  • Hello everyone! Today I'm analyzing my favorite #asongoficeandfire POV character, Jon Connington. What do you think? Is there anything I missed? What do you think of #houseofthedragon so far? Be sure to leave a comment, as well as like the video and subscribe if you enjoy. More #asoiaf content is on the way!
    Thank you all for watching! This was a bit more laid back than my usual faire, but I had this thought and wanted to share this. I'll be back with more theories next week! Art in this video is by TheMico!

    As with many characters in ASOIAF, Jon Connington is ultimate driven by love...
    Or at least, love for a romanticized idea. Love for a distant memory. Love for a future than could have been.
    For sure, JonCon's love for Rhaegar feels more wholesome than Robert's infatuation with Lyanna or Littlefinger's obsession with Cat. But like those characters, he is a lonely man living in the past.

    • @QuinnTheGM

      I love those comparisons! It’s incredibly interesting to see how the expressions of this love or obsession tend to vary between each individual person.

      Robert Baratheon was condemned to death by the Mad King when he had done nothing he was forced to fight or die. He didn't just fight for Lyanna, he also fought for his survival as well as justice for his friends. Connington was on the wrong side of the war but refuses to acept the truth because of his deep love for Rhaegar so he demonizes Robert, the rebels and the people of the Stoney Sept.

      I think Jon Con parallels Jorah in that way. Jon Con loved Rhegar the same way Jorah loves Dany. Maybe Dany will die and Jorah will have to live the way Griff does, sad, homesick, and in love with a dead Targareon.

    If Jon Connington had actually burnt down an entire town to kill one man, even a would-be usurper, it probably would have had the effect of making Robert’s rebellion grow even larger and added another atrocity to the list of reasons to end the Targaryen dynasty.
    It makes sense for Connington to think as he does, but the North, Vale, Riverlands, and Stormlands would be locked into revolt, and without dragons as super weapons, the threat isn’t really reproducible in the same way.
    I know it’s fiction and what happens is what needs to happen, but greater cruelty isn’t really the savvy move and shouldn’t be confused as if it is.

    • @QuinnTheGM
      @QuinnTheGM  Před rokem +23

      You’re absolutely correct, as displayed by how quickly the Lannisters fell apart after Tywin’s demise. Connington idolizing that will likely play a key role in his inevitable downfall.

    • @stevepirie8130
      @stevepirie8130 Před rokem +3

      If he’d burned that town and killed Robert I doubt the Mad King would let Eddard live. Tully’s had to help their liege Lord so could be forgiven easily.
      The episode happened the way it did to help the whole story of course. Yes perhaps Tywin would have forgiven Ned but likely the king would have been furious he’d let him go thus sacking his Hand and demanding Ned’s death. The bloke was unhinged as it was which lead to all this kicking off.

    This was awesome. J-Conn also gets my vote as most likely to burn King's Landing. Due to Dean Charles Chapman's revelation that Tommen was originally set to die in battle and suicide was a VERY last minute change, I've moved away from the idea that the Sept gets blown in the books. However, given Jon's past connection to a Sept I can't rule its incineration out entirely.
    I wonder if he'll think Cersei is hiding in the Sept of Baelor during the sack of KL and order it burnt to atone for his failure to burn the Stoney Sept, except he'll be wrong and wind up killing loads of innocent people. So his "atonement" will be a worse failure than the first one ever was. To protect Jon, could team fAegon blame Cersei, painting it as a murder-suicide from a desperate woman after realizing she'd lost the battle? I actually thought that's how Cersei would die in the show after realizing she'd lost to Daenerys, but I digress. Even if the Cersei stuff doesn't happen, I still see a tragic end for J-Conn. Unfortunately. Awesome video as always!

    • @QuinnTheGM
      @QuinnTheGM  Před rokem +37

      That’s a great question! He thinks of Aegon as a son a few times, but it’s unclear if that’s just keeping up their Griff/Young Griff facade. Hopefully we’ll get more insight during his chapters in Winds!

      If you think about it- there’s a far darker and sinister echo of the Jon-f(Aegon) relationship in Littlefinger-Sansa (Alayne). They’re obviously different in extremely important ways- but these respective relationships might both involve the projection or transfer of love of the parent to their child. Both men are pretending to be related to the child of their respective great loves (uncle, father) to protect them & their eventual return to power. GRRM often likes to play with fulfillment, desire, and denial- he will both pay tribute to and dismantle romantic myths about heroes or knights but comparing Jon - Littlefinger actually shows how an individual’s relationship with the love of their past manifests in very different ideas and attitudes towards the offspring they constantly think of themselves in relation to.
      I am not making a prediction here, to be clear- I think it’s just another way GRRM uses both authentic and performed familial ties to explore different, individual kinds of value systems which people act upon.

      As for the others having greyscale, it’s a definite possibility! I think that Aegon is more likely to have it than Tyrion, as it would’ve likely manifested at some point during Tyrion’s Dance POV. Aegon is a bit of an unknown in a lot of regards, and having greyscale could very much add to that.

    Doesn’t this have pretty significant implications for the fAegon theory?
    If part of Jon Con’s motivation to put Young Griff on the throne is that he was in love with Rhaegar Targaryen and wants to do right by Rhaegar by putting his son on the throne… That means that at the very least Jon Con believes that Young Griff is the trueborn son of Rhaegar Targaryen. So Jon Con is either being deceived by someone who wants to put fAegon on the throne, or he knows that Young Griff is the trueborn son of Rhaegar Targaryen, making the fAegon theory false.

    @5:00 Nah bro, Tyrion figures out who Griff is at their first meeting. Near the end of their conversation, he talks about strange, possibly legendary creatures including (and he puts a lot of emphasis on this part) "winged lions," AKA griffins. Griff is no fool and immediately realizes that Tyrion is too smart for his own good and knows who he is, and he probably would have just killed Tyrion then out of the paranoia with which he lives his life, if it weren't for the fact that Tyrion has plot armor, so he settles for threatening Tyrion and leaves it at that

    How do you believe JonCon would react if he learned that Aegon was indeed a fake? Furthermore, if he discovered Jon Snow to be Rhaegar's bastard son, how would that change things? Do you believe JonCon's bond with Aegon would cause him to turn a blind eye and disbelieve that revelation, or would his "I will not fail the son" mantra make him pursue Jon Snow to help Rhaegar's child?
    Obviously, I think it's pretty unlikely Aegon's legitimacy gets revealed that definitively (I don't believe we'll get a straight answer, though perhaps elusions from Varys), and it's possible that by the time Jon Snow figures out his own parentage, JonCon is dead, but it's an interesting "What If" that I'm curious about your thoughts on.

    • @QuinnTheGM
      @QuinnTheGM  Před rokem +5

      Even if it were revealed to him, I don’t think JonCon would believe it. I imagine he’d assume it must be a lie, because he can’t have done all of this for nothing.

      If (as I believe) he is fake, I'd bet that Jon knows that. Even if he doesn't know, Jon is committed to Aegon's cause, so a betrayal is unlikely (nobody would leave alive FAegon's chief supporter if his cause fails).

  • @warlordofbritannia
    @warlordofbritannia Před rokem +1

    While we’re on a tangential topic, I don’t think (f)Aegon is ever going to be “revealed” to be a Blackfyre, just heavily implied at times. It’s not in George to just have a plot twist come up like that; plus, who/how would that come up? The only two people who presumably know (f)Aegon is a Blackfyre are the ones who will never tell.
    That being said, I strongly believe Jon Con will have a key role in Aegon’s defeat and death. He will fail the “son” just as he failed the father, but this time through causing the destruction of a city by causing a greyscale epidemic while Dany is besieging King’s Landing…I suppose that only differs in slight detail from your own predictions.

    • @redrenegade13
      @redrenegade13 Před 10 měsíci

      If GRRM ever manages to finish the series then ideally ALL these hanging plot threads will be wrapped up definitively, or leaving them unresolved will be thematic to the story.
      For example, If fAegon takes the throne and we never completely resolve whether he is a Targaryen a Blackfyre or something else entirely, It won't matter because ultimately "power resides where men believe it resides".
      But that's the plus side of a character like Bran. He can reveal things for the audience definitively because his point of view is not fixed to his current time.
      So I hope we find out, but if we don't I hope at least it is thematically satisfying, and not something like a character's hard-earned road to redemption being undone in a single episode. #neverstopshittingonseason8
