      I think so too. Not too many people will need this, but those that do, it's an incredibly competitive system price wise.

    Thank you for reviewing this amazing fuji camera. First time ever I saw a clear image and the detail when you zoom in the picture. It’s insane result. Thank you again for spending your busy time to produce such an informative video.

    Sometimes I like to just stitch pictures together just to work with the big files in Lightroom and give the computer something heavy to work on and to see the big files 😅

    When recording the RAW footidge, did you use a fixed (LED) light or a flashlight? What about synchronisation? Using the electronic shutter ads extra complexity.

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety

      I used an Aperture 120D for the images that were lit. You can't use mechanical shutter because it will cause an element of shake I presume.

      Thx for your reply. I would try this GFX100 functionality using studio flashes. Can't install the specific Fuji stitching software on my old MacBook Pro for now. I'll have to wait for the new 14"/16" Apple MacBook Pro M1(x) later this year. Thx again for your vid!

    The tech would be amazing and crazy helpful with APSC sensors. I wonder if it could happen in the XT4?
    If not, surely it has to be in the XT5.
    This would be superb for product photography

    Really cool stuff :-) I ran into some issues with a very regular 'micro pattern overlay' on the parts being in focus on the created .DNG. Sturdy tripod, 10-sec. timer etc. all as it should be to avoid any kind of vibrations during shooting. Did you experience something like this yourself?

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety +1

      I've put samples on the accompany blog post (link in description). I found even movement of the ground when traffic went by my studio caused issues. It needs a very controlled environment for sure.

  • @1fasteye
    @1fasteye Před 3 lety

    Do you have the option of a 4 image stack? I use that feature more than the 16 images on my a7r4. It gives better resolution without a huge file, Lower noise, great color accuracy, and it's easy to correct issues.

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety

      I think you are thinking of the Focus Stacking option as opposed to Pixel Shift. But yes, you can do Focus Stacking with Fuji cameras as well as pixel shift.

    • @1fasteye
      @1fasteye Před 3 lety

      @@kevin_mullins No, the other cameras that pixel shift have an option for 4 frames. you don't increase the size of the image, but there is no demosaicking so the perceived sharpness is better. Each pixel gets R, B, G, G, information. this seems to give the equivalent of 1.3-1.5 better rez, better color, and lower noise. If I am working for an uber picky client, it allows the to zoom to 200%+ (this usually an architect or designer that fancy themselves as an expert on photography). And any artifacts are easily corrected.

  • @cosimocella127
    @cosimocella127 Před 3 lety

    I tested multishot/pixel shift/high-res mode (whatever they call it) with other cameras and what I got was motion blur (when the camera was fixed and the subject/object was moving) or I got the expected/usual multiple exposures effects whe the subject was static and the camera was moving.
    I got a combination of those when I was shooting handheld moving subjects/objects.
    None of those qualify as artifacts: those are all inevitable results/consequences of the shooting conditions.
    What it is not clear to me if there are actual "artifacts/defects" in the image due to the software or shutter mechanism while using the GFX 100 multi shot mode when the camera and the subject are not perfectly static.
    Can you clarify on that?

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety

      This really shouldn't be used if both camera and subject are not perfectly stable. Even heavy traffic outside could cause movement.

    • @cosimocella127
      @cosimocella127 Před 3 lety

      @@kevin_mullins I don't care about having a blurred photo! What I am concerned is the presence of weird artifacts due to how the software combines the 16 shots together.

    How it compares with the Hasselblad MS where the actual sensor shift 1 or 1/2 pixel in 4 or 6 exposures?

  • @salpatalano2306
    @salpatalano2306 Před 3 lety +1

    To really see the difference, a side by side comparison of non-pixel shift and pixel -shift image.....that’s the only way to see if the sharpness is better....

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety

      I'm kind of assuming that as this is only available on the GFX 100 and the update is free, those that want it will do that themselves. But the pixel alignment is the key thing to keep the colours true.

      @salpatalano2306 Před 3 lety

      @@kevin_mullins actually, it is available for the 50S and 50R as well....but I’m reading that that result is a big fail....I’ve downloaded but not uploaded firmware to my 100S or my 50S.....that’s why it would make sense to show a “regular” shot and one with pixel shift....the result should be like night and day...if not, then it’s a total fail.....

    It would have been nicer if you had the same image at 24mp, so people can really see they don't need a 100mp camera. I want one too, but reality check first, agree with your estimate, not for must.

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety +1

      Some people have been asking and waiting for this technology for a long time. Those people won't have a requirement for 24 mega pixels. These people will be doing archival, forensic, high end fine art perhaps. For most, of course, 400MP files are not needed, but that's why Fujifilm (I assume) have made this a totally free and optional piece of software.

    Nice trick but it has already been debunked by other channels with samples !!

    Thanks for sharing though !!!

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure it's been debunked as such. It is very difficult to get it right from my testing. One micro-movement of tripod will cause issues. That happened to me several times when a bus went by outside, and even if I moved when the shots were being fired.
      Additionally, some of the ones I've seen where the results were the poorest are using OIS lenses - which is really not going to work very well at all.
      It does work, but I think it might take more than one attempt to get it perfect. Pretty specialist stuff, though, and I imagine not many people will even try it.

    • @RS-Amsterdam
      @RS-Amsterdam Před 3 lety

      @@kevin_mullins Well they tried it accordingly the description given by Fuji and it didn't work (correctly) so they claimed it was firmware problem or another problem and said it was of very poor quality and lotsa other negative comments but since the proper way of operation has been discovered people see the positive side of it now.
      IMO Fuji should give a more detailled description how to use this feature properly .

This video was made to give people an idea of the free firmware update. It took two days for me to make it. Just so you know.
