Using LIQUID MASK to Paint My RC Bodies!

  • One of my favorite parts of the RC hobby is painting my own bodies! RC paint is unique because it's done on the inside of the Lexan body which acts like a protective clear coat, and unlike cars and helmets that can be masked with tape or vinyl, the preferred masking method in RC painting is called Liquid Mask. This type of paint mask is a rubber like substance you apply and let dry before cutting your design into the mask using an x-acto knife! The takes time, patience and practice but the end results can be amazing!
    I finish all my bodies with logos from my friends at Boom RC, you can find them here: boomrc.net

    Nice tut. I have always struggled with paint. I usually will just go with a solid color now to save time. I do want to try the liquid mask though.

      It's tedious but definitely the best way to get clean paint jobs in my opinion

    Just painted a mini shell, masking tape failed and edges were ruined, can live with it, but certainly going to try liquid mask next time 😊

      Game changer! Tape is more of a pain in the ass than anything... some guys can do great stuff with it but liquid mask works so well I'd never try tape again. Just takes practice cutting and peeling it. Take your time cutting and peeling it between layers

    Is there a specific brand of liquid mask you prefer? This looks a lot easier then tapping and cutting haha

      Bitty design is my new go to! Used to be stuff by dively but that was discontinued

    Which brand of airbrush paint do you use? I've tried the Proline but it's not strong at all and will scratch away with almost no effort. I was able to lightly cover the cured Proline paint with some Tamiya PS to give it a protective shell (the Tamiya paint is much stronger)...that works, but I sure wish I could find some airbrush paint that cures as strong as the Tamiya PS. Thanks!

      Used most of them. Used to use faskolor but I've also used createx and spaztix. Currently have proline stuff but haven't done a ton of painting with it... all of them are easy to scratch off. I used to back them with a thin bed liner. And that worked good but I did wrinkle a couple jobs. Trucks tend to get destroyed and scratch way easier than any buggy because buggy bodies are protected better. The short course has no chance, I know it's gonna get destroyed so I plan on replacing it.

    did i miss the part where you did the pin striping/outlines?

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  Před 7 měsíci

      No I probably breezed through it too quickly. I cut all the lines before painting and the thin dark stripes are one of the first things I'll paint. Dark colors first so you don't have dark backing light colors making shadows

    How much for a tekno ebuggy eb48 2.1 body custom 2 color white and lime green?

      I don't have the time Jeremy, only paint for myself these days. Unfortunately can't work for 5-8 bucks an hour. Lots of good painters that do it affordably. We have a new guy here, JB Paints. Bradley Fine Line is a good one, MH Designs did the green and orange one. Gotta find one you trust with good turn around times

      @joshuajkoplin definitely the most rewarding part when you pull the window masks and the outer film. Next paint video I do I'll have to add the viola in there for sure

    Looks awesome! I’ve been trying so hard to do paint jobs like this for so long & it always comes out horrible lol. I’m think an air brush might help a lot? The track is awesome as well! We are working on rebuilding my/our track as we speak! Great vid! Definitely gonna try & see if this helps.👍🏼

      Awesome! Ya painting is an art... liquid mask and an airbrush are game changers. Just take your time cutting the mask. Use your phones light as a backlight to do the second line so the distance stays equal.
