  • Spoiler warning for The Winds of Winter!
    In the Winds of Winter, Jon Connington and Aegon son of Rhaegar (maybe) have done the impossible and taken the impregnable home of the Baratheons, Storm's End. George has left it ambiguous though how exactly Connington and the Golden Company accomplished this astounding feat. How they took a castle that has never fallen before. In this video, we'll figure out how the Golden Company did the impossible and took Storm's End.

    Would be really funny that the supposed son of Rhaegar and the bastard of Robert end up working together. There would be a symbolic of "national reconciliation" between the pro Robert and the pro Targaryen factions. That would surely also be beneficial to Aegon's cause

    Excellent theory. I’ve never heard the idea that Edric Storm could be used to take Storm’s End peacefully. I always just assumed that JonCon would pretend that the Golden Company was there to back Stanis, and then kill everyone once inside.

      Yeah, "peacefully", as both a carrot and a stick: "This is Edric Baratheon first-and-only son of Robert Baratheon, who you vowed to protect, yet gave to Stannis the lying pretender. With the help of our contractors, we saved Edric from the burning pyres that Stannis likes to build with his Red Witch. Open the gates for your Lord and he'll be safe with you, under our protection. If you don't believe us, send an envoy who knows him." After a while, if they don't do as ordered: "Or keep the gates closed indeed and he dies on the sword here and now, we won't have him burned by Stannis or tortured by Cersei. The choice is yours."

      Luis Caetano - the Edmure Tully situation is a bit different though. He actually is the already established Lord of Riverrun, so when he comes in and orders the garrison to surrender that is just a straight up situation of coercing the Lord, not of subterfuge or bringing in a bastard that is questionably legitimised or whatever.

  • @EdrickSnowbeard
    @EdrickSnowbeard Před 3 lety +145

    Seeing that Gendry took Edric’s place in the show, it makes even more sense that Edric will be legitimized by Aegon. Gendry gets legitimized by Daenerys in season 8. It’s possible that GRRM told D&D about how Aegon’s and Jon Connington’s story ended, regardless of the fact that they obviously cut them from the show. It seems more than likely that with Varys and Illyrio’s vast web of informers, along with Griff’s political savvy, Storm’s End will fall.
    Good catch there, sir.

    • @Carlos-ln8fd
      @Carlos-ln8fd Před 3 lety +40

      @@onikkobe why do you think he's fake? i've never understood that theory?
      i don't think he's fake because of how he fits in the Dorne storyline.
      Quentyn Martell was supposed to be the link between the Martells and the Targaryens but he died in book 5. Given how Aegon is the son of Elia Martell he's the perfect candidate to fulfill that role. Arianne's sample chapter from Winds basically confirms that the two storylines will merge which would be meaningless if he wasn't actually a Martell.
      Also at least according to Tyrion he's the real thing. Tyrion is supposed to be very smart and politically savvy. If he had such a dumb error of judgment it would be pretty poor writing on GRRM's part. Same for Jon Connington.
      Also the way he was introduced in Dance With Dragons makes me think that he's the real thing. He's introduced as some random guy and the big twist towards the end of the first half of the novel is that he's actually a prince.
      Wouldn't it be really dumb if George then had ANOTHER twist where it turns out that he's actually a fake?
      That would be really awful writing. You can't have a second twist that inmedietly contradicts the one that came before. That's not how GRRM writes stories.

    • @onikkobe
      @onikkobe Před 3 lety +5

      Carlos he could be aegon but you said it yourself to be introduced this late makes me wonder grrm wouldn’t introduce someone that important that late and not give hints from previous books and the fact that varys is involved makes me more suspicious dudes a master at lying and manipulating. He could be a blackfyre he has some of the targaryn features that’s what tyrion saw. But tyrion also loved a hoe lol and almost got killed by his own dad. but idk about aegon if he is that’s cool because the dragon must have 3 heads. I think aegon is more of a side character we don’t have any point of view chapters and Jon con even has one. And aegon is still hella green he hasn’t seen any real fighting he stayed on the boats when they came to the storm lands, compare him to a real targaryn like Jon snow who has fought wildings and whites been beyond the wall and back and is the lord commander. And makes you think why aegon wasn’t in the show 🤔 D&D talked to George throughout they know what his thinking and writing in the upcoming books

    • @Carlos-ln8fd
      @Carlos-ln8fd Před 3 lety +17

      @@onikkobe Yeah I get what you're saying. It can be seen as weird that GRRM would introduce him that late in the story but I saw an interview where he was talking about book 5 and he said that in the game of thrones you need to add twists and new players because otherwise it gets predictable.
      I think it makes sense because some characters only appeared later in the story and becane significant, like how Euron Greyjoy looks like he's going to be one of the main villains but he first appeared in book 4.
      Also it's true that we don't get a POV from him but many important characters don't have them. Like Stannis is super important but we see him through the eyes of Davos, Jon and Asha. Same with Aegon, at the start we see him through Tyrion and then through Jon Connington.
      I'm not saying he's going to become this huge main character but he could be a Robb Stark type guy that's influential in the story but who's never the main focus of it.

    • @shytguy
      @shytguy Před 3 lety +30

      Carlos it’s possible he is actually aegon. But George has laid out way too many blackfyre clues for him not to be a blackfyre. The fact that the golden company broke their contract which they have never done. By all accounts the golden company is basically the blackfyre army and has no love for the mainline Targaryens. They even say “some contracts are written in blood”. That would refer to fighting to put a descendant of bittersteel and daemon blackfyre on the throne. There’s just too many clues to ignore. Saying the male line has been extinguished. Illyros wife sera could be that female blackfyre who gave birth to aegon. He could even be a random commoner with silver hair faking being a blackfyre who is faking being a Targaryen. George also drops hints in stories told by Stannis in the winds of winter chapter and the story about the sign at the inn at the crossroads.

      I imagine Tommen will die and the bells will ring signaling his death while Fageon and Connington are invading. Leading to Connington doing something rash because of PTSD. Whatever he does may sway the small folk away from Faegon or sabotage by accident Faegon and his hold on kingslanding. Thinking about it, the bells may not happen with the death of the king. Since in Danys vision theres a cloth dragon among cheering smallfolk which I conclude means Faegon won over kingslanding. It's obvious the bells are something that's gonna happen but I'm curious exactly how. The show took that idea and desecrated it. Turned it into a joke since Dany has nothing to do with bells ringing. The bells were one of George's ideas. Its evident from the fact Connington has such an obsession with them from when he couldnt capture Robert. that the show took and just shoved in with Dany for no good reason other than they thought it would be "deep".

      loving Edric more than they love Stannis, and thinking of Stannis as a lost cause, throw him from the top of some tower, say that it was suicide, and then Elwood Meadows surrenders the castle once again. The castle the Golden Company took was the Rain House, which can be seen on this map, but its not the seat of House Rain (no such house,) or of House Reyne (extinct and was a house from the Westerlands, ruling from Castle Castamere.) It's the seat of House Wylde.
    And for context, the seat of House Morrigen is Crow's Nest, which can also be seen on this map in addition to Griffin's Roost. The seat of House Estermont is on the island of Greenstone, which can just barely be seen at the very bottom of this map on the right. It is rumored that the Golden Company have ALSO captured Castle Tarth on the Island of Tarth, and we know from one of the released WoW Arianne chapters that they control Mistwood (on the map,) seat of House Mertyns. Excellent theory and nice narration! I read the main story books of ASOIAF over the course of about 4 or 5 years and, in a way, I hate watching videos like these, because they really confront me with how many details I missed or forgot about haha. I should reread them all in succession some day.
    Closest thing I ever got to a theory about the books was when I was I think on the second or third book, and abruptly remembered Mirri Maz Duur's line "When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east" which I thought was something she said in reference to when Dany could have children again. So it dawned on me that, actually, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east literally every day, because that's how time zones work (if the sun is setting where you are on the globe, then it'll be rising somewhere further west of you in that same moment and vice versa) which I thought meant that Dany actually could still have children this whole time. Then I checked the chapter again and it turned out I misremembered the context of what Mirri said, fucking cry T_T

Euron Greyjoy. I think it is pretty clear, that Euron knows, that Victarion won't bring Daenerys to him. So does he want his brother to fail and die in the east? I really have no clues about this, but I guess on Eurons side there are two possibilities. Either it will be a bit like in the show and Eurons tries to earn favours with the Lannisters, sail to Storms End to capture it for the crown, or he will lay a trap for Daenerys on her way home (probably to attend the marriage proposal of her nephew). Isn't there a non loyal vassal of Stannis on an island who has a magic horn to control krakens? Maybe this horn gets to Storms End and Euron will lose control over his beasts and this will end the Storm?

    I like this idea. But the only issue I have with this is JonCon's HATRED for the Baratheons. He wants to end Robert's line. Installing one of Robert's bastards into a position of power is something he would never agree to. Aegon is coming into his own and is less obedient to JonCon now that he's no longer in hiding. But as much as this is something that would benefit his cause, it seems like he would share JonCon's aversion to raising up a kid who is the son of the man who killed his father which led to the murders of his mother and sister.

      Yeah that's a definite issue I overlooked.

      I mean it’s possible the plan is using him to take the castle then immediately executing him that sounds like a John con thing to do especially considering he’s already resigned himself to sacrificing all of his honor. And then aegon would probably not be OK with that and I don’t think he would actually have a problem forgiving the kid for the sins of his father and raising him.

    That pic of JonCon, the most used one...toy know the pic, very dark and macabre pic of an exhausted and weary looking JonCon, that pic looks like the dude that played Davey Jones and the baddass old vampire dude Viktor,that was one of the three leaders of Selene's Covent. Can't remember his name...he was also in Valkyrie with Tom Cruise.
    Yeah, he looks just like him in that pic.

      I'm not gonna lie, part two of Stannis having his men turn on him would be VERY satisfying.

    Been a while since I’ve read the books. But I keep seeing the same scenario.
    Something about raising stone dragons. My mind keeps telling me that Aegon will be the stone dragon because jon connington will inevitably infect him.
    As I mentioned, it’s been a while and I’m likely missing details.
