    This is how you make a review of a camera! Gordon points out the features of the GFX, while not expressing personal opinion! He will tell you what he is impressed with, but he wont start and flame on the product he reviews.

      I like Gordon and his work but your definition of unbiased is, well, actually - biased. I, for one, don’t want to hear only about what the reviewer is impressed with - pointing out issues and reasonable flame are as necessary. That’s balanced.

    Thanks Gordon, another excellent review! I'll book mark this camera for my 2029 Ebay searches. No seriously though, even though this is such an impressive camera, breaking boundaries with MF, I feel like it's still kind of niche due to it's weight, size and cost, and FF seems like the best compromise. Side glance at the Sony A7R4 :D

    Fuji did a great job, even just for giving the niche muchmore competition. Even by using old sensors from sony while their not giving any other company better sensors as their own cameras.
    Would be interesting to know, what they could be able to create without the boundaries of sensor manufactors or market sales requierements.
    Like with X-Trans and IsoCell in combination.
    But it's definitly a joy to watch reviewers enjoying the ease of use and the results.
    And I hope they will be able to crop down all the joy and the passion for more details in new products as well(Like the already do).
    Thanks for the great review.

    The small HDMI may have been a result of the audio card for both headphone and microphone. The body is deceptive how much maybe inside from the outside. Also the headphone out may get hot, and HDMI is susceptible to thermals. I never trust a micro HDMI port either, but it is what it is. That hurts a bit as I look at this as maybe a cheap Cinema Camera option. Sure the stills are the reason why this camera is. Or is it? Eterna profile, medium format for 4K video, and most of the tools to get started. 10 grand is not so bad when you compare against a Canon C200,C300 and Sony FS etc. Also those wonderful Fujifilm lenses make this camera nice. But 3rd party support has me worried. The poor after thought battery grip. A missed opportunity there. But overall, what a camera. If you can't find one thing to like about this camera, you are a lost cause. I am also looking at what else this camera might bring to the next cameras for Fujifilm. The first is always exciting, but what will the XT-4 and so on get next time around. Another downer here is that this still is a niche camera, and if they sell a 1000 of these job well done. But overall as always with your review and Fujifilm, colour me impressed. The desire quotient just went up allot here.

    • @reludennis
      @reludennis Před 5 lety

      Battery grip is actually a cooling radiator...left bare Intentionally...it is winter half the year and you use gloves anyway...no problem there.
      In 5 years any pro photographer will use medium format...since most amateurs use full frame now.

    Ya have to embrace those wrinkles, Gordon!
    That aside, I think what's most noteworthy about this camera is that it's a larger-than-35mm format digital camera with a very high resolution that's also barely more difficult to use than a more "standard" mirrorless camera. Yes, it's expensive at $10k, but considering what it has (and its unashamedly small target market alongside its cheaper launch price than contemporaries), I think Fuji has got a bit of a winner here. It's not my personal cup of tea (the X-T3 performs just fine for me), but the geek in me can't help but be interested in what it brings to the table.

    I could not agree more with Gordon's observations about the poorly conceived and executed control dials. I have been a long time GFX and X series user in the mountains. I got rid of the 50s to upgrade to this with a 5-10 year plan in mind. Doing away with the X series dials is fine, however the controls feel pointlessly small and fallible. Fuji needed to fondle a Leica SL to realise they have let this £10,000 camera down. I will leave aside any attempt to apologise for the vertical non-grip. The joy stick is needlessly small. Fuji could have learnt from the big, rubberised knob on the Leica SL - the gold standard for easy to fondle joysticks in cold conditions in the mountains. Equally, compare the unmissable, precise dials on the front and rear of the SL to these mini dials. They really do feel minuscule and too small for a thumb. Really disappointed by the rank controls.
