  • Carbon fiber has many benefits in the world of motorsports and powersports. Things made of this space age material are pounds lighter and typically stronger-all things considered. The downside? Durability (in some cases) and expense (all cases!)
BMW has a carbon wheel option which shaves many pounds from the front and rear of the bike, which translates into faster acceleration, higher speeds, better handling... which all adds up to lower lap times.
However when there is a problem with the wheel, it will (not can) be expensive to fix.
This rim after a couple of years began to leak air through cracks that developed around the valve stem and spread outward. Leaks of this nature don't usually happen on metal rims, carbon fiber however...

The leak was coming from the cracks around the valve stem, visible by the bubbles forming beside the valve stem. Cracks on both sides of the valve. The only fix is replacement. We are not capable of repairing carbon fiber layers.

They improved the carbon rims on the 23/24 . Those years we known to crack. I believe BMW was replacing under warranty.
