- Cousin Jim explores the fishing off the Huntington Beach Pier Surf City has some fabulous fishing right next to the surf competition sometime it is a battle for the fishermen to avoid the surfers. Queenfish, Corvina, Halibut, and Thresher Shark are all commonly caught off this pier.

Just subscribed. Thanks for the live updates. Will be in SoCal in a few weeks and plan to do some pier fishing at Newport Pier, Huntington, and Balboa Pier. Mainly fishing for Mack, but the sardines look pretty good too.

It does not require heavy gear use natural bait small baits and hooks will catch more fish

Leave the drag very loose and said the rod on the ground some peers have a rod holder built-in. This one does not.
The salton sea hasn't had Cortina in over a decade
that is to bad I use to fish there when I was a kid
This sums up pier-fishing in SoCal. Barely any action and lots of people trying to get into other peoples businesses lol. Was excited to see some action but just like it is at Newport, little to no action until those Mexicans start snagging fish. They snag huge spot-fins, mullet, corbina, Sargos, bonito, halibut, white seabass, surf perch and occasionally bluefin tuna. These guys catch a large amount and end up selling the type they don’t like to eat. It’s so much action and excitement, really makes me want to do it as well but heard it was illegal and their leader seems to be complicated. Idk but it’s awesome and def makes up for the lack of activity when fishing bait. 🤷🏻🤷🏻
My old stomping grounds fished there all the way down to Balboa

The Salton Sea has no corbina….. it has corvina

Salton Sea corvina all died out years ago due to the rising salinity. Only thing left is the tilapia which will one day die out as well if the rising salinity continues and nothing will be left.
How bout to fish the piers. No one caught anything. So a good video tho.
Catching thresher shark?? It easy! Caught one in pismo beach pier.
If you have live bait then that really helps
@@cousinjim1 no I use head cause all shark do love the fish head. Live bait it pending? I live in south texas of corpus christi tx always catch monsters shark right off beach. It not same law between California and Texas game law. Ir tripping! Lol..lol...
When does Mackerel season start and end?
no season they are always around
@@cousinjim1 Weird, I went to Long Beach and there were over 30 people fishing and no one caught anything all day from 4am to 3pm. Three weeks before that everyone was getting Mackerel hits every 10-20 min and the week before that. Seems like when it gets cold they go deep and go away from the shore?
@@Sweetaccord they follow the bait so if the smelt are being caught the mackerel are close behind

Actually sabiki size 12 is equal to to US size 3 hook. I just bought some and ready to go fishing at HB pier this weekend 😀

Be careful walking to the pier. The locals do not pick up after their dogs so the poop is on the ground. Just be careful.
