the login & password again and getting it to work. Fortunately once it goes through once, it remembers and doesn't ask for your credentials again :)

Got banned trying to sign up to emumovies. I reentered my 2nd password wrong, then I went back made sure both passwords were the same and didnt realize the Capache question changed and that's all it took. Banned.

But I even went back to see if I missed it. This never says what Emumovies is! I have absolutely no new information except for I didn't expect to have to pay for it!
I still have to look up why people are willing to pay for videos for their emulators? I'm still not even sure if this is video previews of the games when you select them. Why would someone pay for that?
