    The full size gun is what I carry though. Sometimes, rarely, I'll pick the small one. But normally I dislike the compromise required to carry a micro 9. I'll admit it, I'm more confident and competent with a full size weapon. And they conceal well enough.

    Standing ovation for this man. Boss energy and champion of accountability. I was just training yesterday and I was going to do the exact thing he said - bring the CC but train the home defense gun... Rookie move. Took the CC and ran 50 rounds, nothing special, and I felt more confident with it. 10/10 video. God Bless you and yours.

    I agree with you completely. Some folks have the mindset that gun they are carrying has to look cool and have all these bells and whistles. What good is any of thought if you are not completely competent with the gun.

    I take your great advice to heart! I train way more with my carry pistols than I want to because I know they are the most likely to be used in a defensive situation. I would much rather shoot my rifles more because they are easier to be accurate with and have more potential as hunting tools.
    I don’t have a lot of time or money to spend on guns and ammo and gear, so I have to be REALLY disciplined to buy training ammo for my carry pistols and then actually spend the time practicing with them.
    I love that you are encouraging us to focus on doing the most good for ourselves. Thank you.

    @ruggedmeetsrefined5345 Před 2 lety +4

    My mindset when I go to the range is: f*ck what anyone else in here is currently doing, I’m here to get better.
    When I first started to shoot, if I was the only one at the range then someone showed up, I didn’t like it because now that person was gonna see me suck. Difference is I didn’t leave the range like most guys do.
    Most guys shoot a mag, see they are all over the place, pack up to leave, or they switch to full sized pistol they never carry, and neglect their carry piece because they don’t want to look bad.
    Luckily I got into pistol shooting in 2018, and got a good 12-15,000 rounds in before the pandemic. My goal was: shoot the center out of a target at 10-15 yds with my PPQ .45, which required more practice than shooting 9mm for me personally.
    Also, unless you are a proficient shot or are an admitted beginner who is very secure in who he is as a man, do NOT bring your girlfriend or wife to the range until you become proficient. You’re gonna suck, other guys will be better, you’re gonna get insecure, make it a bad experience for her, she will notice, and will not find it attractive. I’ve had guys aggressively cut me in line at the register when checking out because their girlfriend saw they sucked and I was proficient, so that was their way of showing me who the alpha was 😂😂😂.
    If you go to the range and suck: keep going back, f**k how people in other booths are shooting, focus on improving, and you will. Don’t deceive yourself and start looking for a $1,000+ pistol with a red dot, thinking that will solve the issue, it won’t because 99% of the time the issue is your MINDSET,

    Thanks for this one Mick! Great mix of the “Have a systematic approach to training” and “shoot what you carry”. Folks don’t realize that for the smaller pistol, the shooter’s grip is going to be a bit different than your Glock 19/17 size pistol, the recoil is a bit more snappy, and the stock trigger a bit heavier with longer travel to protect us from a negligent discharge. It’s most noticeable when it comes to shooting one-handed and holding a tight group under rapid fire… and there’s a high likelihood of needing those last two skills in a defensive encounter IRL.

    Every range trip, the first gun used is what I carried to the range. When I start the process of of live fire practice there is a tension in my body/mind that goes away, so I want to use that time with what I am carrying. At some ranges I go to I can draw and fire from concealment.

    In my urban concrete maze area I live in,carrying what is important and not is a must. I think the vernacular way to many instructors talk about ccw type carrying goes soooo far people get lost. Point your making is very simplistic. Carry what you use and learn to use it very well. Spare magazine is a must,I don't care what others speak about spare mags etc..I carry one extra. Light source is a must. And something I think most don't do. Buy what ever carry ammo you carry now,and go to a range that will allow you to shoot such ammo, and get those rounds down range every few range trips to understand the difference in recoil management. Keep pushing brother the knowledge of the craft.

    I am doing some training locally. I carry a Glock 42. I know it's a tiny gun, with tiny bullets, but it's what I have and what I shoot well, and I have only ever had one malfunction with it, so it's what I carry so I am training with it. It has been eye opening. I just finished my second class and have 2 more to go. After my first class I finally got my grip sorted out and I can put the shots on dead center without pulling them low right (I am a lefty). After my second class last night, I know I have to work on my off hand shooting. Every time I come out of class, I have a pile of stuff I learned that I need to practice, before the next class. I am not sure where I go next, but I am going to continue training after I finish these classes.

    I agree. I appreciate "systems" of weapons, also. For instance, choose your CCW and train with it, train with its big brother. Use one for concealed, one for your nightstand, one for open carry, whatever. My point is that the manual of arms, familiarity, and skills transfer over.

       Thanks. I referred to all the videos, and in particular the ones where you promote alt-right, Trumpter political candidates. I always appreciate new ideas and respect most people's views on firearms, carry, etc. What I don't appreciate is the growing number of guntubers who think promoting those Trump-loving candidates is their obligation and will increase their subscriber numbers. This has zero to do with conservative, liberal or anything in the middle. What it has to do with is siding with a draft-dodging liar and racist traitor who sides with Putin and White Supremacists and actively encouraged domestic terrorism. It takes a special kind of hypocrite to lecture people on law and order and then make excuses for criminal behavior from someone who hugs a flag and gives lip service to the Second. It takes a bigger hypocrite to lecture people on the Constitution and then make excuses for crapping on everything the Constitution stands for. The once-proud 2A community is being overrun by those who demand we hate everyone we disagree with because the mostly spineless Republican party puts protecting Trump and his stooges over the USA. Lastly, you once made positive comments about Mrgunsnshill. That POS, while defending domestic terrorism, actually stated "most democrats think the election was stolen, and that is the truth." Honesty and integrity matter!!! Making excuses for liars and shills does not help protect our rights, and worse. is simply wrong and unpatriotic. Just because Mrshill loves guns does not mean he needs to be promoted. He's a lying, alt-right for-profit patriot without a shred of honor or integrity. Sorry for the extended rant, but over the past few years, I've become more and more ashamed of a community I respected for decades. Happy to discuss further, unless you're good with a clever, dismissive, passive-aggressive remark about my "issues", which is often the go-to reply for the narrow-minded hypocrites.

      Me too. I have watched several videos and don't disagree with anything he has said. Just comes at you with one speed - like a bettering ram, which doesn't wear well over the long term. As a class instructor, his style would really grab you, so no disrespect intended. He's just not for me.
