1.5 months with my new M2 Pro 14 (16/512). Got it as an addition to my Desktop (Ryzen 5850X, 64GB RAM, 3080TI). I am a developer: .NET API, Android, iOS, VueJS. My Ryzen seems to be still faster in some dev tasks, especially for Microsoft related technologies. 16GB for Mac seems to be not enough if you plan to run Android/iOS Emulators.
My plan is to switch to 32GB/1024 in 6m-12m, probably, it will be already an M3.

Yeah I just bought a 14" M1 Pro 10 Core 16GB/1TB in Silver for just a few USD over $1600 from best buy as an open box excellent condition. Random note, I had bought the Space Gray version and received the day before in the same condition looking 100% like new for $310 more after taxes on both so checking colors and all specs for the best deal for YOU is important. Maybe they'll drop the price on the space gray when they get mine back again tomorrow. I felt the money was worth it for the upgrades for my planned use, but the 8 core/512GB M1 was of course cheaper last I looked. Can't believe there's a video for this one out there, it really is a great find at the current moment! Just got the M1 Pro refurbished myself, about two weeks ago. Writing this on that one right now. It's been an outstanding upgrade from my late 2015 iMac, which I think was mainly starting to slow down either from the SATA drive, or GPU aging (random kernel crashes around the sleep-awake cycle).
If you're reading this when it's still available to get from the Apple refurbished site, I definitely recommend it if you are currently in need of an upgrade. I didn't realize how great the larger screen is compared to the 13" models either, a nice bonus over the M2 Air if you are debating between that one too. It's the same thing with the ports too, also a nice bonus. I also haven't heard the fans kick up yet, so haven't had to worry about that.

Realistically an M1 air with the nice new design upgrades to 1 tb probably would have gotten my buy too.

Last summer we needed another laptop, when the specs were released for the M2 Air we decided to spend a little more and get a 14" Pro base. In December another old laptop bit the dust so we bought another... a few weeks later the M2 came out. We evaluated the "estimated" increases and my son felt like having to reinstall everything would be more of a hassle and the M1 Pro base was more than fast enough for what he was doing (school work and light Final Cut at school). Another son will need one this summer but the case then may be a 15" MBA vs the 14" M2 Pro... we shall see. To me, and I have a 16" M1 Pro I got at release, the 14" Mx Base is the best bang for buck laptop. The screen alone to me is worth the price over the air and the size is perfect... big enough but not as large as the 16" which is more cumbersome than expected.

The only time they turn on is when I run a spectral de-noising pass on a 30 minute high-res field recording in Izotope RX which literally maxes out every single core. Even then, the fastest fan speed I've seen was 1700 RPM which is still inaudible with this MBP.

Apparently if you run the m2 chip in power saving mode, its performance is identical to the m1 pro 10 core, but in power saving mode lasts longer on battery and has less heat. Then when you need that 10-20% more cpu performance just turn power save mode off.
I personally went with m2 for power consumption advantages, going with the 10 core model. 6 efficiency cores 4 performance cores. My thought was this will increase battery the most, plus reduce heat which should prolong the lifespan of the computer. In music daw’s there are ways to reduce cpu usage, such as freeze tracks, bouncing to audio, and buffer size. So i went for the slightly slower multi core from m1 option with 20% efficiency gain route!

That alone made it worth the jump from the air. Then you factor the SSD and RAM jump baked into the price and it seems like a no brainer.
No, they aren’t the $599 Mac Mini or the $999 MacBook Air which make for good headlines but frankly you get a much more capable computer. Apples limited product stack definitely plays into this for sure. When was the last time you saw a video titled “Which HP/Lenovo/Dell laptop is the sweet spot in their lineup.”

There are a lot of concessions with the M2 MBA, and I needed 512GB storage and 16GB RAM. Well in my line is work it's about extra Screen numbers ( I work in theatre) for those who don't know The industry uses a software called Qlab. It only works on Mac, and yes there are non Mac versions, but they don't interface with the Lighting desks and sound desks so we are stuck with Qlab, it's not a bad software it's very good at what it does. But when your using it for multiple projection capability while the software can cope with multiple outputs it's down to the actual Mac outputs that leaves us all seething. A case in point at this moment we are running a show with three separate projectors. Now technically it can be run of the M1 macMini we have or the studio. But it can't. Se we are now running the old Trash Bin Mac Pro as the master and have the M1 Pro mini up in the lighting rig networked through a 1gb switch running one projector. And the Trash can firing the other two.

I bought an M2 Max a week after it launched. This is only my 3rd new MacBook purchase ever because the rest have lasted so long between purchases. I spec'd up this model and fully expect it to last as long or longer than my previous 2007 MacBook and 2012 MacBook Pro w/ retina. Given the average life, the price was easily justifiable and especially because of the deep ecosystem integration. It was worth the cost for what I do with it and has blown me away in every aspect of the hardware. The M1 Pro is also just as stunning, but being a 1st gen cpu, I was worried about the longevity as I adopted my 2007 MacBook just 2 years after the switch to Intel so I wanted to give them a generation to simmer on the switch to Arm.

That 700€ - or 500€ EDU - more for 8k HDMI (I only got two 27" 2k monitors and a 4k TV) which was therefore not appealing, same with the WiFi 6E which no device (including my AP/router) has. That means that the entire 512 GB hard drive will take like 2.5 minutes to read or write in its entirety. Well I was due for an Upgrade and I was ready to get the refurbished base 14" MBP once my exchange semester in Japan started. Yes it would have a Japanese keyboard (which would be quite cool in my opinion) but I would save 300€ (1400€ compared to 1700€).
But then I found this local listing for an M1 MBA with upgraded RAM for 600€ and I just had to get it! I'm currently typing this comment on it using it with a dongle connected to a monitor and mechanical keyboard and this is as good as it gets!
