- In this funny and educational pier fishing video, I head out to Huntington Beach Pier located in beautiful Orange County in Southern California. I am joined by my two best fishing friends, "Surgical Master" Chris Dettmering and Tyler "The Shark Sniper" May from LBSFGuides.com. We use casted fishing rigs and crab nets. We catch some cool fish species and we also catch a bunch of cool crabs! This video gives you a good idea of what you can expect if you go to the Huntington Beach to do some fishing or crab netting. Doubt the crabs you tossed back in the air survived that long drop , especially the heavier spider crabs. Use a small bucket and lower them down . Their internal organs are mushy , as you know , and doing a 60 foot belly-flop will certainly rearrange them on impact. Same with the baby sand dab. Please use a small bucket to put unwanted crabs or fish in. I duct tape a weight to the top of the bucket rim , so the center of gravity lowers bucket edge to tip over , once in the water.

Can you recommend a good fishing spot out here? I’m visiting Cali in Huntington park and brought some gear, I fished Redondo pier and went out on a boat both trips only small fish. Trying to find a good spot!

Have you tried crab fishing in Redondo Pier? I was quite successful 2 weeks ago with the net.
I caught a few rock crabs.
Also I heard putting some chicken 🍗 in the bait cage is very good. Thinking about trying that out next time. But if you know something I don’t, I’m up for some more tips.
Have you heard anything about seasoning your bait with garlic salt? I met a guy at the pier and he told me the fish go crazy for it. Just wanted to verify if you knew anything on that? I been seasoning my bait shrimp with it. I’m wondering if I’m just throwing away good garlic salt.
