  • Day 6, northern Wind River Range backpacking high route: We continue hiking the insanely beautiful route along the upper Green River towards Knapsack Col this morning after leaving camp at Peak Lake. Stroud Glaicer at the base of Knapsack Col is basically the source for the Green River. A steep boulder field climb up to Knapsack Col and an even steeper descent, with lots of sliding. Then we descend below what's left of Twins Glacier, down the valley and into the iconic Titcomb Basin. We part ways with Perry as Katie and I head up Indian Basin to camp for the night.

This is an impressive Winds series. I've hiked into or travelled to the headwaters of the Conejos, Rio Grande, Eagle and Arkansas Rivers in Colorado. Mostly fly fishing and a bit of backpacking/fly fishing. I've also spent 10 days in August '21 in the GRLs area of the Winds but didn't get up to the Green River headwaters. At 70, I doubt I'll make it that far into the Winds when I do return. Thanks for taking me there. Enjoying this series of vids.

This contains some of the best footage I've seen of Knapsack Col's east side. Another awesome day-

Sweet! This is the area I'm most familiar with. Been there a few times and other than skeeters, you can do no wrong in the winds. Great job and thx for the effort!!

Knapsack Col and the headwaters of the Green: one of my favorite places on the planet (with a backpack on). Your vids that I have seen in the Winds most often have good weather. What is your secret?
